Milky Posted 2 June 2007 Posted 2 June 2007 This gives me an idea... link Sweden were awarded a 3-0 win over Denmark after their Euro 2008 Group F qualifier was marred by a supporter attacking the referee. Denmark produced a brilliant comeback as they came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3, but things turned ugly in the closing stages when a supporter ran onto the pitch to attack German referee Herbert Fandel after he sent-off Danish defender Christian Poulsen. Poulsen was shown the red card for punching striker Markus Rosenberg in the stomach. A spectator ran onto the pitch toward the referee but was intercepted by Danish players. However the game was suspended for as the referee and the linesman walked off the pitch following the attack. As a result of the attack Sweden were awarded a 3-0 win by Uefa and Denmark are sure to face heavy sanctions for the disturbance. Earlier in the game Sweden raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Johan Elmander (7, 26) and Petter Hansson. However, Denmark fought back to draw level with goals from Daniel Agger (34), Jon Dahl Tomasson (62) and Leon Andreasen (75), but it all mattered for little as the actions from the home fan saw the win awarded to Sweden. The result sees Sweden move to the top of Group F ahead of Northern Ireland.
dandannieldanok Posted 2 June 2007 Posted 2 June 2007 I think the punch by Poulsen is worse than the fan thing personally. It is acts like that from the players that help inspire the fans do commit such crimes.
Vacamion Posted 3 June 2007 Posted 3 June 2007 What was going through the fans mind ? Did he think that running on and going for the ref was going to help the situation ? He's a poor/inexperienced "football fan" if he has never had the end of a game (be it through a ref's decision or the stupidity of one of your own players) feel like a kick in the stones.
Jay Posted 3 June 2007 Posted 3 June 2007 incident certainly a sending off but was it a penalty? there was no infringement on any player anywhere near the ball doesn't excuse either of them though
Vacamion Posted 3 June 2007 Posted 3 June 2007 Thanks for posting the link to the vid. A little dink in the guts and he goes down like he has been tasered and stays down for ages ? Wuss. And that ref seemed a bit TOO keen to get off. Other games have had morons running on to the pitch and they carried on playing once the security people cart the offender off.
shen Posted 3 June 2007 Posted 3 June 2007 incidentcertainly a sending off but was it a penalty? there was no infringement on any player anywhere near the ball doesn't excuse either of them though I was wondering the same thing. I've never seen a penalty given in such a situation. A free kick to the Swedes at the time the whistle was blown is surely what's conventional, isn't it? To say it was a match that ended shamefully is an understatement. Imagine Leicester being 0-3 down against Forest after 25 minutes and pulling the game back with one of the most inspired and brilliant comebacks in their history, and then something like that happens to spoil it for everyone... I lost quite a bit of my love for the sport because of yesterday, and I believe many others did too. And that's sad.
Sparky Posted 3 June 2007 Posted 3 June 2007 think a penalty is the correct decision , remember savage winning 1 for us at home to ipswich that saw thier keeper sent off and us having a peno even thou the ball was well down field at the time .
City Fan Posted 3 June 2007 Posted 3 June 2007 Surely if that was a penalty, refs should give penalties when goalkeepers waste time before taking a goal kick, earning a yellow card. Same thing really.

davieG Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 A good referee would have risen above the incident and completed the game, surely walking off benefited no one except some misplaced glory/publicity for the referee! As for it being a penalty I would say that if the ball was in play any incident anywhere on the pitch is considered foul play whether the ball was involved or not. Other wise late tackles would be excluded as by definition the ball has already moved on. As for the specific incident, it's a bit difficult to judge but one could assume that it was retaliatory and what led to it was ignored/not seen by the linesman or the referee, as is often the case - all speculation mind.
