Fez of Mahrez Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 People are bitching on but it's not even as if Jarvis, Billy Sharp, Eastwood, McLeod, Saganowski, Hendrie, Kishishev, Holland, Commons, Todorov, Robbie bloody Fowler or even Jason bloody Koumas have gone anywhere else yet.
davieG Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Why is it always Stoke or Burnley or some other fairly cr@p mid table side who pick up these players Surely we should be able to sell ourselves better than that with our new onwer, manager, stadium and ambition. Very frustrating The fact that we are not even a fairly crap mid table side might have something to do with it!
The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 People are bitching on but it's not even as if Jarvis, Billy Sharp, Eastwood, McLeod, Saganowski, Hendrie, Kishishev, Holland, Commons, Todorov, Robbie bloody Fowler or even Jason bloody Koumas have gone anywhere else yet. From Jarvis' point of view.... why hurry? Like you say - many players WILL move and are yet to do so. Jarvis' agent is obviously very busy at the moment. Gillingham have made him a revised offer to stay now that Spiller has left for Milwall. Whether or not we will get Jarvis, I don't know. I've just been told by a couple of people with links with Gillingham that Stoke have made the most meaningful and positive approach. My sources don't get told everything, but bits and pieces get picked up. Charlton were interested for a long time, as were Forest. We've been there or thereabouts since, well, around Christmas time so this isn't new. Looks like it will end up going to tribunal though as Gillingham want him to stay and I can't see a) that happening b) anyone matching their (probable) valuation. So maybe that's why everyone is being a bit cagey. Like Fez says though, it could go another few weeks before it's sorted. I doubt Jarvis would just sign for the first club that comes along, he's perfectly aware he has a number of suitors.
Lord Nibblington Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 So more weeks of hysterical overreaction to stories linking him with other clubs? Brilliant.
The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 so do you know if we have been in contact at all or just rumours? In contact with whom? Gillingham? Jarvis? His agent? Hehe. The answer would be quite simply that both Gillingham and the player concerned are aware of interest from Leicester City. As for whether there has been any official approach... I don't know. What is the situation when the player is coming out of contract? Can we just approach the agent? If the agent is doing his job properly (from his client's point of view - not Gillingham's) he'll have been in touch anyway!
Leonisco Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 b) anyone matching their (probable) valuation. Any idea how much they're actually asking?
The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Any idea how much they're actually asking? Well, anyone who approaches is going to be told he's not for sale I believe. But they'd want £1million plus. Imagine tribunal might be around the £500,000 mark.

The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 One thing to consider... and I'm not speculating either way, but it's probably a material fact in whether we'd make an approach at all. Does Martin Allen want him? Much of the interest was pre-Allen and it's not to say he wouldn't want him in the side... but if he does have a budget to work with, he'll have to prioritise. I'd love to see us sign Jarvis. But if we're going to play narrow hoofball, there is zero point.

Kent Fox Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 I'm sure we can stretch to that. Depends on how much he wants in wages, I suppose. I doubt he'll be on a lot right now coz Scally is soooo tight. I agree with TPH - Gills will want £1M+. Having watched him I think he's worth that..

But if we're going to play narrow hoofball, there is zero point. Well if he's signed a player like Carl Cort I'm assuming he'll want someone to get down the wing and stick it on his head every now and again. That is, unless the point of signing him was to win flicks for someone like Hume to feed off, which I sincerely hope isn't the case.

Imagine tribunal might be around the £500,000 mark. Surely with him being out of contract Gills will have to take whatever the tribunal says regardless of how they'd value him if he was under contract? I wouldn't be quick to rule out Allen liking Jarvis. Allen played with wingers like Dyer and McGovern last year and Jay Tabb and Paul Brooker at Brentford before that. We need similar wingers to provide a service for Cort.
Ric Flair Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 The fact that we are not even a fairly crap mid table side might have something to do with it! Yes, but to be fair we now have a new owner and a new manager and therefore we are a far more attractive proposition than in previous seasons. But we still can't compete with the likes of West Brom, Sheff United, Wolves, etc. But the likes of Stoke and Burnley shouldn't be any competition for us in terms of signing players. Pompey were hardly a quality club to play for before Mandaric and Redknapp pitched up, but that didn't stop them getting in some quality players when they got their act together.

Should be sign elsewhere and it go to tribunal, sure, Gills would have to accept the ruling. However, they have gone out on a bit of a limb by all accounts to keep him there.
The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Another season of hoofball it is, then. Can't be too sure, but I think so, mate. Direct football is best in this division anyway...

The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 i very much doubt he would stay though really surely he wants to better himself and earn more money i know i would I think he'll leave. Gillingham have lost Danny Spiller already. Don't think they will do very well next season (I know it's early days though).
Simon Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 I think he'll leave.Gillingham have lost Danny Spiller already. Don't think they will do very well next season (I know it's early days though). I think they'll do OK, even if they do lose Jarvis, they have a bit to spend. They've signed Simon King from Barnet for £200K which isn't small change. He was playing well below the level of his potential at Barnet- can't understand why there weren't one or two Championship clubs looking at him.
