The results will turn around I bet you

Means we are playing better football and things are improving

A play-off place was the minimum expectation when he was appointed

That was you, who siad that. CL certainly did not. If MA had left earlier we would have had more chance of getting back up.

Mr Levein's stewardship cannot be considered as 'smashing'

No not smashing. No one has a quick cure to the mess that MA left behind.

But CL is possitive

Has a vision of cities future.

He has motivated the players

Knows our weaknesses

Has remedied some of our weaknesses.

The jury is still out on him

We all know that any manager can screw up, and maybe CL will. and yes the jury is out, But it will always be out. but so far he has improved the situation at city and 98% of the fans would give him their vote of confidence.

Telling it like it is

You should start to tell it like it is

Fact 1) He has reduced the wage bill.

Fact 2) Dumped, lazy crap old timers

Fact 3) The three best players at city have been bought in by him

Fact 4) Excelent financial accumen. ie the best players cost next to nothing

Fact 5) Instilling some self respect and passion back into the players

Fact 6) He aims to introducing new youngsters that have passion

Fact 7) He is gradually building and developing a team

I have no doubt that one day in the future you will dump on our sleeping bags (My sleeping bag would get very upset if you dumped on her)

But at least we are supporting CL, and just like MA, we will continue to support him until he deserves otherwise. You should try it, you might see the good he has done.

ALASS some one talking sense here.

I totally agree with what you are saying STEP!!

Many have good points but you have hit my nerve exactly.

Smashing is better than average?... we make our own luck and coontribute to our own downfalls...

Have we lost in 2005............... rest my case

Am I missing something here? Please explain to me exactly how Mr Levein is doing a 'smashing job.' You see, you contradict yourself when you say: '...the results will turn around I bet you.'

This means that results, currently, are unsatisfactory (some might say 'most' unsatisfactory when you consider that a play-off place was the minimum expectation when he was appointed).

As professional football is, by and large, a results driven business Mr Levein's stewardship cannot be considered as 'smashing' (unless you are using this adjective in its most literal sense - as some might in this context).

You could say something like 'the jury is still out on him.' And that's about the best spin you could put on things. On the other hand there are many more whose assessment of Levein might be more like 'telling it like it is.'

As we are about to witness our third (false) dawn of our lacklustre season I will resist the temptation to shit on your sleeping bag until the gloom descends again.

By whom, pray enlighten us on this somewhat presumptuous generalisation. No one in my circle of friends, acquaintances or work colleagues had any thoughts of ‘playoffs’ when Craig Levein was appointed; our best hope was that he could shift some of the aged and dross, which he has had some limited success with by getting rid of Benjamin, Pressman, Keown and Elliott. Beyond that our hopes were limited to, at worse avoiding relegation at best mid table obscurity.

You write these statements of yours as if they are facts. Why?

Hoof for one on here (several others on talking testicles) and I've only checked one thread.

Thanks for proving my point that

I like your interpretation of getting rid of the 'old and the dross', davieg. Adams had Benjamin out on loan since the start of last season. We got Pressman as temporary cover for Walker until something better (Taylor) became available. Everyone creamed themselves when Keown decided to join LCFC. And Elliott retired.

As for 'avoiding relegation' you really have a nerve. That only loomed large as a possibility in the lead up to the Gillingham home match a couple of weeks back.

And if mid table obscuirty was the best that could have been hoped for at the start of Levein's tenure, then why was there a campaign to get rid of Adams in the first place (because that's were we were then - difference being we were improving at the time that Adams decided to sling his hook)?

That's why Levein is getting away with murder now - because he's dragged expectations down with him

That many Chandler, thanks I think you’ve proved my point that your comments are full presumptuous generalisations assumed by you to be fact.

Very defensive here Chandler, did I say that the dross was all to do with Adams err NO I just said that CL had managed to get rid of some of it.

As for Pressman, he had a contract so was not temporary cover he was THE cover and as far as I’m aware Mas had no plans to get another ‘better’ keeper in, he’d spent his money and made his choices.

You use yet another generalisation with “Everyone creamed themselves when Keown decided to join LCFC”, I for one didn’t and I know of many others who saw him as yet another aged mercenary hence my posting of this on another site before this one existed so definitely before July 17th

Our OAPs

Matt Elliot Born 18 November 1968 - Age 35 going 36

Dion Dublin Born 22 April 1969 - Age 35

Ian Walker Born 31 October - 1971 - Age 32 going 33

Lilian Nalis Born 29 September 1971 - Age 32 going on 33

Jason Wilcox Born 15 July 1971 – Age 33

Danny Tiatto Born 22 May 1973 - Age 31

Nikos Dabizas Born 3 August 1973 - Age 30 going on 31

Keith Gillespie Born 18 February 1975 - Age 29 going on useless

James Scowcroft Born 15 November 1975 - Age 28 going on 29

Chris Makin Born 8 May 1973 – Age 31

Yes, you are right Elliott did retire, but having read ME’s comments on this it was CL who helped significantly in persuading him to take that option.

As for 'avoiding relegation' you really have a nerve. That only loomed large as a possibility in the lead up to the Gillingham home match a couple of weeks back.

Relegation - Have you been asleep for most of this season, many people were seriously concerned about relegation as early as the Brighton home game in fact quite a few (now known as the Coral’s Team), including me placed a free £10 bet on LCFC’s relegation at 125 to 1 around that time. I have to add I’m not a betting type of person but that reflects my feelings about the future of the club at that time and I’ve seen a few relegations in my time believe me.

And if mid table obscuirty was the best that could have been hoped for at the start of Levein's tenure, then why was there a campaign to get rid of Adams in the first place (because that's were we were then - difference being we were improving at the time that Adams decided to sling his hook)?

The reason is stated above, just in case you can’t see what’s in front of you a LOT, not all but a LOT of fans could only see relegation with MAs in charge and were quite happy to settle for mid table obscurity, and that still remains my realistic thought for this season.

Yes one or two results were improving but the performances were still dire, unattractive, lacking passion and commitment.

That's why Levein is getting away with murder now - because he's dragged expectations down with him.

Please explain the ‘murder’ that CL is getting away with? Or is this another case of Chandler say’s so, so therefore it must be true

You continually accuse people of avoiding the points you make, but they are often with out foundation and are invariably a generalisation assumed by you to be a fact.

davieg,

I could be here till dawn driving my coach and horses up and down 'Irrational Row' ie your absurd, ill considered rant above. But I will just give fellow posters a peculiar taste of your own, inimitable gobbeldegook.

You say that 'many people' were fearing LCFC's relegation at the time of the Brighton game. And that armed with your 'free' £10 you made a wager. So, as you had nothing to lose you went for outrageous odds.

Now you may have reported incorrectly or my eyes might be deceiving me but you state you took odds of 125/1 on Leicester's relegation? What does that tell everyone (including the numerically challenged like yourself) on this board?

It tells us all that this little gee gee was a rank outsider. It means that at the time in question very few punters found this little filly attractive. Logic therefore dictates that the prospect of relegation was not taken very seriously in Leicester at that time.

In strict logical terms your statement contains two irreconcileable propositions: mass sentiment for a certain outcome (ie relegation) v low perceived probability (ie high bookmaker odds).

This false syllogism is referred to as an RAA meaning Reductio Ad Absurdum (Reduced To Absurdity).

Hate to rub it in and all that...but there are one or two other howlers in there. I'll leave them to the (very) few other lovers of truth on this board.

Hey Chandler,

Tell us what these howlers are, if you don't share how will we learn?

I feel happier with Levine in charge as I can see that he's trying to build something for the future and not just a quick fix.

I don't think (considering the start to the season) that anyone expects to get in the playoffs aslong as we don't go down I'll be happy enough. Next season though playoffs should be what we are looking for if not automatic promotion.

Remember that MA had a wgole summer to get to know his squad where as CL didn't have very long at all...have a little patience and seee what happens.

I'm inclined to agree with Davieg for the most part. The only bit I disagree with is the bit about relegation (I took the thought seriously but did not actually FEAR we would be relegated- although I'm sure that would have come after a few more losses). I had a lot of time for Micky Adams, but he frustrated me with the way the team played, when we should have been doing better with the players we had. Last season we had the players available to avoid relegation, but draws cost. This season we should have really been battling out near the play-off places but again draws cost. After the Preston game I predicted that Adams would go; I didnt want him to particularly, as I'm not a fan of sacking managers- I like to give them time.

Levein (an excellent choice for manager IMO) has come in and done a good job of steadying the ship. I wasnt really expecting much more. Anyone who was is just plain stupid. Hes done a lot more in his time here then I thought he would have done; we're finally playing the ball on the deck, he's already reduced the average age of the team and bought in some potentially good signings.

I do think the jury is still out on him, but I am willing to give him the time he needs to build a decent team for the future. If we spend another year, or even two in this division and I am seeing progress then I will tolerate this, as the turnover of managers in our recent past is really a bit too much.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if you were somekind of politician or of the like. You don't bother answering davieg's other points in his post. You see '1 or 2 howlers in there' while I see quite a few valid points, so why don't you try and answer those for a change, ey Chandler? Or are you just being your usual evasive self? ;)

It should have been left to smoking only allowed in the concourses, then maybe all these people wouldn't be "moaning" about it so much. But no, the club had to alter things.

64382

That was AWFUL! You had to walk through a wall of smoke at half time just to get down the stairs to the loo. Its best left as it is as long as, like I said, the Stewards actually enforce it.

64417

its a joke really, they stand on the balcony videoing people who might ''''riot'''' but yet just walk by people smoking

standing next to a smoker for 15 minutes will cause more bad health to me than a '''''holligan''''''

You're absolutely right Chandler.

Looking back, it is absolutely rediculous and a total disgrace that we forced Micky out of the club - regardless of whether or not Levein will be a success.

I'm sure most people on this forum are dissapointed in our position and deteriation since we got rid.

Posted

I am aswel, we are alot better now Micky has gone.

Did we ever go 7 unbeaten with Micky?

Have we threw any leads away in the last 10 minutes with Levein?

We are playing just as shit, and we are in a worst position in the table.

Obviously you didnt go Reading away.

I suggest going to some matches and then coming back with a more constructive attitude. :)

Why the feck are some people moaning about the current situation at the club, for God's sake we are unbeaten this year, through to the 5th Round of the FA Cup and CL has already started to try and freshen the squad up. All 3 of his permanent signings look quality players, he has got us playing with more energy and commitment.

Also what I do like about CL is that even when we don't play well, we still look difficult to beat and as highlighted in the current unbeaten run we still pick up results - The sign of a good team if I am not mistaken.

CL has done a decent job so far in stabilising the club and making subtle changes, yes there have been some below par performances and results but there has also been some very good performances, overall we are making progress and that progress will be truly measured next season when CL will have been able to build a team more in his own style and also had a full pre season to work with them.

Chandler your blind loyalty to MA is now becoming very tiresome, but based on your current rationale we should be grateful MA has left, he has lost every game so far at COV oh and he still conceding late goals....nice to see he has learnt from previous mistakes. Now surely even Micky Adams should expect more time from the COV fans so why can't you realise that Rome wasnt built in a day and CL needs time and our backing.

Couldn't agree more about CL... as for MA I wouldn't quite have put it in your terms... lol I wish him well.
