Phube Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 But Japan (always a good example) has some of the worst violence in manga/anime for children, but have far less violent crimes. People always forget this when arguing for things to be banned. To paraphrase Scream: "Violent media doesn't create psychopaths, it just makes them more imaginative!"

Manga/anime isn't targeted at children though is it. As far as I'm aware it's an adult market - it certainly is over here.

Daggers Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 This was a happy normal family guy so it could happen to anyone in accumilated circumstances. Ken - it was a film. It was just a film.

They don't do age restriction in Japan (apart from hentai!!) it's all aimed at everyone. In fact I have the Japanese version of DBZ and it was soo badly cut for the US/UK market it loses 5 mins per episode!!

Phube Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 And you understand it? Or does it have subtitles Japanese with English subs!! Qualtiy stuff Although Goku sounds like a girl!!
coale39 Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 I dont know how messed up this game is but their are really fu**ed up films out there with an 18 cert and IMO films are worse then games at influencing people. I agree with Manwell, its just inresponsible parenting if younger people watch it.

I agree with Manwell, its just inresponsible parenting if younger people watch it. Children just don't even come into it as far as I'm concearned. IMO complaining about game developers making violent computer games and children playing them is like whinging about Brewers and cigeratte makers because some daft tart down the road gave her son of ten years a bottle of jack daniels and pack of bensons for his birthday. The Cert is there for a reason as it is with everything that has age restricions on it.

It's far easier to blame the big bad nasty games companies than it is to actual hold parents responsible. So there.

So there. True that, you've got me. I actually think it should be banned as well, (but as said, not for reasons relating to kids as that is silly) at least on the Wii, due to the fact of the upped interactivity level.

Wait a mo', how is it worse on the Wii. Now you're just being Wii-ist!!! I won't stand for it!

coale39 Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 ..but the fat population would lose some weight murdering their mates..every cloud... Less Fatys - +2 More Wiis sold - -2 On balance -
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 Less Fatys - +2More Wiis sold - -2 On balance - If you take into consideration the Saturday night theory 'any holes a goal' that many adopt, myself included , the construct of 'Wii's Sold' is irrelevant. I'd prefer to keep the streets slim aiigh!, that way my fridge doesn't get raided the morning after
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 June 2007 Author Posted 20 June 2007 Wait a mo', how is it worse on the Wii. Now you're just being Wii-ist!!! I won't stand for it! Because Im guessing your actually performing the act of butchering someone with your little wii wand or whatever it is. Which is a bit sick really isn't. Since you bought it up I reckon Hostel II should be banned as well, horrific.

Yet that's still on sale, not even certificated!!
coale39 Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 Im not saying it should be released but i think butchering someone with a little wii wand would be funny! Im i a nutter?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 I think it's a bit of a shame personally. People who like these sort of games tend to be absolute morons so there's a danger we might have to put up with them in the outside world instead of locked up in their bedrooms grunting monosyllabically at their equally gormless mates.
Lord Nibblington Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 Have you ever read American Psycho. It's more sick than any game/film I've ever seen. Yet that's still on sale, not even certificated!! Yes, but books have a completely different standard, for no obvious reason. I would have thought that was obvious!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 American Psycho is a different kettle of fish, as anyone who has read it and has a brain would know. Apologies if this looks like a dig Phube but you can't actually think American Psycho and Manhunt 2 are comparable.
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 June 2007 Author Posted 20 June 2007 Have you ever read American Psycho. It's more sick than any game/film I've ever seen. Yet that's still on sale, not even certificated!! That really is a poor point. Books are totally different, you process the information yourself, the images aren't forced upon you or portrayed in a way your mind finds too unacceptable or disturbing to handle properly.
IDEA OR IKEA Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 That really is a poor point.Books are totally different, you process the information yourself, the images aren't forced upon you or portrayed in a way your mind finds too unacceptable or disturbing to handle properly. But surely if the images are forced then they can only be so bad (although probabilly a bit too far here), its the minds of 'nut-jobs' that will process anything from a book, film, game, tv, someone bumping into them in the street and re-inact it. End of the day:- Media (with 18 rating, no matter how bad - Hostal 2!!!!) ----> Average Person = Shocked, but not going on killing spree. Media (with 18 rating, no matter how bad - Hostal 2!!!!) ----> 'Mentally unstable' = Killing Spree. Why should we be censored from things, you can handle it then buy it if not don't. Pointless bringing up kids getting hold of it cause thats something that just can't be controlled - fags, booze etc.
