But surely if the images are forced then they can only be so bad (although probabilly a bit too far here), its the minds of 'nut-jobs' that will process anything from a book, film, game, tv, someone bumping into them in the street and re-inact it.

End of the day:-

Media (with 18 rating, no matter how bad - Hostal 2!!!!) ----> Average Person = Shocked, but not going on killing spree.

Media (with 18 rating, no matter how bad - Hostal 2!!!!) ----> 'Mentally unstable' = Killing Spree.

Why should we be censored from things, you can handle it then buy it if not don't. Pointless bringing up kids getting hold of it cause thats something that just can't be controlled - fags, booze etc.

As I've already stated I agree with that.

And good points.

But I believe things like films should have a point, or at least some sort of story, or even have something about them which isn't just absloutle mindless violence, the first one was bad enough but this was sounds off the scale. It's just pointless, torture porn, passed of as based on real life despite the fact they have no evidence of it in order to disurb people even more, that will just leave the average person with a sick feeling in their stomach and have adverse effects on some individuals.

Also it all very well and good saying "if you can't handle it don'y buy it" not everyone is aware of their limits, and the last film seriously pushed back the liomits compared to what has been seen before.

Is Hostel 2 a lot worse than its prequel?

I thought the first one was tame relative to the fuss that was made. First half of film - mild sex and awful acting, second half of film - mild torture and awful acting. Tarantino should be ashamed to have "presented" it.

The Saw Trilogy. Now that is sick. But at the same time thoroughly enjoyable.

Given the interactive nature of games I would agree with the banning of Manhunt 2 but films should be left alone.

Apparently, I've herd the details but don't want to repeat it as I might spoil if for some of the people on here who wished to be "shocked by it"

Where did you see hostel in the cinema or on DVD? The DVD version is a bit sick, bit where he cuts her optical cord out

Saw it on DVD.

To be honest it should be banned for being shit more than for any violence.

Well that is sort of the point I was trying to get across. :D

Agreed, i think modern culture (certainly media industry) thinks that it has to push boundries and people as far as they can. At times i think its a lack of creative ideas, when you don't have any more ideas, just shock.

More to the point, American Psycho is actually an intelligent commentary on modern society not just a brainless computer game!!

Yes the part where he burns the woman's genitals with acid to insert a large, glass tube within which he puts starving rats, before chainsawing her in half (all while she's alive). Is soo indicative of modern life!!!

And he get's away with it.

You stick to your Wii, we'll read the books.

I don't think he was talking about that part in paticular Phube.

Well obviously I've read the book, or I wouldn't know that bit. Infact I found the book quite dull. I mean there are only so many pages one can read about bloody buisness cards on eggshell blue paper!!

Oh was he talking about the part where he nail guns the prostitute against his door and pops her eyes with a lighter (very much Hostel!!)? Or the bit where he blinds the begger with a knife and kicks his dig to death? Or perhaps the bit where he axes a work collegue to death whilst listening to Phil Collin's Genisis!?

Totally ridiculous. Complete cave-in to media pressure.

I love how the mother of the dead kid is in the press saying how great this is when she let her kid play the first one! (the murderer never touched a copy!).

I doubt I'd play the game myself, but if it's within the law and you're an adult, and you want to inflict it on yourself, fine.

Beneath all this sarcasm is a clear misundertstanding of what the book is about.

Which it isn't, as they've banned it

1) You're the one mentioning all this on a website clearly read by kids.

2) There's a difference when shock factor is backed up by actually having something to say about the image-obsessed, material world we live in, which you can see he clearly does if you've read the book.

3) He only puts one rat up there.

I think it was more to do with the life style he led and the culture he lived in and his reasons for doing what he did more than actual murder parts. Which you know fully well, your just being a bit stupid aren't you.

You're right, but I meant more that it doesn't depict, say, child porn, or anything like that.

He didn't have any reasons, that's why it's called "psycho". He leads a perfectly normal, if very shallow, 80's yuppy lifestyle. But in his personal life he has psychotic tendancies. Nothing to do with his work life!

Right so child porn which carries a sentance of about 12 years isn't ok.

But torturing, killing and eviscerating innocent people which carries life is fine.

Games and videos do not lead to or accentuate psychotic disorders.

I agree with IoI, there is an absence of imagination but this decline has been going on ever since the rule book got torn up in the 50's and someone let those pesky teenagers out to drink milk and eat ice cream. Western Society has been wildly trying to find the boundaries like a naughty kid on Supernanny and to date it's been as rude and self-indulgent as it wants to be. The "problem" of the game is purely symptomatic of a society that spurned traditional values.

It's all the fault of you damn young people.

Bah.

Humbug.

Now where's m'pipe and slippers? It's time for m'nap.

...oh, and American Psycho was a stunning tome about 80's consumerism. The only decent thing to fall from the pen of Easton-Ellis, everything else was ****ing painful (to read) garbage.

I played the first Manhunt fairly recently and i have'nt gone and violently murdered anybody (well, that i'm going to admit to anyway). :P

I doubt i'd get it anyway, but it should be available to say over 18's that want it.

Why should stupid irresponsible parents spoil it for everybody else?
