chili_con_carne Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I've got an interview for a summer job in Sainsbury's tomorrow, anyone know what sort of question's they will ask? Also what clothes should I wear (as it's only for Sainsbury's and im only 16 I don't want to wear a shirt and tie or anything) Cheers if anyone has any idea
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I imagine turning up for the interview is pretty much good enough. If you've managed to fill out the application form, you're probably over-qualified anyway.
JoeyB Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Shirt, trousers, shoes first impressions count. you look like a scruffy twat less likely to get the job also arrive about 5-10 mins before your interview so they know your reliable. good firm handshake is good. Do a bit of reading up about sainsburys too. btw where abouts is the sainsburys your trying to get your job ?
Trumpet Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 WAHEY!! Is it the Fosse Park one? Cos i work there y'know. They'll ask customer related questions, i.e - What do you do if a customer needs a trolly etc. etc. They'll help you through it. Also it might not be the greatest job, but wear a shirt trousers etc. n really go for it if you want it!
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Do a bit of reading up about sainsburys too. Is there anyone who may be a bit confused as to what it is they do for a business. Better off reading about food poisoning and fecal coliform transmission

The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 YOU GOT MORE RABBIT THAN SAINSBURYS! Shout that at random. It will show you have an appreciation of ancient, cockney singsters (singsters! hahahahaha).
sdb Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 just say you're willing to work lots and are free for a decent period of time. i went for an interview there 2 summers ago but despite having an IQ of about triple every other applicant there (this sounds really big headed!) i didn't get a job as i was back off to uni in a month or so. if they do what they did with me, they'll describe to evryone a person (e.g. Sue - a vegetarian, having her boyfriend round etc) and you have to choose a suitable meal from a list they give you. seriously, some kids proposed roast chicken or lasagne etc - it was hilariously bad! ... yet they got jobs and i didn't!

I've got College in September but i'll keep that quiet then. cheers. How do you no what other people said in the interview then, is it like a group thing?

How do you no what other people said in the interview then, is it like a group thing? No its not. If they take you on after the summer, they could have you part time, in fact will mostl ikely ask cos theyll want loads of new staff in September. I work part time to fit in with college, but at the minute im doing overtime to them ax as i dont have college
Wils Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 The job is as good as yours, aslong as you dont fart or say something stupid.

The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 For what it's worth - I'd advise against getting a job and instead find a way of getting some benefits.
Phube Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 For what it's worth - I'd advise against getting a job and instead find a way of getting some benefits. Easy; become a single, disabled, assylum seeking, lesbian mum of 5. You'll never have to work again!
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Easy; become a single, disabled, assylum seeking, lesbian mum of 5. You'll never have to work again! There must be an easier way. I might spend this afternoon at work looking in to this....
Head Honcho Posted 3 July 2007 Posted 3 July 2007 Just be confident in everything you say and be positive! Dress smart and don't be shy. There's nothing worse than interviewing someone who's shy(remember you will be working with the general public). A good handshake and eye contact will also go a long way. .................... and whether you believe it or not. In retail the customer is always king.

chili_con_carne Posted 3 July 2007 Author Posted 3 July 2007 Didn't go too well, I can't believe i answered the last question wrong. I gave the right answer originally and then i changed it go a wrong answer It was something like - If a customer asks you to reccommend an exotic fruit for her drink or something what do you do? - Direct her to the exotic fruit section - Or Direct her to the exotic fruit section and let her taste some of the fruits so she can make a decision. I said the first one first then changed it to the second one, now im thinking about it you can't actually let a customer try food can you?

Yeah, I think that's wrong but it's only one question. If you have done ok in the rest of the process, you could still get the job. If you don't, you have gained some vital experience for your next interview so don't stress about it. Interviews are a game - you just need to learn how to play it.

Head of Human Resources for The Stasi by the sounds of it! Exotic Fruits What happened to the good old Apple?
