Kent Fox Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 You not taking the test then lookydo? If I am the only one who takes it, I must win, right? Right? PS: Did I get them all right? Pleeeeaaaaasssse put me out of my misery - I have zero patience.
lookwhaticando Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 There are a lot of topics in there.Had to re-read that a few times and now I think I understand. As for new posters getting abused, that will only happen when they write a load of bull! I was a new poster not so long ago and have yet to be abused (cue abuse). And most of what I post is bull. Disguised as something else. A lot of the bull in question is merely a duplicated thread, or breaking a cardinal (perhaps unwritten) rule. These are mistakes made by a good number of first time posters, and they're the mistakes that get the natives wound up the most. Indeed, there's a few users in particular that feel the need to bang their head every time such a topic is posted... I think without the head banging icon, their post count would be about 25% lower... Additionally, it's sometimes timing and circumstance that leads to the abuse of a new poster. We had trouble with a one man army of Coventry fans late last week, which upset the FT massiv'. Some poor unfortunate sod joined the forum about the same time, and made a new thread... unfortunately, people thought it was a wind up and proceeded to hurl some abuse in his direction. Granted it wasn't the most scintillating topic you've ever come across, but it was tame and harmless and didn't break any rules, but just by posting around the same time as a wind-up merchant, he got some stick. As for the rest of the bull... they're obviously unaware (being new) that this kind of thing isn't approved of (rumours originating from "my dog's lover's uncle..." for example). Here, if they can't post new topics about it, they can't be abused as badly... and they might learn not to post that kind of rubbish before they have new topic posting rights. Perhaps. But the most frequent posting mistakes stem from duplication, in my opinion, and that would be easily solved if the users had to find a topic before posting in it... force of habit might make them continue to look for an existing topic even when they have topic rights themselves... perhaps.
lookwhaticando Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 You not taking the test then lookydo? I took "the test" last week. Apparently, I'm clean.
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Author Posted 2 July 2007 Oh, and it wasn't the topic starter (Daggers) that raised the second point - but a third user who has not yet seen this topic. I'm the topic starter, the twisted topic starter
lookwhaticando Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I'm the topic starter, the twisted topic starter I am the eggman... and the Walrus. Get me.

Yeah, How can I forget that moron. The problem was, on that particularly bad day, was there were a lot of new poster / idiots coming in with utter garbage. Surely if any amount of common sense was prevalent among them, they would have refrained from posting anything on that most fractious of days. So they only have themselves to blame, don't they? And I think that a simple test is a good idea. AoWW can sort it out and there must be a way of determining whether new joiners are intelligent enough to come in.

Surely if any amount of common sense was prevalent among them, they would have refrained from posting anything on that most fractious of days. So they only have themselves to blame, don't they? I think it's a bit harsh to blame the new (genuine) poster for walking in at the wrong time. If they had only just found FT (rather than being a 'long time reader, first time poster' type) how would they know that the events of that day were somehow abnormal? If you've seen FT a lot, but never posted, you'd know how harmonious this place is (ha ha!) and would perhaps twig that now wasn't a good time... but even that is demanding a bit too much knowledge from someone who can't actually be that active (since they don't post, I mean). I'm inclined to give that particular poster a chance - he was massively unfortunate to wander into the situation that he did, and that's my view. It was rotten luck and he didn't deserve the stick he got, he was wrongly associated with the other posters of the day (the actual trouble making poster(s)).

We'll have to agree to disagree then because if someone posts in a thread that is obviously fractious, it matters not if he was a first time poster and/or viewer or not. He/she was stupid to come in and get involved. Even I stayed out of it although it was difficult. He may have been wrongly associated, but a certain level of blame has to pass in his direction for being a numpty and coming in at that time. Don't want to argue. Want food.

Don't want to argue. Want food. Ah - now I see why you're under the impression the guy is somehow at fault. I fear we've been talking about a different user. The user I was talking about posted a new topic of his own - he went nowhere near the troubled topics of the day. This is why I'm inclined to give him a shout - he may or may not have seen that something wasn't right... since he didn't post in one of "those" topics at all, I'm inclined to believe that he perhaps did not read them at all. He certainly didn't wade into 'the' discussion (read: slag fest) with his wellies on and his keyboard handy. He wasn't associated by being seen in a bad topic... he was associated by posting a topic around the same time as some other clown. make lunch, not war
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Conflict with these idiots is necessary, otherwise I'd have to turn on people I like. And I don't want to do that.
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Author Posted 2 July 2007 Live and let live. There are better sayings to live by...
Steven Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 There are better sayings to live by... I hope they never go to bed with each other.
AoWW Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Tease! who, moi? PS: Did I get them all right? Pleeeeaaaaasssse put me out of my misery - I have zero patience. 100% by my reckoning. The question is, are you gifted or talented?... I reserve judgment! I took "the test" last week.Apparently, I'm clean. Phew, it did occur to me that perhaps I should have checked that very fact earlier in our, erm, acquaintance. And I think that a simple test is a good idea. AoWW can sort it out and there must be a way of determining whether new joiners are intelligent enough to come in. *Delusions of grandeur* Cheers, anyway! make lunch, not war I can't cook .. starting wars is easy by comparison!
Daggers Posted 3 July 2007 Author Posted 3 July 2007 I can't cook .. starting wars is easy by comparison! ...and yet again you sound like my wife. Maybe it's a womanly trait?
Kent Fox Posted 3 July 2007 Posted 3 July 2007 100% by my reckoning. The question is, are you gifted or talented?... I reserve judgment! I am gifted. And talented. I am so many things. All rolled into one big cuddly package.
AoWW Posted 3 July 2007 Posted 3 July 2007 ...and yet again you sound like my wife. (I'm hoping that's a compliment... not to sure, to be honest.) bloody hell... you're not?........no, you can't be - can you? I am gifted. And talented. I am so many things. All rolled into one big cuddly package. Modesty isn't one of them, I guess?
Kent Fox Posted 3 July 2007 Posted 3 July 2007 Modesty isn't one of them, I guess? I am completely free from any form of vanity. And I love my self for that. Excuse me whilst I go and check my appearance.... ...again.
AoWW Posted 3 July 2007 Posted 3 July 2007 And I love my self for that.Excuse me whilst I go and check my appearance.... ...again. You're so vain You probably think this song is about you You're so vain I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't you? sorry, I'll... erm, get me coat....

Don't you? sorry, I'll... erm, get me coat.... Wasn't it? Oh no! Well at least I still have ONJ singing "you're the one I want" to me. I think. So what's my prize for getting 100% in the test???
AoWW Posted 3 July 2007 Posted 3 July 2007 So what's my prize for getting 100% in the test??? tsk, you want a prize as well as the kudos?... there's no pleasing some people. Sadly, I hadn't banked on anyone getting top marks - so i hadn't 'actually' sorted a prize. What did you have in mind?
