West Ham have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, BBC Sport understands.

The Hammers will unveil the 30-year-old Sweden international at a press conference at 1400 BST.

Ljungberg, who was also a target for Fiorentina, joined the Gunners in a £3m deal from Halmstads in 1998 and scored 72 goals in 325 games for the club.

He had two years left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger decided to sell him.

Ljungberg, who was Arsenal's longest serving player, struggled with injury last season and played just 26 games.

Good signing for the hammers.

I think Arsenal got the better deal. Injuries have ruined him, deprived him of his strengths.

I'm sure I read somewhere last season, that after every game, Ljungberg has to drain blood from one of his feet. Undoubtedly a great player, but not anymore.

Can they keep him genuinely fit though?

It's a lot of ability for £3million. A lot of talent.

I don't think we'll look back on this as a good signing in a year's time though...

Wenger very rarely sells a player at the wrong time. Look at a lot of players that Arsenal have sold in past years and most of them don't repeat their success they had with Arsenal.

The injuries have ruined him, he might still do a job for them, but he won't be the guaranteed 10-15 goals a season man he was a few years ago.

Lovely!!!! I wonder if West Ham know this? Surely this would be a good time to hang up his boots and concentrate on his modelling career as this cant be healthy!

I'm sure its worth however many thousnads of pounds a week they are paying him.

Good signing, providing they can keep him fit obviously. Quite surprised he left Arsenal considering what he's been saying in the papers lately etc. But I suppose we all know that it means next nothing now.

No doubt their fans will be pleased with this one.

With his injuries I doubt it - that would be the fans main concern.

Yes it's a good signing, i'd be pleased if I was a WHU fan but he hasn't played much in the past year or two.
