Kelly delighted to be at Preston

"The fact he was only out of work less than seven weeks – and some of that the summer holidays – tells its own story"

This bloke must have been in contact with Rob Kely's anus at some point to feel the need to point that little rasper out

That's all well and good in hindsight but I think Kelly's approach appealed to our players at the time, in contrast with Levein. He gave them a bit more freedom and tried to take the pressure off. Obviously this laissez-faire approach didn't fare so well when applied to preparation for a full season but it was ideal to get us out of trouble the season before last. I think we should be big enough to give credit where its due because I think some people forget just how pathetic we were in the last few weeks of Levein's management.

Levein was awful.

Kelly was awful.

Neither are fit to manage in the Championship.

Kelly will do okay all the while he is 'just' an assistant.

Spot on.

Although the word 'gutless' and the word 'alcoholic' could respectively be inserted into the above statements where applicable.

(I'm sure you'll match the respective adjective with the respective joke manager.)

Im sure he`ll be an asset to them as long as he doesn't have to make any serious decisions and just wants to be pally with the lads so to speak. He must be a great coach as quite a few of our players developed superbly under his guidance. Stearman and Fryatt to name but two. :|

I disagree at a fundamental level.

You're one of these fundamentalists I've heard about.

Incidentally, I was going to set up a website www.fund-a-mentalist.com where you can donate money towards a certain target, which, when reached will be awarded to a mental person to spend how they choose. The trade off is that video footage is taken to preserve their actions forever and will be sent to the donor in a special gift presentation box.

I tried setting up a Chinese version: www.fund-a-lentilist.com

...but I ended up being inundated with emails from bloody veggies and their smellier and less washed brethren - the vegans

I remember a few months after Levein was sacked, plenty of people on here decided they had nothing against Levein, and wished him well in his future endeavours. Despite - as Fez pointed out - our shittiness towards the end of Levein's tenure.

Interesting that the same has not yet been said in regards to Kelly. Another month needed? Or is it because he's still in our division, unlike Levein who was safely tucked away in a completely different country?

Whatever you think of Kelly, he was statistically superior to Levein (1.30 points per game to Levein's 1.19)... and he didn't manage to plunge us as low as Levein did.

Alas under Levein we had games like Coventry at home, Sheffield United at home and of course Spurs amidst all the shilo. Under Kelly we got absolutely nothing but lifeless inept vomit.

Rob Kelly will be a shit coach or assistant manager as he has never been a decent coach and never will be. There is not one jot of evidence anywhere in football to suggest that Tim Davies' gimp is good for anything other than being a gimp.

A seat near the away team dugout will be bought the day preston come to town

Kelly had his moment and it was short as a mating Mallard.

He'll doubtless get a picture in the club's corridors and I don't begrudge him that.

But he backed the wrong Horse and never threw off his blinkers.

In all this, I think Preston are a strong team this year and will have a very good season. They've bought well, Jones, Nicholls, Carter. I wouldn't have minded seeing all of those signings at Leicester so I think Preston shouldn't do too badly. They may slip up though in not having brought in a top striker, but that shouldn't stop them from a play-off finish or higher.

Thing is their not a stronger side than they were last season and for that reason i think it'll be harder for them to make the playoffs than it was last season when they just missed out... on the striker front IIRC Simpson was talking about being in the market for a new striker.
