Stevosevic Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 You can be a fan of football but you can't claim to be a fan of that team IMO.
lookwhaticando Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 You've gotten stick for that too, eh? You can be a fan of football but you can't claim to be a fan of that team IMO. Well, that's me fucked then.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 It's not black and white. LWICD you would just get a bloody train to Leicester if you lived in Birmingham even if you were 14 or however old he is.
Stevosevic Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 You can be a fan of football but you can't claim to be a fan of that team IMO. But to be honest i dont understand why anyone would claim to support Leicester and never see them play. It's not like we are Man utd or Chelsea winning trophies and have 80% of our games on TV - that's when the glory hunters cling on. If someone said they supported a club like ours you would expect them to have seen them play.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 Well of course it's not impossible, think of the thousands of Man United supporters there are all over the world woh probably haven't seen them play, bar mayb a game on tv. This poll inevitably comes down to what you consider a 'fan'
The People's Hero Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 It's not black and white. Damn right it's not. It's reddy-pink and white, penguin shaped and cover in jizz.
Daggers Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I wonder what makes a better fan? Is it something to do with shouting loudly, being an idiot or elastic bands?
davieG Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I wonder what makes a better fan?Is it something to do with shouting loudly, being an idiot or elastic bands? Aerodynamics is one aspect, so waving flags is out.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I wonder what makes a better fan?Is it something to do with shouting loudly, being an idiot or elastic bands? Ability to cool.
The People's Hero Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 Ability to cool. We're being such a pair of nobs toda... everyday.
Joe. Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I would call a fan somebody who goes to see their team regularly. In your case Walkers I wouldn't call you a fan, you just like to see Leiester do well When I say regularly, I don't mean every game in the season, but enough to give yourself "fan status" i.e over 15-20 games or something.
The People's Hero Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I don't see Leicester regularly? Furthermore, I'm not travelling to London this w/e despite it being closer to me than to you lot? Am I not a fan? Ah. Bollocks. Right I'm taking my penguin elsewhere.
lookwhaticando Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I always got shat on by circumstance. When I got into football and picked a team, I picked the team I believed to be my local one - being born in Leicestershire, City was the obvious choice. But at this time, I was actually living in Derbyshire and was the only person I knew who supported Leicester. My parents don't support anyone or anyone in particular. Nobody else in my family, my circle of friends or my school supported Leicester (they were all Derby or Man U fans, naturally). I had nobody to go to the game with, and nobody willing to take me (aged 10 to 14). Then we moved further south (Daventry, Northants) where I found myself in ever more alien footballing territory - other fans were to be found from all sorts of clubs (Villa, Everton, Southampton, Sheffield: U & W, etc etc) but still no Leicester. Once again, I was stuck. Aged 16, in the summer of 2001... we moved to Canada - 3,400 miles away from Leicester - which says all you need to know about my more recent inability to get to a game, despite no longer needing someone to take me/go with me. So... 12 years on, still no game. I intend to fix this little fact before year 13... watch this space.
Brainy Posted 17 August 2007 Author Posted 17 August 2007 These babies who go to games, the ones about 18 months old Are they proper fans? I bet they dont even know where they fooking are, let alone why 22 men are kicking a ball around on a field. As i've said, i've been to Villa Park to see Villa v Arsenal. I must be a proper Villa/Arsenal fan.
samingram_uk Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 You think of all the people who have never been to see Man U or Liverpool. The question should be true fan

It's not like we are Man utd or Chelsea winning trophies and have 80% of our games on TV - that's when the glory hunters cling on. If someone said they supported a club like ours you would expect them to have seen them play. Well... back in 2001/2002, I saw Leicester on a regular basis on the telly - 3,400 miles away. Go me. Then again in 2003/04. If a City game was on, I watched it. If not, highlights on Sunday night had to suffice. Then in 04/05, thanks to the master tactician that is Craig Levein, I got to see Leicester v Blackburn on the telly at 7am. I was up for that one. So I've seen us play. Yay. Before 2001, we never had Sky so didn't watch games live on the box... just MOTD. I guess by that gauge, I didn't become a fan until I moved incredibly far away. You can be a fan, but not a proper one. Oooooooh So... what about the Flask Brigade or the Prawn Sarnie Platoon? Are they proper fans?

lookwhaticando Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 You think of all the people who have never been to see Man U or Liverpool. The question should be true fan I just love the way people keep throwing out qualifying words like "proper" and "true". What next? "Genuine"? LWICD Organisation for Supporters Experiencing Reduced Spectatorship Love it! Very subtle... by the way.
hairy Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I call a fan someone who can tell which team 'their' club is playing next in the league. A 'real fan' is someone who can name the next three. Try it sometime and watch the Man U and Chelsea 'fans' squirm.

Geo V Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I moved to Leicester when about 14 and thought I supported them by basically looking around for their results. However, it wasn't until I actually saw them live that I realized what it was to be a fan of the club as the defeats actually started to hurt. I'm sure some fans think that they support a team in their own way but you don't really know what supporting a team is until you watch them live and not on some sofa in Cornwall (Man Utd and Liverpool fans )
Nath Posted 17 August 2007 Posted 17 August 2007 I feking hate the people that claim to be Man U fans. Mostly school kids, who have never watched them play. I know someone who was a Man U 'Fan' who dint even know the scores for most of the games they played. Pathetic!
