DB11 Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Why are MK Dons hated? I was reading a football magazine whilst on holiday (5 star hotel ) and it had a section called top 50 reasons to make football better. Reason 21 was; Kick MK Dons out of the league Just Because. I know that Daggers (I think it's him) slagged off RedOnRed in the McLeod thread saying he didn't like MK Dons but why does everyone hate them?
BartonFox Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Just out of curiosity when did you start following football? I ask this just in case there is a legitimate reason for your apparent stupidity

DB11 Posted 23 August 2007 Author Posted 23 August 2007 Have you ever heard of Wimbledon? Yes. I know that they changed their name to MK Dons but that's it Didn't think it was relevant to why they're hated... Lots of clubs change their names
Phube Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 I've followed footy for years... and I don't have anything against them!! It's all Wimbledon District Coucil's fault anyway!!
lildave3 Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Yes. I know that they changed their name to MK Dons but that's it Didn't think it was relevant to why they're hated... Lots of clubs change their names Who else has changed their names?
Joe. Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Yes. I know that they changed their name to MK Dons but that's it Didn't think it was relevant to why they're hated... Lots of clubs change their names Dannyboy, take my advice before you end up looking more of a tool.
Milky Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Yes. I know that they changed their name to MK Dons but that's it Didn't think it was relevant to why they're hated... Lots of clubs change their names ...but think what the MK stands for.
BartonFox Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Who else has changed their names? Nottingham Forest. Now known as Nottingham Forest Nil.
DB11 Posted 23 August 2007 Author Posted 23 August 2007 Oh so Wimbledon folded and a new club started up called MK Dons and the FA allowed the new club to start so high up the league to replace Wimbledon and football fans are jealous / think they should have had to start from the bottom?
Alexikokopops Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Yes. I know that they changed their name to MK Dons but that's it Didn't think it was relevant to why they're hated... Lots of clubs change their names They were originally called Wimbledon and played in London (near the Wimbledon tennis place). Wimbledon were in financial trouble, blah blah blah, and the entire club moved from London to Milton Keynes, which has never had a football team because the town itself is only 40 years old (this year in fact). They were renamed MK Dons (The Dons was Wimbledon's old nickname) and thus MK Dons was born. People hate them because it's similar to the American sports franchise business, where teams can up and move across the country, and because they see it as the destruction of an old established club to create a new team for a new town. AFC Wimbledon sprung up in the Wimbledon area (although they play in Kingston), and that's the whole shebang in a nutshell.
DB11 Posted 23 August 2007 Author Posted 23 August 2007 Who else has changed their names? Leicester Fosse
Alexikokopops Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Who else has changed their names? Leicester Fosse He;s got you there lildave. On top of what I said above dannyboy, people view MK Dons as a new club, rather than a continuation of the old Wimbledon because they moved to a different part of the country and changed the name, so feel they should've started at the bottom of the Fotball League ladder rather than where Wimbledon were in the league.

And they went into administration anyway, sold all their best players and ended up in League Two anyway

Wimbledon Council wouldn't let them develop their old ground (Plough Lane or summat like that) they had been playing at Selhurst for years. So they had to move or die. The question was move to another part of London (with all it's inherent devolping problems) or move to a Town who would be glad to have them!! I don't mind them at all... I reverse my hatred for Arsenal, Leeds, Milwall and local rivals!!

Guest Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Do we confuse him by adding AFC Wimbledon to the story?
Webbo Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 To be honest I always hated Wimbledon. I'm totally indifferent to MK Dons.
