Joe. Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 Apparently his toe touched the line (this does come from a South African mate though )
Ultra Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 We were not disgraced. A few decisions in the second half went against us, not just the disallowed try. But overall, the better side won.
AyewJoking Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 Credit to SA, they played better than we did and had the try been allowed, who knows......... It took a while for a decision to be made and by the time it was disallowed I'd almost lost interest. Is that what we want in football? Just frustrating that England worked so hard to get to the final and then not really do much when they got there.
Geo V Posted 21 October 2007 Posted 21 October 2007 All the bounces, all the refs decisions, everything went SA way today. I started a thread before asking why English sportsman are disliked so much and today was a perfect example of us being robbed and I personally feel it was not a fair event, The ref was shite.
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2007 Author Posted 21 October 2007 The rugby equivalent of Italy beating France on penalties in the football final. Not exactly like watching Brazil. Still you can't fault the effort or heart of the English, and to come the closest to scoring a try is an achievement in itself. Good luck getting your heads down and getting on with the PROPER tourny now in Feb'. My genuine condolences and respect. :applaud:
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2007 Author Posted 21 October 2007 Sorry, Milky, that's pretty conclusive.
City Fan Posted 21 October 2007 Posted 21 October 2007 I said right from when it happened that it wasn't a try. When he put the ball down his knee hadn't touched the line and his foot was in the air - no problem. However his foot blatantly slid over the line before lifting his foot up.
Lord Nibblington Posted 21 October 2007 Posted 21 October 2007 When I was watching it live I had a horrible feeling he went into touch first. And then watching the reply, whilst the ITV commentators were babbling about how it's a try, it really does look like Cueto's left boot slides onto the line... then he lifts it up.
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2007 Author Posted 21 October 2007 Paying attention to Miles Harrison and Stuart Barnes is your first, major error. Anyone who's ever had to put up with listening to Barnes commentate on the Tigers will confirm he's the most awfully bias pundit in the world (he's ex-Bath, he HATES the Tigers.) Of course he's going to say it's a blatant try. I'd take Johnno's word, and the word of the entire BBC pointing it the try was "rightly" disallowed, tbh.
Suffolk_fox Posted 21 October 2007 Posted 21 October 2007 In my mind, this England squad have achieved more than the 2003 squad just getting to the Final. To turn themselves around so acutely, and go from potentially going home after the group phase to Finalists - A hell of a transformation. We just need to score more tries, and we'll be unstoppable in the 6 Nations.
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2007 Author Posted 21 October 2007 We just need to score more tries, and we'll be unstoppable in the 6 Nations. Hahahaha! Oh that's all then? Brilliant, you've one hand on the trophy already!? !

Whilst I was listening to them babbling on about how it was a clear try, I was fairly certain I was watching a replay of how Cueto had in fact not scored a try.
Milky Posted 22 October 2007 Posted 22 October 2007 Sorry, Milky, that's pretty conclusive. No need to say sorry, cus i'm actually glad it looks like his foot was in touch. That way it was the correct decision and makes it easier to take.
