Wooooooooohooooooooo!

England have shown just how to play a World Cup event. They are getting better by the game and haven't done what sides like NZ did and peaked too soon. Lets hope they can keep it going against South Africa who will no doubt get through against the Argies. They`ll then have all the motivation needed to succeed after their opening game dicking of them and I reckon we can do it again.

By no means is this gonna be an easy game for the Southies - my missus is a 'Bok and she agrees the Argies have been THE surprise package in this world cup - more so than our boys!

Posted

The Argies shouldn't have been a surprise package to anyone, the warning signs have been there for years. The tri-nations just have their hands firmly over their eyes, should have let 'em in yonks back. Now the IRB are leaning on them, they might.

South Africa could end up winning this thing having just played Tonga, USA, Samoa, England, Fiji and Argentina. I wonder if they'll actually feel like they've earnt it.

24 - 6 to south africa at half time , so many unforced argie errors and the boks ruthlessly taking advantage

I'll be honest, shall I? I was going to come on here and post about as many HAHAs as I could fit in a post. I was going to really, really, really lay in and have a good old roll around the floor. But you don't deserve it.

To be honest, that's got to be one of the most demoralising, embarrassing and disillusioning performances a major nation could give. I feel for you, lads, I really do. I know what it feels like. I've spent most of my international rugby life watching an underachieving, second-rate side and only in recent years have we REALLY had something to sing about. Welcome to the dark ages of rugby union, lads, I only hope it doesn't take you the 20 odd years it took us to get something of a renaissance.

My condolences to you all, I genuinely, genuinely feel for you.

Well Finners, I'm going to have a go now son!

How on earth has that side got to the World Cup final! fantastic!

Another block buster weekend of Sport next weekend, fantastic!

No fooking idea. Crazy.

I'll tell you one thing though, the 6N will be fooking interesting.

Oh, if we don't do well I wont care, I barely watch it tbh. When it comes to Rugby I'm a rent a fan lol and I admit it.

They were there for the taking tonight. I think we can turn them over and lets hope the extra days rest is telling come next weekend.

Posted

The Argies tried to play a running game but didn't do it very well.

It was a game too far for them. They were nowhere near the side that beat France or Ireland.

We'll be a different proposition entirely.

As long as Wilko finds his kicking boots, and Andy Farrell is not allowed within 50 metres of the pitch, it should be a VERY competitive game - certainly much more so than the 0-36 horror show last month.

Aint got a clue about Rugby(Even less than Football, before anyone else says!!!) BUT them Rugger players are fcuking massive!

Even the ikkle ones are massive.

MASSIVE BASTARDS! :(

Posted

England were only ever going to win the semi if the game was played in similar fashion to the game against the skippies. And luck would have it, it went in our favour. We can grapple and grind out a result with the best of them and who cares if it wasn't flowing rugby. We've struggled for 4 years now, so free flowing rugby is off the menu as far as we're concerned. That's what makes it all the more sweeter. We've been shit for 4 years, not beaten a decent Rugby nation in that time and took a pasting against South Africa in the group stages. Then we've come to life and have every chance of retaining the World Cup and making a mockery out of the Nations who've ridiculed us over the past few years.

This shouldn't be happening to England, we don't do things like this in Sport. We're usually the one's on the receiving end of a fairytale like this.

Next weekend will be phenomenal and i'm proud of them.

Posted

Of course the final should be more competitive, same applies in rugby and football, neither team will want to lose it - the game should be slower and a bit graftier. The Boks have already illustrated a bit of mental frailty against the Fijians so I doubt they'll just come out and blow you away with the confidence of last time, either.

Still, they're very good at what they do and what they do is rather similar to what you do. It won't be pretty, but if you like scrummaging it'll be rather orgasmic.

Posted

Twas a hard grind against Le Frogs, but that is what we had to do to beat them. They were the dominant team, but I think that was expected.

Jonny was ok, but I can't help feeling that we swapped him for Rita Fairclough in the 1st half. And she would have kicked better!

But we won! Underdogs in the final without a shadow of a doubt, but we seem to be playing to that.

Finners, we are improving - we got a try this time :D

The final will be excellent. The 'Boks should win it and, arguably, deservedly so. But at least we are there and the pressure is on them, I think, as they are favourites.

So who knows???

Not sure about deservedly. :dunno:

They are the better side technically, but if they don't come with the right attitude and mentality to put the game to bed then they won't deserve it. Like I said, you can't really fault England's determination and heart even if their rugby's been technically rather weak. And if Joe's right about one thing, it's that the Boks haven't exactly hard the hardest road to the final either.

By deservedly, I just think that they have shown the right attitude and aptitude throughout the tournament. I haven't seen every game they have played and my opinion is based on the couple I have seen and post match reports. They have played some very good rugby and have looked more organised in comparison to England. There are some intelligent players in their team - quick thinkers.

I agree that they appear to have had an easier run in to the final, but you could argue that no game is 'easy' in a World Cup. If England don't hit them hard in the first half, they could easily run us into the ground. We will need to score first, I think to put them in doubt.

I still have a sore throat after Saturday and expect another one next week. I am so looking forward to this game though. For England's sake, I hope they are supremely confident. As were the Wallabies and the French. That seems to be their weakness.

COME ON ENGLAND!!

Posted

They've got some great players all round the park, fantastic side. Like I said, though, Tonga and Fiji proved they can be rattled. And if England have been good at something in this tournament, it's getting teams rattled. It was enough against Australia and France. I hope, for the sakes of the year or two of abuse I'll be on the end of - that it won't be enough against the Boks. Sorry. ;):P

Oh you'll be getting that anyway mate, Wales went out in the group stages to Figi and England made the final, it's just the degree of the abuse you'll be suffering that is yet to be determained.

Narh, second place is just the first to lose. If you follow up with a shocking Six Nations and we do alright, the kids'll be quiet. And won't have "World Champions" to fall back on, either. ;)

Look at that, not even a country, it's just a collections of dots you'd need a magnifine glass to see on the average world map.

How exactly can you get to the World Cup final being "technically weak". He must still be on that jungle juice.

Er. Take a look back at the highlights of the World Cup so far and you'll find out? :dunno:

Still not quite sure what your argument is, really. I mean which one of us, REALLY, is heavily blinkered by bias? I think it's you, son.

Er, heavily blinkered by bias? I suggest you look back to after the Aussie win. I was under no illusions then, and i'm not now. There's more to rugby than free flow attack mode don't you know! You seem to be beating us with that same stick all the time.

Our defence has been technically strong! Hardly shipping any points against the Aussies and France. Our Forward play has been technically strong! Just to name a couple of things. At the end of it all, it's not about the size of the dog in the fight, it's about the size of the fight in the dog.
