Finnegan Posted 15 October 2007 Author Posted 15 October 2007 But the fight in the dog isn't really "skill". Grit and determination isn't really an ability, a sign of talent. It's arguably equally commendable but it doesn't make you a more technically gifted footballer. This isn't to suggest the English team is talentless completely, but in this tournament they have - by their own standards - been technically weak. Even St. Johnny's been a poor show, really. What's his kicking % for the tournament? I'm pretty sure, if you asked him, he's not too happy about it. The tournament as a whole has been "technically weak" in contrast to previous years. I'm a little bit bias towards the backs, I admit, but I will put my hand up and say you were "technically excellent" up front in '03 and were absolutely, 100%, deserved World Champions. France on Saturday? Woeful basics and execution, some horrendous decision making and some terrible, terrible kicking. Ditto Wales against Fiji and Australia, Ireland in just about every match, and so on. I don't see what's difficult about admitting it's been a fairly poor tournament. I think it's fair to say that if you'd played like this in '03 you'd have been out in the group stages.

SA vs Tonga and SA vs fiji were brilliant matches to watch in terms of techinal ability but matches like france vs arg , fiji vs wales , france vs NZ, italy vs scotland were in the balance right to the end and proved real hard fought battles. Obviously the last 2 england matches stood out for me and im so bloody happy that i get to watch us in another world cup final. Another show of courage is needed saturday and i dont doubt for 1 minute we will get it . whether that is enough is another story
john_lcfc Posted 15 October 2007 Posted 15 October 2007 i hate it how rugby fans now seem to think there sport is better than football. I remember thinking this after 2003 aswell. Rugby isnt talked about apart from a month or so every 4 years. now they think its more popular because more people watched it than england v estonia. anyone else hate this egg chasing crap?

Yeah agreed, but think they deserve their week in the spotlight. At the end of the day, football is always at the centre and England dont exactly captivate their audience and dont win anything. The England Rugby team have the chance to put a bit of pride back into English people, and i think they have the right to do so.
Joe. Posted 15 October 2007 Posted 15 October 2007 To be honest I do think South Africa will be too strong for us, so I am predicting an England defeat unfortunately. However I predicted defeats against Australia and France and look what happened there

Did you ever stop and consider that a lot of people are just "sports fans" and want to follow both? How do you think I feel through most of the autumn internationals most years when I can't read decent coverage anywhere in the papers 'cos it's all about the football? There aren't rugby fans thinking they're "more popular" or "more important" or "better than football" anymore than you are being a complete dick about rugby. Now, you want to talk football, you've come to the right forum. You don't want to talk about rugby? Well no one made you read this thread. Good read

I all fairness, Finners makes a good point. If you tend not to care much for a sport, you tend not to notice how much it is no the TV or in the papers. I am not a big tennis fan and I rarely read anything about it and would definitely not make a point of watching it. Rugby is on TV quite a lot. There are as many tournaments in Rugby as in Football. I think Can't be bothered to work it all out now.. It wom't be talked about on here, because this isn't a Rugby forum. www.rugbyforums.com tend not to discuss Football - go and have a look Or get down to the Tigers once in a while and enjoy the atmosphere
Finnegan Posted 16 October 2007 Author Posted 16 October 2007 Atmosphere? At a Guinness Premiership game? Ahaha. Ahahahahah. Ahahaha. "Tiiiiiiiiiiiigers, Tiiiiiiiiiiiiigers". Really exciting.

dandannieldanok Posted 19 October 2007 Posted 19 October 2007 France playing without fear, brilliant stuff.
Milky Posted 19 October 2007 Posted 19 October 2007 France playing without fear, brilliant stuff. ..and getting completely battered by a brilliant Argentina! Superb win.
Ultra Posted 19 October 2007 Posted 19 October 2007 A fine way for Loffreda to finish his stint as their coach. Hope he can get Tigers to play the same way!
Sparky Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 dear loffreda , can u please bring hernandez and corleto with you , many thanks sparky . the nerves are kicking in now , come on england , do us proud
purpleronnie Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 Well I'm a couple of minutes away from the easiest 120 quid I'll ever make.
Milky Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 That was clearly a try! What the fook was that official playing it. Would've been 10-9 to us at that point aswell. Bugger. The two lads in the studio think it was a good decision! Can't see that myself. Unless they've had some super zoom in or something. We gave stupid points aswell though. Poor discipline.
Brainy Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 I had to try and expect us to lose, meaning when we did lose I wasn't too disappointed. Now onto Brazil tomorrow.

Milky Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 I just don't understand how you can get a decision wrong with video evidence. Crazy. Martin Johnson thinks it was the right decision! I need to see it again now.
Brainy Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 Im not so sure on the rules, but when the ball was put down, his foot/leg was over the line but in the air. Hopefully this isn't something that'll be debated for the next four years.

They think his foot just touched the line before he managed to lift it.
Brainy Posted 20 October 2007 Posted 20 October 2007 They think his foot just touched the line before he managed to lift it. Then it shouldn't have been a try.
