Misses has just got in and she says it was on the radio news

Maybe she misheard, and that people think they should sack him, or they're not going to sack him...

No, I wouldn't fire McClaren because I wouldn't have chosen the tosser in the first place. All he did at Boro was spend the chairman's money. The FA said that he had gotten Boro to an FA Cup semi. Didn't Pardew get West Ham to the final in their first year in the Premiership?

McClaren shouldn't be sacked for one game, he should be sacked because of the awful way his teams play, the fact that he is clearly not qualified to manage at that level, and the fact that he doesn't stand up the "big-name" stars (albeit keeping Barry instead of Lampard was a wise decision), and that some of his selections are absolutely beyond belief. David James had one of his finest seasons in his career and I feel that Scott Carson is one of the most underrated players in the Premiership at the minute, yet McClaren sticks with butterfingers Robinson. This, despite the fact that stats prove that he is one of the worst keepers in the league in terms of positioning, and just this year he has made several clangers, his reactions are also some of the worst I've ever seen.

That is why I'd sack the cnut.

Wasn't trying to defend Mclaren, was gutted when he got the Job & have never liked him personally, but the blame cannot always go with the manager, I'm afraid we've been "underperforming" for some time now, maybe we should look at the Players?

How the hell anyone would drop Robinson is beyond me, it really is. 10 Games = Conceded 2, Says enough for me.

Possibly because he's shit.

Isn't it now 4 in 11? Or is Croatia meant to be the 11th game and you're just missing it out so it doesn't look so bad :unsure::D

Before the Russia game -

10 Games, 2 Goals conceded. I don't see how you can make that statement!

You must be joking!

Have you not seen Robinson's performances of late?! I've been saying this for a year (I started a thread about Robinson/James last November), Robinson's a liability for England.

When England play against top sides they'll get punished for it.

True, he hasn't been on top of his game for Spurs lately, but James hasn't been at 100% (I'm a fan of his as well), he's had mistakes, just as costly as Robbo's. It's Just the media don't make a big fuss about it, becasue he's not the #1.

But if the guy had kept 5 Clean Sheets in a row, for country, there's no way you'd drop him.

And David James isn't?

Just curious. I personally don't think there is an English keeper around currently who is not just a disaster waiting to happen on the international stage.

Those 5 clean sheets you say:

Estonia (h)

Russia (h)

Israel (h)

Estonia (a)

Andorra (a)

Hardly top class teams.

Robert Green seems to be flavour of the month at the minute.

But to be fair, since James has hit form in the last year or so his England chances have been very limited.

I'll admit he was a liability a couple of years back but like I say, since he's come good again he hasn't actually had chance to be in the side to prove his worth.

5 games on the bounce winning 3-0. Not many managers can say that.

I think he had a bit of a slow start, but since Gareth Barry came back into the fold we have played very well in my opinion. The Russia game was just a banana skin.

McLaren IN!

Did he not make a blunder the other week, and let a goal in?

Just saying, he's not any less of a liability than robbo, and if robbo's keeping clean sheets (Albeit agasint "none top class teams") then you can't justify dropping him...

Probably best it was 3-0 then :P.

Yeah, we did win a lot of games on the bounce, but I can't say that any of those performances are going to get us anywhere in the big tournaments. We should be beating teams like Estonia 3-0, maybe more. Russia was a test for us, as was Croatia away. We lost both of them, banana skin or not, these players that we have should have the capability to dispose of these teams.

Exactly. The players did not provide.

Just Mclaren has a gimps grin, he doesn't deserve all of the critism.

I agree with some of what you three are saying, but you're underestimating Russia there. They're a good side, as are Israel.

Narh, shaddap. The Jocks can stuff the Azurri and the Frogs and you're forced to believe the tabloid bollocks about Israel being a really difficult side? You're a team full of overpayed, overshopped, oversexed prima donas and you should be embarassed of your current situation. You need a manager with some balls to get you all fired up a bit.

Look at the quality of the Scotland squad and compare it to your own. Manwell can give his little speech about European footballers, Russia having some quality players and yadda yadda - but the fact of the matter is, while your side may have been overrated in the past, it's still bordering world class and it's still mamothly underachieving.

You should have BREEZED this qualifying group with the quality of your side. It makes ours look like the ultimo-group-of-death!

I'll will never understand what possesed the F.A. to ever think that McLaren was a better choice than Martin O'Neill. But that aside, McLaren just joins the long list of managers who have continued the dismal record of the national side. There has to be something wrong with our game or approach to Internatioal football. To keep blaming the manager is too simplistic.

James did hit form when it was fairly clear he was in the international wilderness.

Now that the goalkeeping spot has come under scrutiny, I can't help but notice he's started dropping some clangers for Portsmouth. I feel it's related.
