I was willing that ball to go in, like you say he desperately needs a goal. His confidence looked absolutely shattered on Saturday (still bemused by two of the broadsheets giving him MOTM ) and not too hot again last night - but was still an improvement on his performance at Bristol. Hopefully he can rattle in a couple of 25-yarders against Southampton on Saturday like last season.

He's a Holloway type player, which will soon restore his confidence when the Two Little Ian's get together on the training ground.

I'm fancying a Hume special Saturday now you've just mentioned that. They were 2 rippers to be fair last season, that lead to him scoring about 6 in 7 games after that as well.

I sincerely hope today's won't be just an isolated appearance. Chambers is a special player.

Like Hullfox I hope he is held on the bench to make 20/25 minute impacts.

He's not strong enough nor does he have the stamina to be a 90-minute player at this stage anyway - not at first team level - but his pace, his skill, his eye for a shooting or passing chance and his ability to finish are excellent.

At times he can still look nieve or overwhelmed but even when he's below he's best he is always dangerous. In a reserves match recently his control was a bit off and he seemed a bit subdued at times but he still make two goals and might have scored a couple as well.

Defenders blink at their peril with this lad. He will lurk and look harmless at times - especially in plces where it doesn't count much. But when he's around the box he comes alive, does you with his speed and close control and finishes with the calmness of an assassin.

He's a good team player who takes responsibility for making things happen. I was pleased how determined he was last night and if he can marry that attitude with his unquestioned ability Holloway will have another gem.

One of his runs last night was Joachim-esque in his first full season at Leicester. He has that look about him. Just pure blistering pace.

Iv met ashley many times, around near where he live and at my mates leaving party, and he seems like a nice bloke. he is definetly a great player in the making.

didnt do himself any harm, but is he good enough to replace some of our injured strikers? not yet.

I would do the same again for a few more matches... bring him on from the bench for the last 15 or so minutes...

Just unlucky

How many times do I have to listen to people jabber on about Fryatt being unlucky-he's not good enough to score his share of goals to get us out of this division and he'll be slaughtered in the Premiership.

He's just had a nine game goal drought and you're telling me he's just unlucky :crylaugh:

Chambers on ther other hand needs to be in and around the squad forget all this bollox about him being too young!

So he beats the keeper with a good header and gets the ball cleared off the line by a defender.

How is that not unlucky

Anyway - Chambers, awesome cameo and that's what this thread should be about not another excuse for Fryatt bashing

It's not unlucky it's football!

You make your own luck if good enough!

Gary Player once said

"the more I practice the luckier I get"

Let's hope the fillip Ollie brings to the side will have an effect on Fryatt because although he's been woeful in front of goal I actually do think he has it in him to progress but it will have to be sooner rather then later.

Ashley brought in that important ingredient - pace when attacking. Fryatt is simply too slow mentally and physically and did not read the attacks as they were being built-up around him - the first half build-ups were just too slow - the only time that we attacked at pace, it resulted in a great chance for Newton which should have been buried. I'd give Ashley a chance on Saturday, play 4-5-1 and play the ball on the floor through the middle

Fryatt's lack of pace is a major handicap to his making progress as a Chamopionship striker but his other problem is that he simply doesn't link easily with the other players. He is such an individual but he tends to be too greedy and takes too many touches where it's not likely to hurt anyone.

That would be tolerable if he was an instinctive and superlative finisher but two goals in 14 so far is not a lot better than last season when he was injured or less than fully fit.

Chambers is an individual too but he's fast and well able to link with others and spots and delivers a killer pass no trouble.

Unfortunately where we disagree is in your last line.

There's no way Chambers will cope leading the line. I doubt he'd last 20 minutes. It wouldn't be fair or realistic.

But having him on the bench to use for the last 20/30 minutes would enable him to build up his contributions, especially if he were given the fairly free role he had yesterday. He did offer something different and that's important.

Agree, and a good sense of perspective.

My worry is that he gets a few games, doesn't score and then gets slated on here forever more. He looks a good talent but should be blooded in slowly.

I thought he was going to play on the wing when he came on.

But it says a lot about him, when Iain Hume goes wide right instead of Ash.

I think Chambers will be a very good players in a few years but would be intrested to hear peoples thoughts as a possible winger

He's comfortable enough out wide where it is easier for him to use his pace and passing ability but it's harder for him to get into the box and into shooting positions which tends to waste his ability as a finisher. Hence my feeling that Holloway would beright giving him a free role then he can move in and away from the main heat of battle as needs be.

glad you agree with most of it! to be honest I can't see the problem in starting him and giving him a half, to replace him at half time when he gets tired - bringing on some fresh legs might be better after Chambo's pace has given their defenders the run around in the first half? So I agree that he could probably only last 45 mins, I'd just make them the first 45 mins

nope, I'd like to see a 4-5-1 played on the floor with the man up top running onto through balls - what about playing the ball out from the back and passing it, rather than all this long ball stuff?
