Staf Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 Joey Barton has launched a scathing attack on Newcastle fans, branding them "vicious" for the abuse meted out to boss Sam Allardyce and the players. The midfielder's comments come on the back of his side's 3-0 home defeat by Liverpool that saw Allardyce jeered by a section of the St James' Park crowd. "I've not yet seen the famous crowd I was expecting to hear get behind us," said the £5m signing. "Instead it has been vicious; I don't think I've heard a crowd that vicious." Newcastle have picked up just one point from 12 - a statistic that has seen them slip down the table to 11th following a good start to the season. Barton, who joined from Manchester City in the summer, said the supporters need to begin backing the players and the manager. "Last Saturday I was sitting on the bench - and after 20 minutes I had picked up on it. It shocked me," added the 25-year-old. "The fans want success and they want it straight away, but unless they change that mentality and start supporting the side through poor results then things won't change." "Unless there's a massive change, it's going to be the same for this manager, the next manager and whoever comes in after that. "If it continues, when the manager goes for players, they will go somewhere else rather than jump in the frying pan. "Sam's a good manager. He's getting the brunt of the criticism but doesn't deserve it. Not many managers can turn a club round in five minutes." My position is safe if I get results Joey Barton is a idiot he will be gone in january Sorry to start a new thread but i thought i would let you know
Jack Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 He's the biggest tosser in Football. Nobody will want him in January.
Simi Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 To be fair to Barton, the Newcaslte fans have been well out of order lately. Although I doubt that these words from Barton will change any views they have at the moment.

He's probably saying what's true but is entirely the wrong person to be saying it, it needs some one like Shearer to say it but i suspect he hasn't got the balls for it!

You're right davieG. Anything Barton does or says tends to get slated in the media, so I don't really think he's got a chance of this having the desired effect!
Hullfox Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 Problem is that you see the name Barton and you just turn off to what's being said anyway.....

Father Ted Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 Problem is that you see the name Barton and you just turn off to what's being said anyway..... Agreed. And considering Pro footballers are stupid and dumb anyway he is right at the very top of that pile. What a dick. He'll be out with Allardyce when he goes and I don't really see him having much of a future because when he even starts playing half decent he will do something completely stupid and ruin his chances again. How he isn't in jail, I DON'T KNOW!
Tommy G Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 He's a cvnt who think's he's Gods Gift to footy. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire
Carragher Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Barton is an absolute twat. But as always he has a point. Still a twat.
martyn Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Carragher spot on. Barton pretty much always speaks sense in the media and this is a case in point, Newcastle fans have to be the most overrated in football, however, he's hardly the right person to come out saying this.

Interesting viewpoint. What do you base it on exactly?

Disagree. They still turn up, 52,000 week in week out without fail despite their team being poor this season.
lookwhaticando Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 They still turn up, 52,000 week in week out without fail despite their team being poor this season... ... and the season before, the season before that and the season before even that. It's been one big bastard slide for them ever since Sir Bobby was dispatched.
Ultra Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Agreed. And considering Pro footballers are stupid and dumb anyway he is right at the very top of that pile. What a dick. How he isn't in jail, I DON'T KNOW! Erm, possibly because his trial's been postponed until the end of the season? His tirade typifies everything wrong about English footballers. Heaven forbid that fans should ask for them to put in a few decent performances to justify their obscenely high salaries..
Staf Posted 3 December 2007 Author Posted 3 December 2007 Disagree. They still turn up, 52,000 week in week out without fail despite their team being poor this season. I agree that is a good attendance but i think they expect to much from their team i think they are mid table at their best
Joe. Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 I agree that is a good attendance but i think they expect to much from their team i think they are mid table at their best Do a bit of research and look where they were 10 or so years ago. Then you'll probably understand why they're so disappointed and expect more.

Daz.I Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 I agree He's a dickhead but it's a bit out or order. He will go bolton in January and finish off with a blinding season trust me.

Get up and do your job your paid so much!!! id put up with a bit of booing for the amount of money you get paid for playing the sport you love!! absolute Div get a grip. on the other hand Newcastle fans are pretty savage.
Ultra Posted 4 December 2007 Posted 4 December 2007 on the other hand Newcastle fans are pretty savage. As they have every right to be, given their team's underachievement over the past FORTY years.. It's quite amusing to think we've won more trophies than them since the Premiership started..

Didn't they get Champions League football a few years back?
Geo V Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 You dont say negative things about your own fans as a player and Barton is just one of those idiots that doesnt know when to keep his mouth shut.
