Burnley Pre Match

I got this idea for picking the team.......

Put all the players who are fit in a hat, and pick the first 10 out.Put Fulop in goal, and get on with it.

You will see an average performance from an average set of players, with lots of mistakes and few chances, non of them taken.

Or we could let Ollie sort a team out from whats available, with the same outcome.

Can someone explain why our defence is taking a truck load of critiscism, first it was Sheehan and now it seems that McAuley, Kisnorbo as well as Stearman are all shite.

We've got the best defence in the league and it's not just because of Megson it was ok before him and it's been ok since he buggered off;

Yes it's not perfect and yes we have problems but they sure wont be solved by changing the defence.

I agree davieG

Kisnorbo and McAuley are solid and are very good defenders at this level, just because they had a shite game on Saturday doesn't all of a sudden make them bad players. We have the best defence in the league and these two have played a major part in that along with the other defenders such as Sheehan, Mattock, Stearman, N'gotty and Kenton when he has played and of course Fulop in goal.

Fulop

Stearman..McAuley..Kisnorbo..Sheehan

Newton..King...Clemence..Hayes

Hume...Sappleton

Subs: N'Gotty, Kenton, A. Chambers, Cort, Mattock/Kaebi

I would change Newton for A.Chambers and i think thats about right :scarf:

Sappleton shouldn't start, From Saturday's evidence he doesn't look like he's ready for first team football just yet.

You're only as good as your last game on an internet messageboard.

Fair point who would you start up front then? Unless we go 5 across the middle

i got a good feeling about this game.

I think he SHOULD bring N'Gotty back into the team, and look at replacing Newton too. Frankly, i dont care if its Kaebi or not coming in, just someone. Anyone!

As bad as he was on Saturday I would play Cort. I think he can offer us something presuming Hayes and Sheehan play who like to cross the ball, Cort is good in the air which is something all of our other strikers lack.

Burnley have been notoriously difficult for us to break down and, with the goals they are currently scoring it might be hard for us to keep a clean sheet given the confidence they have.

Which means we'll have to score to have any chance of winning.

For this reason and although I am a big critic of Kaebi I could see a case for playing him on the right or at least having him as a sub.

Kaebi's combination of speed and movement is better than possibly all our players and I'd be interested to see if he can unsettle the home defence and provide opportunities for others.

Chambers is too raw for a starting place even if he's fit. Hume doesn't convince me as a non-striker and that leaves very few alternatives unless we go to 4-3-3.

It would be a risk, no question, because Kaebi is a bit of a liability in some situations. Getting beaten again at home makes it extremely difficult to justify any sort of experiment but I don't know that the other options are any more attractive.

Can't imagine he'll do anything but start with Hume out wide though. It really is a non-position for us right now and there's no excuse for it.

To be honest it might come down the keeper. He was very good and made so awesome saves. Also i rate sheehan, stearman and McAuley. But i have never liked kisnorbo to be honest. Maybe its down to his start with us but im never comftable with him, he might score a few goals and play amazing some weeks but thats my opinion.

There's nothing much wrong with our defence as the stats show and even Saturday's goals were really down to our own carelessness rather than any magic from Southampton that we couldn't deal with.

For a long time I've been concerned about our passing once we get the ball in defence but it really is one or our least pressing problems considering we don't have a right midfielder, we don't get enough men forwards, we're not fast enough and we don't take enough of our chances.

Hello People first time post but long time reader.

Tonight don't look good for us and after coming off a poor performance on Saturday. We'll have it all to do tonight. Cort might fair better playing away from home but he needs someone to play off and sadly Hume isn't the player. The midfield hasn't looked good for awhile and we need people like Clemence to put in a big performance tonight and lead from the front.

I think Burnley though will win 2-0.

But still CMON CITTTA !

It's certainly true that our defence can be improved both in terms of quality and depth but now is not the time to be disrupting what is an acceptably competent team. Just because their are more options for change at the back doesn't mean we should be changing just for the sake of it. Besides I'd be amazed if it did change at the very most I could see Mattock back with Sheehan in front to adopt a more defensive approach or simply to push Hayes out to the RM.

The defence hasn't been the problem this season but lately has been our downfall.

Chambers McAuley Kissa N Gotty

That would be my choice and even though Sheehan and Stearman haven't really put a foot wrong. I would like to see these 4 at the back for a few games and give the youngsters a break. Stearman form seems to have dipped and Sheehan offers only good dead ball deliveries for us. We need to have a strong backline and hard to break down and i think these 4 meet that.

Welcome to the bearpit Hugo. I hope you're not going to be serially pessimistic with your scorecasts.

Losing is one thing but being persuaded that we're going to lose beforehand only makes it worse.

Perhaps a beer or two beforehand would help you foresee all sorts of wondrous goals from our strikeforce.

To be a happy City fan you've got to learn about illusions.

PS: Two pints of Barbars and you'll even believe Newton could score a hat-trick. :D

:D I live in hope with leicester but i can't see us winning tonight against a Burnley side bang in form. Saturday wasn't great but the lads might hopefuly restore some pride tonight and get the 3 points with a brazilian liked performance.

3 Bottle's of Jack Daniels still wouldn't make me think Newton will hit a hat trick

Or kaebi make the sub bench ...

It might make you take 20 minutes per shot in a game of pool though.
