Joe. Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I think Ollie should keep his job til at least next Christmas - exactly as I thought last week.Being fair it didn't sound as if we failed to make any chances today - as has been the case in some previous matches - and it is not Holloway's fault that we failed to take them. However Fryatt's scoring record continues to be awful and one of our problems is that Holloway thinks he's good. His missed chance from four yards today wouldn't have changed the result but it was sympomatic of our situation. We really do need confident front players and people to supply them. Holloway has to show what he really stands for and that's not easy in our predicament because there's no margin for error. We're physchologically running scared. I've consistently said that defensive overload will never enable to win more than we lose or draw and Holloway needs to appreciate this and make sure we have enough attacking potential. Once he does that - and retains some faith in that approach - I am quite sure we will win more games and, after all, it is winning that counts. He needs also to learn that you can adjust systems as much as you like but you NEVER play square pegs in round holes unless there really is no alternative. Wow. I agree with it all.
BigGibbo Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Noticed a while back there were many members on here calling for him to be booted, and that he lost the plot so early on. Who the fook were these degenerates?

Couldn't have said that better myself really. January will be the key to Holloway being a failure or success at Leicester, I like I hope everyone does, will get behind him and hope he gets it right.
MC Prussian Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Same ol', same ol'. And with new managers constantly making it worse, patience is running out. You can use better wrap paper for making presents look good, but if the present's crap, that's not helping anyone. Same goes to managers at LCFC in the past 4 to 5 years. Should've stuck with Megson.
Steven Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 yeah , come on you boo boys , what do you think now, feeling pretty silly eh? Come on Milan only another 17 Managers to go.

Bluemoon Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 We are making the classic mistake. We are saying wait until the transfer window, wait until the new players come in, wait, wait!! There is more wrong to the way we are playing than just new players. I still believe it is to do with team spirit, confidence etc, and on that score I'm beginning to think Holloway has hardly made a dent in that deep rooted problem. He has spouted in the press that he has dealt with the wrong players.....but all of us in REAL life know that you do not change team spirit by rollocking people. This transfer window is taking our eyes off the ball, where the real problems are.

This transfer window is taking our eyes off the ball, where the real problems are. Agree 100%. We have a strange situation at Leicester. Some clubs have one or two up and coming young players who are more than happy to be elevated to senior level. We had a champion youth team that has substantially moved forward to or towards first team level. Those ex-Academy players are very close knit. They have played extremely well together and almost always in an attacking pass-and-move system. On the other hand you have higher paid senior professionals coming in and almost every one who arrives effectively displaces a reasonable quality youngster or keeps one from progressing. No problem if the senior player is top quality. But if he's not and if he's getting a big chunk more pay than the youngster then people ask why? Youth players find themselves dropped for an ordinary or sub-standard performance. But senior players get chance after chance no matter how they play and it breeds resentment. Alongside that is the first team playing system which seems so negative. Young players find they're suddenly in a set-up which has eight defenders where previously they marauded forward with eight attackers. If they are passers they suddenly find themselves lacking options. This all emphasises my belief that we need to have a consistent philosophy throughout the club and to be much more careful not to sign senior players who do not fit into that philosophy.
Dr_Fox Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I guess you could call me one of the "boo boys" if you like in that I'm not at all impressed with Holloway's tenure so far. We have had a couple of good results since Holloway came here but in the same way that when the team is playing well you brush off the odd defeat as merely a "blip" this is the same way I'm feeling currently after a good result. Just a "blip" before we return to normality of woeful results/performances like we did today Holloway has done nothing to motivate the players we already have..the performance level and the results have barely improved and given that he's been here for six weeks I would have expected him to have had more of an effect by now I'm sure somebody will say "judge him after the transfer window" but until he came here i always thought that Holloway's managerial talent was as a motivator with a hit and miss record in the transfer marker. Well he's shown to me that he can't motivate so all we're left with now is his hit and miss record in the transfer market; oh joy!
Bluemoon Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 This all emphasises my belief that we need to have a consistent philosophy throughout the club and to be much more careful not to sign senior players who do not fit into that philosophy. Yep, and somewhere we are getting it wrong. A Club's success is almost inevitably cyclical because these very "root" cultures are not dealt with, and in a strange sort of way, any attempt to change it can actually amplify the problems. Hopefully, perhaps Ollie learnt something from his previous job, and the philosophy of that club and their success over a few years under several managers. Although his time down there was brief, he must have learnt something that he can bring to bear on this club. If he didn't, then we're in trouble, because someone has got to change thing and quick. A few million pounds is not going to guarantee our survival the way we are going........
dandannieldanok Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I like Ollie but I have to say his tactics at times baffle me. Firstly starting we three strikers, no matter whether you try to put them in a 4-4-2, goes against what was promised when he arrived. Yes we have literally no other players to fill the winger slots yet but if you're playing 3 strikers, at least put them all up front and play 4-3-3, the fans are fed up with square pegs in round holes. Also throwing Howard on making it four strikers before half time seemed to totally annihilate any form of considered approach. Don't get me wrong I am all for the Howard signing but not when he is used in a jumbled front four where no-one knows who is responsible to get on the end of his headers. We can only really judge come February I suppose but something needs to happen quickly off and on the pitch, because come February we could be well ensconced in the bottom three and face a real struggle to get out.

A few million pounds is not going to guarantee our survival the way we are going........ Spot on about the money. It's been mentioned by others but, while £8m might once have seemed a lot if wisely spent, there are lots of clubs capable of buying big nowadays and, often, those clubs will have better footballing foundations than we have at present.
ibbosuk Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 We're physchologically running scared..... Yep you are correct Thracian, you have hit it in one! But I would go further than that. I think We need a whole new set of players who have a winning "Mentality" Definitions of mentality "A habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations" Ask the players and they will come out with the same line they always fall back on "A lack of confidence", but we all know its far more than that, a big change round in playing staff who all have a totally new winning mentality is the only way forward imo. WHAT WE HAVE AT LCFC ARE DAMAGED GOODS THAT NEED REPLACING!!!!!!!!
