Bluemoon Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 No it doesn't- have you seen Palace's squad?I daresay it says more about Peter Taylor's lack of ability... I must admit your comments regarding Taylor and the Palace team are very accurate......why Palace ever took on Taylor had probably more to do with some old mates thing. It still illustrates my point though of how essential is a proven manager like Warnock.......Moyes at Everton etc. The one proven guy who is not turning his new club around is Allardyce, and that IMHO is due to Newcastle being unhealthy as a club, almost rotten for years (like Leeds ) and everyone feels it. I would prefer to think we still have a problem with obtaining a good proven manager than we do with the essence ofour club.

Martin O'Neill wasn't, look what he did for us . We need one that can motivate players, knows how to pick up decent players in the transfer market, understands the game and knows how to make any changes required to break down the opposition. Ollie so far has managed to get the players motivated, the rest remains to be seen. Think he will do a good job for us though. Ollie's Army.

I would prefer to think we still have a problem with obtaining a good proven manager than we do with the essence ofour club. Our club is beset with players who cannot play well together on a consistent basis, fudged together under more managers than a club normally sees in a decade, with a bunch of deluded fans who think that they know the players and manager better than anyone else, and constantly want another manager once he fails to win a game. This is Leicester. The same team I started supporting in 1980 where we were the only team to do the double over Liverpool, but still went down. We still give the bigger teams a bloody nose, but are hugely inconsistent. The side will take a long time to turn round, and I will not get excited even if we win 6 on the bounce. Everything this season is a foundation to next season, and that is something we have lacked for a few seasons - the stability to build foundations.

This says more about the mentality of the bunny boiling Argyle fans than it does anyone else. Imagine splitting with a gf who behaved like the Plymouth fans... how scary?
CupidStunt Posted 30 December 2007 Author Posted 30 December 2007 just a bit of a stupid one. Sorry mate, next time i will run it by you if thats ok,for your seal of approval like? postcard ok? IMO some fans are so fickle, with memories of a goldfish, and it was only a few weeks back that he was being slated by some Even though we have only took a few steps forward, its a step nevertheless,I unlike some it may seem, try to look on the positive side Come on Ollie, and Come on leicester

But have we taken a few steps forward?........I don't think so............I really don't...we have had 2 home games and played OKish - no more. Like everyone else I have listened to the spin as to how good our rather vocal new manager is at spotting a good player. SO I will be looking at who is brought in, and how they affect the team. After that I think I have the right to give just one opinion of how I think the newbie is doing
Thracian Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 I can't remember anyone booing him or making any serious call for his head. My own stated stance is that he should get til next Christmas whatever. But how can anyone make a case for saying we're playing better? We've tinkered with our system of play but we've been just the same in essence. apart from Bristol City, Cardiff and first half against Wolves we've mostly been boring, cautious, inconsistent and we've lacked the conviction needed to win games we could have won. So far Holloway has looked nothing more nor less than Levein, Kelly, Megson and Worthington managed. Our side lacks so much passing, movement and pace its embarrassing and that has been the case for years. Any side can do some token passing at the start of games. Holloway's managerial achievement over his first 10 League games would probably get us relegated. It's 10 points from 10 games and I reckon you need to better a point a game to stay up. Put another way we've won 10 points out of 30 available and lost 20. In those 10 games we've won just two and have only once at home in five tries. Nothing "better" about that. We've drawn four and lost four and scored a below requirement 10 goals while conceding 12. If any manager would draw satisfaction from that he's easily pleased. I'll praise Holloway when he deserves it. .
Maybes Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 Plenty of people texted into Radio Leicester after Ipswich saying he wasn't the right man for the job. They are just idiots.
Father Ted Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 Just wondering if your thoughts have changed about Ollie?Noticed a while back there were many members on here calling for him to be booted, and that he lost the plot so early on. I might have egg on me face one day,but i have said from the start he is the man for the job,and i am so pleased we are moving in the right direction at last I admit that I was one of those people who didn't want him and I will never be forced to like his personality, I will also not sing Ollie's army but if he brings out some good results then that's all that matters. Although I still believe that his success at Plymouth was down to Gary Penrice.

He THOUGHT he wasn't going to Leicester. Then Milan said he was intersted, he was surprised, and decided to come to Leicester. When he made that comment he wasn't going to Leicester.

When he made that comment he wasn't going to Leicester. A fact that seems lost on most of the Plymouth fans. Another one is he said Plymouth, and not the club.... which means he could have liked the area but thought the club was full of useless W******.

Zingari Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 blabbing to the world and his dog that he was being given a massive transfer budget was a bit stupid can't imagine MM being thrilled about that
Suffolk_fox Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 blabbing to the world and his dog that he was being given a massive transfer budget was a bit stupid can't imagine MM being thrilled about that Not exactly a State Secret....
Daggers Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 blabbing to the world and his dog that he was being given a massive transfer budget was a bit stupid can't imagine MM being thrilled about that You reckon some clubs could carry out a sneaky purchasing programme this winter then? You reckon that because it's not been announced how much QPR have to spend that they'll pick up players cheaper than we will?
Zingari Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 i think a businessman such as MM has done shrewd deals ( including the purchase of leicester city ) . , by not spouting off about the cards he's holding i cannot believe that holloway whooping off about having a premiership sized budget is not going to inflate prices, but maybe you're right, maybe i am being a tad simplistic
Asha Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 I don't agree with this at all, no-one was ever booing Ollie, just criticising him in one way or something. Just because we're not sucking his knob doesn't mean we're booing him.
Zingari Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 yeah , come on you boo boys , what do you think now, feeling pretty silly eh?
Master Fox Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 yeah , come on you boo boys , what do you think now SHIT.
Sly Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I still think he is the right man for the job. The club needs stability and he needs to instill that. We need to do one final clean sweep this January. He's had time to asses what he has and now it's time to cut loose those we don't need. Our playing staff are in chaos, we actually need a squad revamp in many ways but we need to get it right this time and not buy players for the sake of buying players. We need players that fit a system, Holloways system. He just needs to it to work and we'll do okay.
Thracian Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I think Ollie should keep his job til at least next Christmas - exactly as I thought last week. Being fair it didn't sound as if we failed to make any chances today - as has been the case in some previous matches - and it is not Holloway's fault that we failed to take them. However Fryatt's scoring record continues to be awful and one of our problems is that Holloway thinks he's good. His missed chance from four yards today wouldn't have changed the result but it was symptomatic of our situation. We really do need confident front players and people to supply them. Holloway has to show what he really stands for and that's not easy in our predicament because there's no margin for error. We're physchologically running scared. I've consistently said that defensive overload will never enable us to win more than we lose or draw and Holloway needs to appreciate this and make sure we have enough attacking potential. Once he does that - and retains some faith in that approach - I am quite sure we will win more games and, after all, it is winning that counts. He needs also to learn that you can adjust systems as much as you like but you NEVER play square pegs in round holes unless there really is no alternative.
