Hayes Gone on Loan to Northampton

Martin is a done deal.........wide right or left and midfield....Martin preferred Ollie's offer of regular first team football here rather than what he was offered at Plymouth

How do you know this?

Sorry if I've missed something somewhere else.

I hope Bradley Johnson is part of the deal.

I would of thought that had something to do with it, hence the delay, but we shall see. Plenty of other clubs have expressed an interest in him.

I think by sending him out on loan, it shows that Zsolt should be more than good enough to hold down a place in the team. Seems Hayes would be now third choice behind him and Hume, judging by the latest team selections.

I think Hayes looked good when we did play him, especially when Sheehan was playing left back. i thought they proved a good combination together. It will be good for him to get some games under his belt so he will come back a better player.

He's a good young prospect I defo think we should hold onto.

I can't see Johnson coming to us now. He's talked to Leeds after us, we've bid £1.2m for Norris and Olly is talking about three "big" things in the pipeline. I think we've moved on from what I can work out.

From the news I've heard, I think the Johnson deal is as good as dead. He'd have signed by now IMO.

Good luck to Hayes. I personally would have the kept the lad until we were rock solid in that position, but I'm sure he'll do well for Northampton.

I hope he plays for city again, he showed glimpses of talent, and with some experience (as this is his first season playing out of the QPR acadamy). He may well be a good player in the future. But he might do what a lot of our young players do and turn out to be crap. We'll have to wait and see.

Not unhappy about that. He was a lightweight footballer. He reminded me of a faulty firework - he'd flare briefly then go out.

Even in the reserves his good moments would be ruined by clumsy passes and an inability to see 90 minutes through.

He was injury prone and didn't seem quite to have the pace or strength necessary for Championship football.

Might do okay for Northampton if he stays fit and motivated but he was never going to be an answer for us.

He certainly has the pace for championship football, maybe not stamina.

I'm concerned because at a time when he'll need some patience and encouragement he'll be exposed out there on the flank next to an anxious crowd who will be quick to jump on his every mistake, just as they've done with Stearman, Sheehan and Porter.

Very few of Leicester's outfield players escape the wrath of the fans and none of them really play on the outside of the pitch.

The centre-backs plus Fryatt, Clemence, Hume and Weso are the least targetted - all players who are mainly to be found down the middle of the team where they are not seen in so much detail and where the crowd's baying doesn't so easily get to them anyway.

Stearman deserves his criticism started brightly but has performed badly for quite some time, a few good performances recently makes me hope he putting 100% into his performances again. I think a lot of the slating he gets is because people know he is capable of player better.

Porter is very average, i've never really slated him as I've never expected much from him. Sheehan has a great dead ball skills but isn't a particularly solid defender

Clemence certainly is getting slated on here recently as is Fryatt. The defense was playing very well when Fulop was in goal so didn't really deserve critism (don't think Stearman or Sheehan were being slated then either)

You talk a lot of sense generally, even in this post but think this central area talk is a bit misleading

I'm a bit suprised by this - okay, he's not really looked like an ideal starter, which is what we need most, but he's always looked like a positive substitution to me and with the only other player in that position who isn't out for the season yet to make his debut, it seems somewhat premature to be sending him out, even if he could do with the experience.

Northampton capture Foxes winger

Northampton Town have signed Leicester's Republic of Ireland Under-21 winger Jonathan Hayes on loan for the rest of the season.

Hayes, 20, has made seven appearances for Leicester since joining the Championship club from Reading.

Northampton boss Stuart Gray told his club's website: "He is a player I have known since his time at Reading and I have kept tabs on him.

"He is an attacking wide-left player with a lot of pace."

Dublin-born Hayes has previously had spells on loan Forest Green Rovers, Chesterfield and MK Dons.

Gray added: "He has good ability going forward and can cause problems for defenders. I think he will be a good addition to the squad."

Northampton Town loanee Jonathan Hayes has been told by Leicester City manager Ian Holloway that his future lies at the Foxes. Hayes enjoyed a good debut in Town's 1-1 draw with Hartlepool, alongside three other players who are at Sixfields on temporary deals.

None of them is expected to join the Cobblers on a permanent basis, but Hayes refused to completely rule out leaving the Walkers Stadium, citing the uncertain nature of the game.

"Obviously I would like to make a name for myself at Championship level and at the highest level possible," said the Irish winger.

"I've still got another two years left on my contract at Leicester and Ian Holloway has spoken to me and said he wants me there next season, but you never know what could happen. You can't ever predict the future in football."

Hayes' time at Leicester has been punctuated not only by injury but by the managerial changes at the club – he was signed by Martin Allen, who was replaced by Gary Megson, himself then replaced by current boss Holloway.

The situation hasn't helped his quest for first-team football which has been limited as the club has struggled at the wrong end of the Championship.

"I went there, and got injured in pre-season. I'd just become fit for the first game of the season and then I got injured again, so that put me out for the best part of three and a half months," said Hayes.

"When I came back it was hard to get in the team because Gary Megson had changed formation, so I was stuck in the reserves and playing in the youth team for the best part of a month.

"Then Ian Holloway has come in and said he wanted to have a look at everybody, his view on that is that I need to get out and play some league football and get some experience, preferably as a winger.

"He knows Stuart Gray quite well and he thought this would be a great opportunity for me. It has been a bit difficult at Leicester, because I'm young they like me coming off the bench, and it was good to make a start last Saturday."

Basically Holloway saying "go out and do your best, son" and if it turns out to be better than you've shown so far then maybe we'll consider things again.

Loans are more often than not the kiss of death for a player. Hayes has much to prove.

Hasn't Gradel, Dodds and Odihmbo (spelling) gone out on loan? For young players i'm not sure I agree it is a kiss of death, Hayes is another young player who needs experience.

Going out on loan didn't do Beckham that much harm...

Anyone from Northampton want to offer something other than conjecture? What did it say in the Chron?

My mate who's a Northampton Town season ticket holder was far from impressed...

I'll be amazed if Hayes makes a Championship career for himself at Leicester.

We have Laczko and, assuming he returns safely from injury we've got Porter. Then there's anyone else the club decides to buy before Hayes returns.

For Hayes to break through he will have to:

a) Prove himself far more durable than he has so far.

b) Stop being so easily pushed off the ball.

c) Show himself able to play for 90 minutes.

d) Have much greater general effect on games.

I wish him luck.
