Leicester Lass Posted 25 January 2008 Posted 25 January 2008 Might make the trip over for this. Have a bash down on the range first as well
Thracian Posted 25 January 2008 Posted 25 January 2008 Sounds like the perfect way to wind up an afternoon round.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 Anyone going tomorrow?? I might wander down.
Thracian Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 Anyone going tomorrow??I might wander down. I thought it clashed with a reserves game but that seems to have been scheduled for 2-00pm, presumably to allow all involved to attend both functions. That being the case I may well go.
skinnydipper Posted 7 February 2008 Author Posted 7 February 2008 I went.Ollie spoke well and with passion. He opened the evening with a brief account of his life and career. He said that his wife said that he was obsessed with three things beginning with F . Food and football were two of them and he left us to draw our own conclusions about the other one. Of interest The players need to understand and have more pride in the badge i.e play as if they were fans We tried to sign Lee Martin and David Norris. Fergie told Martin to go to Sheff Utd (Bryan Robson connection). Plymouth got £2.5 m for Norris with a massive add-on if Ipswich get promoted. We couldn't realitically match that although Norris wanted to come to us and the fans would have loved him He plays exactly the same home and away Some of our players seem to be unable to perform as well away from home Kisnorbo and McAuley are becoming more vocal but we need more leaders on the pitch We are burdened by the mistakes made in signings and contract length and pay before Ollie came to the club.It is difficult to move our players on because their contracts with us are so good. On deadline day we accepted an offer for one of our players from a Championship club below us. The player discussed terms with the club but decided to stay asthe buying club couldn't match his contract with us and the player would have had to accept a sizeable drop in income. Ollie didn't name the player but my guess is Fryatt to Preston. Had a 5-a-side game in training .Goalies v right backs. Goalies won. (I think it was a joke but point well made) Good crop of youngsters.Impressed with Stearman who responded well to a talk with Ollie before Christmas. Future position as centre back.Accepted James Chambers not had an opportunity to prove himself yet. Some youngsters getting great experience via loans e.g Gradel Mattock's a lovely lad . Loves playing for Leicester. Will make mistakes given his age. With Clapham in he will play left midfield more until end of season Experienced left back would not have made Mattock's mistake at Blackpool but Ollie was really disappointed by criticism to Joe from three senior pros

Fryatts contract probabley isn't that good he was signed when we were struggling for money.
Uncle Albert Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Dunno. Fryatts contract probabley isn't that good he was signed when we were struggling for money. How much did we pay for Fryatt?
skinnydipper Posted 7 February 2008 Author Posted 7 February 2008 And finally He's impressed with Paul Aldridge The pitch is poor because we failed to get some work done in the summer which would have cost about £30,000. This will be done in the summer but we're stuck with the condition of the pitch until then The job is harder than anticipated but things are improving Overall a good evening. I was impressed by Ollie. He was passionate and has a strong desire to succeed. Only 50 or so people in attendance so there's a good chance you can put your question to the manager. May see some of you at the next one.

skinnydipper Posted 7 February 2008 Author Posted 7 February 2008 Dunno. Fryatts contract probabley isn't that good he was signed when we were struggling for money. You got any thoughts on who it might be? By the way, p13 of City v Palace programme there is a Players Charities article. The charity is " Pablo's Horse Sanctuary" Surely not an extra earner making glue? Can't think why Rab Douglas is pictured in the article about a place for old horses put out to grass
skinnydipper Posted 7 February 2008 Author Posted 7 February 2008 Is it Finland? That's it. What a relief. I thought it was Filippino ladyboy

BedsFox Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Quite an insight. Thanks for posting that. The feedback from a friend of mine who went was as follows "Basically IH said there are real problems at the club,he said MM is very difficult to work with(no surprise there) and that he virtually forced Tim Davies to quit by laying into him in front of others.MM is always trying to sign players that IH has no interest in.(altough we are supposed to be getting Scott Sinclair on loan, something MM has sorted with Avram Grant) IH said there are problems with the players,Hume is a major disruption with a big ego problem,Ngotty refuses to play at left back.He said at Plymouth he had 11 lads that would play for the badge,at Leicester the players are more interested about what car they are driving than playing for the badge. On Saturday Mattock made an error for Blackpool's winner and 3 players had a go at Mattock in the changing room! IH layed into those 3 on Monday. The Hungarian winger thinks he has made it after the crowd gave him a good reception on his debut! Incredibly Rab Douglas is on £25k a week!! IH said some of the contracts are unbelievable.A championship club below us (maybe Preston) put in an excellent offer for one player (maybe Fryatt) but he wouldn't go because of his contract at Leicester. IH wanted to sign David Norris,he said Norris was very keen to come, his girlfriend lives in Peterboro, but the deal with Ipswich was for £2.5m plus another £2.5 if Ipswich go up!!

Some major bits there, interesting how skinnydipper, who says he was actually there rather than hearing stuff second-hand, didn't mention these points in his analysis as I don't think you'd forget them. I'm inclined to think you/your friend is bending the truth somewhat

Tommy G Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 could be. I merely copied and pasted the email I receivedIn other parts, the feedback is identical I struggle to believe the 25k thats Douglas is on a week. One of the partners at my work i friendly with some of the top brass at city and he said Douglas was on 7K a week, with Wycombe only paying 500 towards his wages each week.
Ric Flair Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 could be. I merely copied and pasted the email I receivedIn other parts, the feedback is identical All of that might be true, but i'd be amazed if Holloway is foolish enough to tell 50 blokes he doesn't know that Mandaric is a nightmare to work with and there are big problems at the club. That would very easily get back to Mandaric and unless Holloway is looking for a way out of here, he'd be making his job security very precarious.

Lets allow for some embellishment. don't shoot the messenger! (well not just yet anyway )
skinnydipper Posted 7 February 2008 Author Posted 7 February 2008 Ollie did say N'gotty doesn't want toplay left back and that Hume sulks if asked to play right midfield instead of as a striker.Ollie knows of Mandaric's reputation. He said he is enthusiastic, energetic and ambitious. He has high expectations and is not happy if we don't win.Ollie has some doubts as to whether Sinclair will come but there are ongoing discussions involving Mandaric and Grant. He said we really need a player who beats other players. My overall impression was that Olllie thought Milan "suggested" a lot of players to him but that the final decision was Ollies. A goalie (can't remember the name )was suggested. Ollie said no because of his injury record and we brought in Alnwick. That said, I wasn't too sure how much he knew about the Oakley deal in advance. He clearly thinks that our players are very well paid especially in relation to the teams lack of achievement in recent seasons but I don't recall him saying what any specifiuc player earnt

I'm very happy that you bought my club. We may not exist without you. But please, please will you stop trying to buy players for fvck sake. Remember last summer when your manager let you do that? Well thats why we are where we are.

Sounds like a sodding mess all round. But Holloway will get nowhere having a go at his players in public, or the chairman. With managers it is only what you do that matters and it sounds to me like the sooner he ditches some of our seniors the better. As for Hume he's bloody lucky to be here. Yes he's our leading scorer again, but in a lousy team, and his general contribution is far more effort than artistry. I don't know which senior pro's had a go at Mattock but I can't think of any seniors, apart from Fulop before he left, who have not dropped big bricks this season and who've not had a fairly indifferent campaign all round. Clapham made exactly the same error against Coventry Reserves. So what? Mistakes will be made. It didn't make Clapham a lousy player and it doesn't make Mattock one either. In fact I might have asked where the cover was for Mattock and why was it so late arriving? Yet what did Holloway do in the match? Took Mattock off. I said at the time it was the wrong thing to do. I'd have left him on, encouraged him to learn and made damn sure the players around him helped cos, next time, it would be them needing the back up and encouragement. That's not to excuse Mattock. A focused mentality is important. But you've got to have a clan spirit in a football team. All for one, one for all. That goes for the manager and the chairman too both in relation to the team and the club generally. You attack as a team, defend as a team and when something goes wrong, or someone's having a bad day, it's a collective responsibility to get the situation put right. As for Mandaric he just doesn't seem to learn. He's primarily responsible for the unity of purpose we need yet we never seem united at all.
