Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock joked that Leicester City celebrated like they had won the World Cup after ending his side's 15-game unbeaten run last night.

Forward Barry Hayles won a scrappy game when he bundled in the only goal in the 89th minute to inflict a first away defeat for the Eagles under Warnock.

The 1-0 win gave City their first back-to-back league victories at the Walkers Stadium since August 2006 when they beat Ipswich and Southend under Robert Kelly.

It brought the City bench to its feet and sent Blue Army fans in a crowd of 21,764 home happy.

Warnock said: "We are disappointed to lose it. You saw what it meant to Leicester, you'd have thought they had won the World Cup."

Palace had been undefeated in the league in their previous 15 games, a run that stretched back to the end of October.

Warnock felt City did not deserve to end the run.

He said: "I don't think they deserved it. But I don't think that either team deserved it.

"It was two strong defences and it was going to be a mistake or a goal like that to win it. The lad (Hayles) didn't know much about it but we have had one or two like them over the last few weeks.

"The pitch was very poor - it was not good enough for any good football. It's disappointing when you lose so close to the end of the game."

He added: "I thought we tried to pass it as best we could. We knew that they would knock it long to Steve Howard and get the scraps. We scrapped well but we made a mistake and it cost us dearly."

Warnock was critical of Tyne and Wear referee Eddie Ilderton, claiming he failed to give protection to his forward James Scowcroft.

The Palace boss said: "The officials were the worst team out there. Leicester almost committed manslaughter on Scowcroft and every throw-in was given the wrong way.

"But one run has come to an end, and it's important we kick on and go again."

Scowcroft, meanwhile, said there were still plenty of points available for both sides to be part of the play-off shake-up.

Palace remain fifth after the defeat but the three points moved City up five places to 15th in the Championship.

And Scowcroft, who played 147 times during nearly four years at City, said: "Some two or three months ago, we were second from bottom of the league and now we are in the play-offs. There's still a lot to play for.

"We weren't going to go the whole season unbeaten. It's a very competitive league with little between the teams.

"Leicester are a steady side. They have a lot of new players and it's taken them time to gel but I am sure they will climb the league now."

I notice that Warnock failed to mention that very early in the game WE should have had a penalty for Scowcroft pulling and pushing Mcauley all over the place!!

To be fair...the pitch was rubbish, and we didn't deserve it.

That is telling it straight isn't it?

True..i had forgotten that incident!

The only thing wrong with the throwins was there were too fooking many of them. Did all the players have bets on because it looked like they were kicking heading the ball out on purpose.

Don't be too hard on yourself.

Wasn't me who wanted the whinging little sh!t here. Others did though..

Yes, but he conveniently forgets Scowcrofts forearm smash on McAuley in which had the shirts been swopped, or the role reversed, the Leicester player would of been taking an early bath.

I wouldn't of minded him to be honest.

I guess you'd prefer Rob "Excuse" Kelly. At least he doesn't winge. He makes up some cracking excuses.

It would be hilarious had he ended up here.

There would be SO many people crawling up his arse if we were on a run like Palace.

WHAT ?! Warnock has just made around 50 excuses why his team lost ! Not his fault or the team. Its everyone elses fault. We played on the same pitch he should remember and played the same kind of football. Was a shit game and we won.

If he would have came i would have backed him from the start but he is just a moaning excuse making twat.

Yeah, I see what you mean. But it's just that little thing that Warnock does that Kelly doesn't. Get results.

More often than not Warnock tells it how it is, but people just don't see past it because he's a "****"

I agree with you, Warnock is better then kelly no denying that but he normally does get his team playing and winning. He does say alot of thing what has alot of truth in but then goes on rants where you just think shut up you moaning old twat.

I would have had him though instead of Allen though. Even with what he has said in the past. The man is a very good manager but is such a tit in the way he goes around his buissness. Abit like Sav to be honest, rather have him on your team then against you.

I actually think the officials did have a shit game last night, but Warnock deliberately decided to highlight the "manslaughter" of Scowey just because he knew full well Scowcroft should have given away a penalty and then been sent off for use of elbow, because he knows he'll get a reaction. That's what he does.

And to think some folk on here wanted to witness this whinging on a regular basis..

i think some people wanted the 15 game unbeaten run on a regular basis!

But seriously though... its such a bad comment to say the pitch was terrible because both teams had to play on it...

He said they didn't play well and they didn't deserve to win, what more do you want?

'Yeah, we were 15 games unbeaten so I really expected us to hammer these wankers, but we played shit and i'm going to fine every one of our players. They're not fit to wear the shirt.'

Could have said just wasn't our day ... Ched was pointing out how Rob Kelly made excuses and i just said that Warnock does aswell. Just he blames everyone but him and his team.
