Maybes Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 What is it with Sunderland and paying very large transfer fees for mediocre to good championship players?! Andy Reid being the latest in a deal thought to be worth 4million!!

If you've got it, flaunt it. Did Chelsea really need to spend 30 million on Shevchenko? Your right though, £4m for Reid is a little pricey.

lildave3 Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 I'd be more worried about the 4/5 million rumoured for this Paterson fellow.
MC Prussian Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 He's spent over 50 million on that shower! To be fair, it looks like they're going to stay up there - can't see Fulham, Wigan and Derby pose much of threat.
Joe. Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 They've got to stay up with what they've spent. But it's got to be worth it if they do. The money in the Premiership nowadays is ludicrous.
Benji Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Unfortunately for teams like Sunderland, Brilliant - Average Premiership quality players will not want to go there So they have to pitch away at Championship's ''best'' and foreigners. Any club in their right mind would see Sunderland coming and stick a few million extra on the price tag, especially in the january transfer window when they are desparate for a safe end to the season.

A better buy than Stephen Hunt though... If Sunderland stay up, they could be the top side in the North East within a couple of seasons. They have some quality players in their squad (eg Richardson, Jones). It's just a question of keeping them fit.
joely22 Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 The amount of money Keane has spent is an absolute joke. The way the bloke goes about his transfers is a joke aswell, you lot have first hand experience of it with the Fulop / Stephen Hunt price lark. The bloke really is a ****. As shit as we are, I can see them being in the same division next season, just a whole lot worse off. £50million hes spent compared to our £10million, all to be in the same division next season. Yeah, they'll be in a better position than us in regards to standard of players (most of the division will) but for an extra £40million, I don't know whether I'd want to be in that place. Yeah, he has some good players in his squad, Kenwyne Jones and Kieran Richardson are good players, Premiership class players but do you really see them playing for a Championship club next season? Well, maybe they will if Keane out prices other clubs, which is likely. He's signed some absolute garbage aswell. Andy Reid for £4million, give me a break. Paul McShane, crap player. Anthony Stokes, signed on reputation and has done **** all. Chopra for £5million. And that's just a handful of players. He's wasted money big time, I think they'll pay the price in the long run.

Simi Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 Sunderland are going to be shafted sooner rather than later, should they be relegated. Quinn is as much to blame as Keane in all this.
