purpleronnie Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 video Always liked Northern Soul but never really got into the whole scene despite a lot of fellow mods really delving into it. I always thought the northern soul music had less depth than other sould music. But I have to admit I do like this song, and its great to see the dancers all modded up. Sure beats listening to those terrible emo bands. But I'm biased.
Webbo Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Not bad, sounds like it'll grow on me. I love Northern Soul music without being into the scene, they take all a bit too serious for me. If anyone's curious there're usually compilation albums for sale in supermarkets for £4/£5.
Head Honcho Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 It's a very good song but it is not Northern Soul. This is Northern Soul! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=09s8_5plGWM http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zkpenzFNbpk ...................and for all Wigan old timers the last record ever played at Wigan Casino. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=22dmt3pzmZw&...feature=related
Webbo Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 This is Northern Soul!http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zkpenzFNbpk That track is on every compilation going.Love it.
Head Honcho Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 That track is on every compilation going.Love it. Some purists would call it Motown but it's Northern for me You wanna subscribe to Ian Levine on youtube he's got some pearlers on there. He goes over to the states and videos the original artists singing their tracks on tape for the first time from the comfort of their own home.

It certainly has been influenced by NS.

Chromophobia Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 I thought this song was ok when I first heard it, but it's being played to death and now it just really annoys me. I think it's a pretty cynical attempt to cash in on the success of amy winehouse too. Would she be doing this if there wasn't a lot of hype over this kind of music right now and a 'market' for it. Kind of makes it hard to like the music when you know it's just being made to sell as a product dunt'it?
The People's Hero Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 People keep telling me that my girlfriend looks like Duffy. Personally I think she looks like a pig (Duffy, not my girlfriend) so I disagree. Also, her music is shit.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 People keep telling me that my girlfriend looks like Duffy. Personally I think she looks like a pig (Duffy, not my girlfriend) so I disagree. Also, her music is shit. Yes, but can your girlfriend sing? Also, would Dover Sole be Southern Sole? (Damn, that doesn't work so well when you type it )
The People's Hero Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 Yes, but can your girlfriend sing? Also, would Dover Sole be Southern Sole? (Damn, that doesn't work so well when you type it ) Actually, yeah she can. She's had a few recording contracts as it goes, but never went through with it, favouring to do dancing (not the sort you're thinking!). I'm encouraging her to get back in to it.
Nationwider Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 I liked Rockferry. Not a fan of Mercy though. These types always come along post-Christmas in the "New for 2008!!!!" category. Hair-sprayed and airbrushed for T4, Jo Whiley and the V Festival. She's got a good voice, but I think's she's to Northern Soul what Thora Hird was to bricklaying.
