Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Someone phoned 606 on Radio 5 yesterday evening and pointed out that Giggs and Ronaldo weren't wearing black armbands in the 2nd half of the match. So I watched MotD with more than the usual scrutiny and it was true! Giggs was wearing his captain's armband, but not the memorial one and Ronaldo had no armband at all. Everyone else had them on all through the match, including all the Man City players. All week there was talk of "idiots" from Man City spoiling the rememberence and it was the over-paid idiots on the pitch who let everyone else down. Personally I don't think it's a big thing EXCEPT that MU hyped it so much and then it was their players who essentially, at best, "forgot". Also reports of MU fans flogging their commerative scarves (which were either given away or dirty cheap, not quite sure which) on E-bay. Why are so many MU fans complete knobs?! I've always had the utmost admiration for Man City fans since they went down to the old 3rd Division and were still getting 30,000 crowds regular as clockwork. Would LOVE to see the rats leaving the sinking ship if that ever happened to Utd. But it won't.

Nobody spoiled it apart from some chavs outside setting off fireworks. I think your clutching at straws a bit

I have one I don't think any of the united fans at the ground even noticed they were even wearing them and anyone would have been annoyed if one player had taken it off or forgotten to put it back on. i thought both sets of fans were magnificent yesterday. Most of what you posted is trivial and pointless

Nobody spoiled it apart from some chavs outside setting off fireworks. I think your clutching at straws a bit I would like to offer the benefit of the doubt. Can anyone who might have it recorded see if they had them on when they came out (cos if they lost them in the 1st half, common sense says replace them (and yes I know, common sense - premiership footballers ) As for the fireworks, someone commented was Chinese New Year yesterday and the ground is right next to Manchester's Chinatown.

Again, perhaps at half time they didn't realise they had come off, or they didnt have replacements? Plenty of possibilities. Your original post about lack of respect is tosh though. Ryan Giggs for one strikes me as a seasoned professional footballer and I doubt he wouldn't wear it out of respect. As for Ronaldo I honestly think it was the case that it came off? I think you were perhaps looking for an excuse to slate Man Utd, their loss at home to their bitter rivals should be enough ammunition really to vent your fury.

Subs had armbands, could have swapped and club made how many millions profit last year and can't afford spare armbands? Like I say, it's no biggy except all the hype THEY built up. You can't hype something that much and not be faultless. What I'm saying is they made a rod for their own back. As for whether MU played well or not, I really couldn't give a monkeys, I'm a Leicester fan

But it won't. agree with u personally. armbands don't 'fall off' as some have suggested. utd have been bigging this up for a good 3 weeks and the sceptical side of me thinks it's shameless self promotion. for them to bang on about showing respect and then not do their part 100% (Ferguson also took his off) is a bit of a piss take imo.

This just goes to show that the world is full of retards. You could have bought a match ticket, the programme, the scarf and about 100 quid travel costs for about 200-250 nicker. Absolute fooking madness.

Sparky Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 That can't be genuine, surely? yea , not just that 1 , £800 , £1120 loads on there
Asha Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 yea , not just that 1 , £800 , £1120 loads on there Overpriced tbh. But it is the 50th year. Maybe this is the last time it will be properly remembered. At the end of the day we can't remember for ever. We don't all remember and have minutes silences for the casualties of the Battle of Hastings, or on the day Queen Victoria died. I was thinking this on September 11 as there's still a big thing about 'remembering' it. Really tragic as it may be, there comes a time where it's best to leave it as memories instead of official silences and stuff.

We could invite French people over here to beat us up and then everyone has to speak in reeeediculooouz aczents (Monty Python style). Great fun - TAKE THAT SAXON SCUM!
Babylon Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Maybe this is the last time it will be properly remembered. At the end of the day we can't remember for ever. They can when there is money to be made
DB11 Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 That can't be genuine, surely? Read it in the paper this morning that people were registering bogus bids of thousands of pounds (never intending to pay) so that the sellers could not profit from the event. eBay have now removed them, citing that they do not allow people to "profit from human tragedy"
