RowlattsFox Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 I've just seen in The Sun that us, Leeds and Southampton are trying to sign him. I know its only The Sun and its not likely to happen but what do people think of this?
Ric Flair Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 I must say, i've seen Stuart Campbell play in excess of 30 times with us and other clubs and there hasn't been many games when i've been un-impressed. I always thought it was the effect O'Neill had on our team that allowed players like Campbell and Wilson to perform relatively well in the Premiership, when it became evident that they weren't up to that level when they went elsewhere. But Campbell has always been a very steady player at all the clubs he's been at and his performance against Southampton the other week was superb. I'd rather have him in our midfield than some of the shitters who've played for us in recent years.

Who are the other 2 players in your sig? Savo is one but the other 2 are bugging me.

Simon Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Hmmm. He must be nearly 30 now and he hasn't exactly set the world alight in League One these past few seasons. He's a tidy, useful player but I can't see him being used as anything other than back-up here...
ASH17LCFC Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Did ok when we had him and plus he was trying to get in a side with the likes of Izzet, Lennon and Parker. Wouldn't mind him back to be honest. Seems a very neat and tidy player with abit of flair.
Darkzzz_ Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 He is at the standard he is bet at right now, i don't think he would cut it any higher now!!
CupidStunt Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Would be a step backwards if there is such a thing with leicester city,so it would be a waste of time and not what we need here.
Staf Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Well he seems to be having a good season and looked good against southampton in the fa cup we should sign him he needs to prove he is good enough for the chapionship sign him up
Jack Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Would be a bad move IMO. I just think he simply wouldn't be good enough at this level.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 If we're looking at Premier League for the future (I know avoiding relagation is a prioity first!) then we have to be looking at Premier League level players - Campbell isn't this in my opinion. Living in Bristol, Rovers fans are appreciating his work, but then Craig Disley is doing an equally good job in the Rovers midfield, but Campbell got the plaudits for the TV game. One Rovers player that may be worth looking at though is Danny Coles - excellent centre back that lost his way with Hull, but is getting back on track.
ceebeefox Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 He is what Ian Holloway said he was after when he signed Oakley, a box to box energetic midfielder . We have slumped so far down now that he may well perk up the midfield. Anyone who went to Cov would surely see that both our centre mids did not stray out of the centre circle after the brief first ten minute attacks (if you could call it that). I think we are suffering now because Ollies new signings lack hunger are too old and are used to losing. We need to find our own stars again from winning sides in the lower leagues ala Lennon, Savage, Elliott. If anyone saw the M K Dons v Swansea game last night , A) There were at least 6 players per side that could light up the Walkers on energy alone. B) The standard looked no worse to me than an average championship game. I feel outside the prem many sides in all divisions are close and there are diamonds out there.

Campbell, a box to box midfielder with fewer goals to his name than James 'I'm always injured' Wesolowski this season?
ceebeefox Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Campbell, a box to box midfielder with fewer goals to his name than James 'I'm always injured' Wesolowski this season? Well he was when he was a kid ( played a lot down the right wing too). His lack of goals wouldn't bother me too much but if he no longer can get beyond the useless lump that is Howard , (as Izzet used to regularly do and the young Campbell) and create , then , no thanks find someone else. One thing is certain though we are so easy to mark and stop playing now that if we dont change it we're down.
norfolkfox222 Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 Sounds like we are gearing up for League 1 !!!!!
