DannyLCFC1 Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Mercury HENDRIE SET FOR CITY LOAN MOVE Be the first reader to comment on this story BY BILL ANDERSON WWW.THEBLUEARMY.CO.UK 10:30 - 28 February 2008 Leicester City were today set to sign former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie on loan from Sheffield United for the rest of the season. The ex-England international has been allowed by new Blades boss Kevin Blackwell to leave Bramall Lane. Hendrie, 30, is believed to have been withdrawn from the United squad for their FA Cup fifth-round replay defeat by Middlesbrough at the Riverside last night, following which Blackwell revealed on BBC Radio that Hendrie was on his way to City to start his loan. Once the formalities are completed, Hendrie, who has played mostly on the left-side of midfield during his career, will be available for City's Championship trip to face Cardiff at Ninian Park on Saturday.< City boss Ian Holloway said: ?Lee has a quality that will add to our ranks and he had a good season at Stoke last year. He can unlock a door and will help our team. I spoke to him yesterday and he is a highly-motivated invididual who will add to the group. In my eyes, he can play wide left and in the middle, as well as wide right, and I look forward to working with him.? Hendrie was a Bryan Robson signing for Sheffield United on a free transfer last summer following his release from Villa, where he emerged through the youth ranks and made more than 250 appearances over a total of 11 seasons. During that time, he won a solitary England cap, against the Czech Republic in November 1998, and was a member of the Villa side beaten 1-0 in the 2000 FA Cup final by Chelsea. The Birmingham-born midfielder, who is the son of former Birmingham City player Paul Hendrie, had two spells on loan at Stoke City last season, playing 26 games in total, but joined the Blades in the summer on a three-year deal. This season, he has made 14 appearances for the Bramall Lane club, including five as a substitute, scoring twice and picking up five yellow cards. If the deal goes through, Hendrie would become City's eighth new arrival since the transfer window opened in January, and the fifth on loan, for manager Ian Holloway who is eager to boost the squad for the vital run-in which, he is convinced, will see City safe. With 12 games left this season, Hendrie's combative play could be a vital ingredient in the battle to stay up.

Dr The Singh Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 I want to know when Jason Koumas (loan) is going through. I spoke to the bank yesterday, and his credit rating isn't good enough, so his loan application is going to be rejected, so the Butlins holiday is off, for now!!
davieG Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008
Hendrie Deal Done
Posted on: Thu 28 Feb 2008Leicester City today completed the signing of Lee Hendrie from Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season. The 30-year-old playmaker becomes Ian Holloway's eighth signing since arriving at the Club in November and goes straight into the squad to face Cardiff City at Ninian Park on Saturday afternoon. The former England international joined the Blades on a three-year deal at the start of the season after an impressive 14-year stint at Aston Villa. Hendrie also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Stoke City last season - where he played 28 games and scored on three occasions. City boss Ian Holloway said: "Lee has a quality that Leicester City want in their ranks. He had a great season while on loan with Stoke last year and he is a player that can unlock a door for us. He will help the team. "I spoke to him on Wednesday and he is a very motivated individual. That is a trait that I like. He will add to the group. "In my eyes he can play wide left, centre midfield and wide right. I am really looking forward to working with him." Hendrie made his senior debut for the Villains in December 1995 and went on to have a glittering career at Villa Park. He was a big part of the England under 21 set up during his youth - receiving 19 caps at that level. He also has one full cap for his country to his name. All in all Hendrie made an impressive 251 Premiership appearances for Villa, scoring 27 goals. He joined Stoke City on loan in September 2006 and became an instant hit with the Potters fans. He was recalled to Villa for a brief period in January 2007, but joined up with Tony Pullis' men once again on transfer deadline day until the end of the season. Hendrie's contract with Villa ended that summer, and Sheffield United won the race to his signature in July. He has made 14 starts for the Blades to date, scoring on two occasions. He has been handed the number 35 shirt by Foxes boss Holloway.
