No matter who we buy, and what their track record is the ability of our players in front of goal always seems to deteriorate once we have signed them or they have been called into our first team squad. I am beginning to get the feeling that no matter who we buy they will not manage to score goals in a Leicester shirt and the standard of the coaching is the only reasonable explanation for this. I simply refuse to believe that all five of our first team strikers have lost their bottle.
AyewJoking Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 Probably isnt a coach. They perhaps have 10 minutes at the end of training shooting at the keepers similar to what they do as part of the pre match warm up. With Mike Stowell - GOALKEEPING COACH in charge.
Thracian Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 I've mentioned before that we need a specialist striker/attacking coach and if we haven't got one, which may well be the case, considering all the things our attackers are not doing, then it's another factor in why we're suffering.
davieG Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 Based on Ollie's book I would say it was Penrice, well he certainly was given credit for the improvement of some of Ollie's previous failing strikers. Mind you as head of recrutment maybe he no longer has time to do it.

Its just interesting that the situation has been like that for several years and under many different regimes. We haven't scored a lot of goals under any manager. Levein, Kelly, Worthington, Megson, Burrows, Holloway... No matter what we change nothing is working. Its an unbelievable situation.

Its also interesting that the last successful Manager we had (Martin O'Neill) never actually took training. It was his coaches who organised everything and MON just watched and made the Managment desicions, like at Man United I suppose. Since then we have been 'blessed' with a series of Coaches who have attempted to make the grade in Managment but have struggled to both Manage and coach at the same time.

Gary Penrice works with the strikers as he was a striker in his career. Whether he is a great coach or not i don't know.

Since then we have been 'blessed' with a series of Coaches who have attempted to make the grade in Managment but have struggled to both Manage and coach at the same time. It's a good point. Familiarity breeds contempt. Having a manager who's in the distance but there when it matters can be very effective. Clough was just the same. It gives them a presence. Of course they need to be successful to get away with it but, in the end you need to be successful with any approach to survive.

Hence why maybe we ought to hang on to Ollie and try and change something else... like the backroom staff... or at least get other coaches in to train the team more efficiently.
