<Holloway: We've Got To Stick Together

Posted on: Sat 22 Mar 2008

Ian Holloway sent out a message to the club's supporters following Leicester's 2-0 defeat to Hull at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday.

A massive 30,374 fans turned up on the day - easily City's biggest crowd of the season to date.

But goals from Dean Marney and substitute Caleb Folan would send the Blue Army home disappointed.

Holloway said: "I hope and pray that you, the supporters, never fall out of love with Leicester - and I don't think you ever will. We have had some terrible times and that was awful today.

"But these lads need you. You were unbelievable today - I have to say that.

"Some days you come up against teams that are simply better than you. Today, Hull were better than us and that hurts. We take one step forward and then one step back, but that was as far backwards as I ever want to be because I didn't enjoy that at all.

"When Hendo made that fantastic save from the penalty you nearly ripped the roof off. But we didn't kick on from that on the pitch. They then scored a second and that has murdered us.

"I understand how you all feel and we now need to do something about it when we come up against S****horpe next week.

"I think we have let down one of the best crowds I have ever seen today. I would say that only one or two of my players played as well as they can. They were unrecognisable to the team that played last Saturday. I saw us make wrong choices and I saw us play the wrong pass. We lost the ball in key areas and I saw very good players look unbelievably average.

"That's very difficult to take when you are playing in front of such a big crowd who are totally behind you. All you want to do is please them but we haven't done that today.

"We knew that we were up against a half decent side in a good run of form, but I felt that we had turned the corner last week. We have looked confident and upbeat all week but we didn't create what we needed to on the day.

"I think that too many of the players are thinking about the wrong things. How many times did I see my midfield players look hurried and lose the ball? Last week they had all the time in the world and they looked composed.

"At the end of the game some of you were singing 'what a load of rubbish' and that is exactly what I felt. It's difficult to fathom. Confidence drains away so quickly with this group - it is quite amazing.

"But we have got to stick together. We need you again against S****horpe next week and I am sure, with your help, we can get out of this mess that we are in."

Well i guess he speaks the truth? i'd have got pissed off if he would have said something that clearly wasn't shown today...

What else is the bloke supposed to say? He doesn't get any points in my book for saying this but he doesn't lose any either. Let's be reasonable. He's not telling porkies and he's not promised to "redouble our efforts on the training ground" or any of the shit we've had from other managers.

Didnt think there was much of an atmosphere down there today,so were he got "we were unbelievable" from is beyond me?

If he is refering to the fact that 30,000 or so fans turned out, then ok,but its because we love the club, and hate to see it in the position

Yes but he doesn't go and tell them to play rubbish does he?

Maybe Ollie should look at his tactics! Starting a home game with 5 across the back sends out the wrong message to the fans and the players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????? We should start with a more aggressive line up. Ollie, you are an idiot. What are you telling the players..."hoof the ball up front and we'll see if we can score." We didn't even test their keeper today. Tell the players....forget it, I really can't be arsed now. Will I be there next week against Scunny....probably not. By The way I am a STH and today was as poor a game as I have seen all season.

He might get things wrong at times, many do..but whatever the case he does not tell these players to go out there and play like total donkeys does he? NO, so alot of the blame has to go on there shoulders, most of them are just not worthy to put the blue shirt on and will only show up when THEY want, god i wish it was easy in just saying bye to alot of them in the summer

Saying that if we get relegated most of them may fudge off anyhow

WOOOOOO LETS GET RELEGATED!!!!

He tells them to hit it high and long to Howard. That tactic doesnt help us score goals and makes it easy for the opposition to play against.

It's a strange one because it's not always like that, also how the hell are you meant to play football on that pitch? that's not an excuse either that's just facts!

Holloway, football and eleven penguins.

In what can only be described as an act of pure genius, the Leicester City manager, Ian Holloway, has forced legislation through Parliament, which will allow his team to win every game.

He proposes to compel all opposing teams to wear the full penguin suit that Muslim ladies wear.

This latest ploy is thought to be an attempt to allow his team to win back to back victories and end the string of humiliating defeats that they have suffered since his arrival.

The new 'Terrorist Acts' introduced by the ex-British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony, 'Makepeace', Blair will be exploited by Holloway to compel all non-Leicester footballers to wear the veil.

The veil, hijab, or 'penguin suit', covers the wearer from head to toe and has a tiny slit through which to look.

Holloway reasons that his team will have a great advantage because their opponents will have restricted vision and limited movements.

Although it has been argued by learned clerics that the hijab does not affect the wearer's performance, tests carried out in a dummy run by Leicester Veteran's Society proved otherwise.

The veterans, playing in a friendly game against a fully veiled Iraqi side, scored an impressive victory by winning the game without conceding any goals.

'The blighters couldn't see the bleeding ball!' An experienced veteran enthused.

'And when they could see it they couldn't run because of the stiffness of the penguin suits!'

The Leicester manager dismissed claims that wearing the veil was unfair.

'Whingeing and moaning is simply not cricket,' he stated in a stiff, upper lip, 3 lions kind of way.

Hopefully next week it'll be Iain Dowie's, or at least in the hands of a manager who knows what he's doing.
