SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Sweepstake at work. 100 quid a horse. I went in with a couple of guys i work with and who do i go and pull out the hat. fooking Contraband. 2500 first prize, even if it did win we could have gone down the bookies and got 500-1! That would have been 50 grand. So it will be a hollow victory but good win never the less
Webbo Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 It's too much of a lottery to think I could pick a winner so I've gone for my sweepstake horses. Ardaghey 50p E/W Dun Doire £1.00 E/W

The Reverend Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 I'm not much of a horses kinda guy, but how does it work if you back it each way, its if its placed in the top...? And how does the returns work?
Jack Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 I'm not much of a horses kinda guy, but how does it work if you back it each way, its if its placed in the top...? And how does the returns work? I don't get this either Mate, I just stuck one on to win
Matt Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 I'm not much of a horses kinda guy, but how does it work if you back it each way, its if its placed in the top...? And how does the returns work? Most places are offering the top 1, 2, 3, 4. Some places (Boylesport is the only place i've seen advertised) are offering 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Here is an example of E/W for you say you picked Hedgehunter £1 E/W (Which would be £2 total stake) @ 14/1 if it won you would get £19.50 back. If it was place 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th (If you manged to get it E/W paying out of 5th place) you would get £4.50 back. (E/W - If it wins you get the return as you would if you had it to win, but if its placed you'd a 1/4 back) Here is a bet calculator for you to work out the returns on other horse's if you need it: http://www.ladbrokes.com/betCalculator/betCalc.html
Flexx Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 I've got £2.50 on Turko, £2.50 on Chelsea. And a quid each on Simon and Slim pickings at 12/1. Doubt i'll win anything though. I'll pick up 85 quid if Turko wins
Matt Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 £27.50 £2.50 @ 10/1 on Comply or Die. And had a better day punting and watching the racing than I would have listening and watching Leicester play, and got a little bit of money to show for it.
Bluefoxtim Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 My bet on 14 horses paid off in the end! Total expenditure £32 Total revenue £33 Bailey Breeze 66/1 had £3 each way on this fellar, came 7th I think. Bet365 offered top 5, so could made a bit there... Had £7.50 on Mckelvey each way as well, turns out he died
Ric Flair Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 Had £3 on Comply or Die to win @ 10/1 and £2.50 e/w on Snowy Morning @ 18/1 (4.5 x 2.50) = £46.75 returns. But did have about £25-30 worth of bet's in the end. Coming in to the last couple of fences I had Comply or Die, Snowy Morning, Bewley's Berry, D'Argent and Idle Talk all in the front batch of horses. Milan Deux Mille started very well as well, first 20 fences it was pissing it at 150/1
