One man, his violin and 12 effects pedals = brilliant He was the violinist in NMA for a while too. I bought the album after we bumped into him busking in Northampton, outside Selectadisk. Lovely bloke. The world can pretty much blame EAJ for the entire crusty/traveller movement too as it was his fiddling that opened the door for The Levellers, who also cut their teeth supporting NMA. Love it up.

The world can pretty much blame EAJ for the entire crusty/traveller movement too as it was his fiddling that opened the door for The Levellers, who also cut their teeth supporting /copying NMA. Love it up. i very nearly put track from both these fan-ripping-off-with-t-shirt-prices bands but, listening back, i realised how bad new model army actually were/are. the levellers are still good mind you. regarding the mix, i can only download it when i've got me somemore Gb's. 10 tracks though? mines got 31 tracks on!
hairy Posted 2 April 2008 Author Posted 2 April 2008 He was the violinist in NMA for a while too. Yes on the Thunder & Consolation and Impurity albums. He did a fill in slot between the support and NMA when I saw him. Saw him the other weekend busking in York. Said hello. Have you any ohis other albums? I have Ultraviolet but nothing since.
Daggers Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 01. to 04. Ed Alleyne Johnson - Oxford Suite Parts 1 to 4 I put the album on now and then when trying to get some work done or quieten down the house - I wouldn't stick all of this on a compilation though. I did put Pt 1 on my original mix before changing it, prefering Chinese Laundry Blues. That's where I am with this. 05. Groundation - Ranking Dub Outstanding bit of dub and I'm trying to download more as I write this. Love it. 06. Refugee Allstars - Smile Annoying. The vocalist sounds like some bored teenager who is trying not to answer any question posed of him in Science class. 07. Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Stairway To Heaven I don't like live tracks as a rule and this is no exception, but I think the album version is well worth the effort. 08. Santa Maria Da Feira - Devendra Banhart Wahey! They doing it in espanol. Plus points for the latin rhythm, minus points for the crap falsetto chorus bit and the the 'oh wow oh'. 09. Poems - Nearly God Nice. It's part of the backlog of downloaded stuff I have to listen to but haven't got around to yet. I like. 10. Dancing in the Moonlight - Smashing Pumpkins I can't listen to an entire album by SP, I simply don't do his voice for long periods. One off's though, fine. I like this - it's no Butterfly With Broken Wings...and I think I prefer the original. Thanks. I was surprised, I think I was expecting a collection of much harder tunes from you but I'm delighted at the lack of indie and that dancy stuff young people like. Huzzah.
Daggers Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Have you any ohis other albums? I have Ultraviolet but nothing since. Same. Oh, Stez - NMA are not crap. How can a band be crap when the lead singer is called Slade the Leveller? They can't. Not even if his real name is Justin.

Firstly you want Dub War as a lot of Groundation albums are hit and miss. Dub War is the best in my opinion. I tried to avoid the indie and dance stuff as most of it is already covered in peoples mix tapes. As I said I wanted to bring something different to the youth.
Dr The Singh Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Daggers is brutal. And I’m not talking S&M Yes he is brutal, and i'm talking S&M, so they tell me!!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Have listened to this briefly and it's extremely interesting - looking forward to giving it a proper listen (heading out soon for Arsenal v Liverpool) Just a quick note to say the Rodrigo y Gabriela track is the end of Stairway to Heaven and then mostly (I think, from memory) Tamacun.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 Liked the Ed Alleyne stuff. In NMA was he? When I was a younger man I used to drink in The Globe every weekend evening and there was always a group of 4-5 guys in there who were huge NMA fans and talking about nothing more. My mates and I mercilessly took the mick out of them. There's more to life than NMA, or indeed any one single band. The "world music" - sorry Hairy, never been a fan of that kind of music. Don't dislike it, but then on the otherhand, I don't get it either. Tricky is of course a genuis!! I have his first 2 albums, but kinda lost track of his career. I like Smashing Pumpkins - Billy Corgan has a great voice - but I hate this song and the pumpkins don't improve it any for completely changing its style. Worth mentioning though, one of my pet hates - cover versions where they play it exactly as the orignal was played, so basically it just has a different vocal. I mean, what's the point?!
