Ultra Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 liberty shoes building just read this http://www.le.ac.uk/emoha/leicester/liberty.html quote The new building (7) has now been completed, and for a while there was some confusion as to what had happened to the statue. In April 2005 it is stored in a crate in an adjacent car park (8), its future uncertain. i think they feckin well lost it . They haven't lost it. It's in the basement of a block of student flats. Given its weight, it's not likely to move soon. A couple of points on the article: 1) The away manager that night was Barry Fry, thus confirming Ric's suspicions. 2) I too thought Collymore scored that night, but apparently not - it was Brett Angell. 3) On the Saturday after this game, we took 6000 to Peterborough and lost 3-0!

Now you mention it, Brett Angell does ring a bell. But I could have sworn Collymore scored against us for Southend at some point, but considering he only stayed there one season, perhaps he didn't?. Went that Peterborough game, never seen so many Blue Army fans in convoy on the roads other than Wembley and Hillsborough, obviously.
Fat Ron Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Reading this was like watching Life on Mars, So many memories of things I thought I had forgotten!!! Top Class, take a credit mark & a gold star

Ultra Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 When the Liberty Building was redeveloped, I believe it was a planning condition that the statue should be prominently displayed. Unfortunately the property company were a bunch of fly-by-nights and refused to comply. When I'm next at work (tomorrow morning), I'll post a picture that was taken a couple of weeks ago of its current state. It's a real shame to see a former city landmark treated with such disrespect...
