Sniffer-Clarke Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Mandy made a fatal mistake taking this pillock on,He didnt at the time have a lot of choices but to pay plymouth £400k for this man was a joke is cv was not that impressive never took a team to the premiership but warnock had. Mandy should have cut him lose in january before he could waste any money on transfers. Gone for Coleman.Davies.Dowie.or even tried to tempt big sam and i am sure one of those 4 would have kept us up.
SamL Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 hey, does anybody know where to get an MP3 of the monday night phone in? What's that got to do with this topic?
Geo V Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Warnock historically has never had much money but does well in bringing young players through, especially at Sheff U with the likes of Tonge and Jagielka and he is doing similar things at Palace with some quality young kids, especially this Moses dude that is getting rave reviews. I said I would accept him here as he is a media whore which would suit this club but he is a quality man-manager and has done well in his career and IMO, has been under-rated. Anyway, there are no guarantees he would have turned it around with us but with all due respect to Ollie, he couldn't have done much worse.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Further to Bostock and Moses, they've also got Scannell and Hills who have played the most number of games this season and a kid called Robinson who's been getting on the bench lately who is apparently the best of the lot.
Corky Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 I will grudgingly admit that Colin is a good manager, and may have been better for our club than Holloway, but I would find it extremely hard to chant his name in a positive light.

He has loaned out some older players like Freedman and Kuqi and stayed with the younger lads who seem to be hungrier and have less fear which has worked. Ollie seems to have gone for more experience in recent times which would have been the preffered choice by me but maybe playing the likes of Mattock more often and finding a spot for the likes of Gradel or even Shush! (I cant believe Im saying this) may actually have been better. I suppose its all to do with the fact that I am just so frustrated with this squad of under-achievers.

They use him and look how suicidal its been!. We send ours to Bournemouth and get what we deserve. It's been embarrassing watching us try to sign a replacement who's anything like as dangerous. Goals from right wingers this season? None! You couldn't make it up.

I cant knock you as your tune has been consistent on this subject but there is no guarantee that Gradel would necessarily do it at this level. If you look at Moses` physique he is like a Heskey and can take the rigours of this level and Max may need more "growing" before we see him at his best. You cant really blame Ollie as he bought in the Hungarians, Bell and had a decent squad already but they have grossly underachieved but the younger lads who havent gone out on loan have hardly set the world alight.

Who was the last player to come to City and overachieve? Footballers graveyard
Corky Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Who was the last player to come to City and overachieve?Footballers graveyard I always thought Billy McKinlay did well for us in that promotion season, so he could be a contender. He was a lot better than what I expected him to be.
Koke Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 We don't really know how it would have been had Warnock walked into the turmoil that Holloway walked into. Palace is a far more stable club than Leicester.

Gradel may be smallish but he's been hammered all his career - including regularly this season at Bournemouth - because that's the only way some folk can stop him. I remember at the Academy play-off final at Sunderland they really gave him some treatment but he took it all and carried on tormenting them. It was amazing he could still stand by the time he was substituted second half but he still scored, still created chances and finished as arguably Man of the Match. Our free kick ratio will rise dramatically if Gradel ever gets in the first team cos if you read the BBC reports on Bournemouth it's foul on Gradel free kick to... with great regularity. I doubt he'll ever be big but he'll cope. After the death of his mum I doubt that dealing with a few hard cases will daunt him at all. Davie Gibson had the slightest physique and rarely got his shorts dirty even on mudbath pitches. But he still made opponents look mugs just like any number of small players like Giles, Bremner, Strachan, the list is endless. You say our loanees haven't set the world alight but they've done a lot more than some of the loanees who've come here. Gradel is worshipped at Bournemouth, and by Crewe cos he got a 10 rating against them and was clapped off even by the Crewe fans whose club enquired about taking him there shortly afterwards. He's been a regular scorer and has often led Bournemouth their fight against relegation. Dodds is third top scorer with nine goals at Lincoln despite playing all the time in midfield (how we could do with that) and Shush!, after his recent free-kick winner and after helping Leeds keep four clean successive sheets as they hit the play-off places, is now the subject of "get him signed up" chat. What have we had? No goals from Laczko, Bori, Etuhu, Oakley and not much in the way of assists from them either, or from Clapham.
Koke Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Oakley aside, the others have barely played on a regular basis though. And I'm pretty sure Etuhu and Laczko would piss all over League 2 defenders.
Thracian Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Oakley aside, the others have barely played on a regular basis though. And I'm pretty sure Etuhu and Laczko would piss all over League 2 defenders. I never saw Laczko "pissing all over" Reserves defenders and Gradel plays in League One, the same as we'll be playing next season in all probability, where he's scored nine goals.
Koke Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 My point is they haven't played regularly enough. How many games have Bori and Laczko started between them? Not many. And Dodds are scoring at League 2 standards, but so did Fryatt at League 1. Look at him now.. I agree about Gradel though.
Rich Fox Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 We should have appointed Warnock, I thought it at the time some managers fit clubs and my gut feeling at the ime was get Warnock in.
filbertboy Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Do not think we would be where we are had Colin been appointed. would not have liked it mind !!
FilboFox Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 I've always wanted Warnock here. But our awesome fans decided he wasn't welcome here. And good on us as well... I didn't want him then and I don't want him now! I'd rather have Holloway ANY day of the week, month, year.... WHATEVER!!! Holloway was doing a decent job at Plymouth before he came here... what's to say that Warnock would have been able to do anything differently with our players? Yes, you could argue, what's to say that he wouldn't be a fantastic manager that would have got us to the play-offs... but then you could say that for virtually ANY manager! Lets face it, he started out with a better squad at Crystal Palace than he would have here...

Lets face it, he started out with a better squad at Crystal Palace than he would have here... No he didn't. He inherited it from Peter Turnip - and they were second bottom at the time he was appointed. Fair play to Warnock for turning things round there, although it does beg the question as to why Holloway couldn't do the same for us. But he'd never have done anything here. He's badmouthed us too often for us to forgive and forget.
Ultra Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 We don't really know how it would have been had Warnock walked into the turmoil that Holloway walked into.Palace is a far more stable club than Leicester. Really? Than why does their chairman sack even more managers than Mandaric?

Thracian Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Warnock has benefitted from an unusually thriving youth system at the moment. Holloway was prepared to play the kids too, but Ashley Chambers never looked as ready as Victor Moses has this season. It's also a very good demonstration of why you should never bow to populism, particularly when the people involved are football fans. Circumstances forced Holloway to play Chambers. He's short of first team standard yet. Holloway shows scant faith in youngsters and mostly goes for experience when given the choice, Clapham for Mattock/Shush!, Oakley/Hendrie for Wesolowski, Hendrie out wide for Beswick. He always has a fair argument too because so fringe players lack match fitness by the time they get a chance so they rarely look at their best. Leeds even referred to lack of fitness with Shush!. King is another example and even Wesolowski struggled a bit to make the pace when he returned briefly. Holloway might play them more when the games don't mean anything which means they should at least be fit for the close season.

Robinson isnt the best, we have seen snipits but has been average so far. Moses and Bostock are the best. There is also another couple, James Dayton and Rhoys Wiggins, both coming back from serious injuries. I think Warnock has just got lucky i think at palace, hes done a lot of good things getting a solid defence, but he has joined at a time when these kids are all ready to play. We have been waiting for these kids for 3 years. Moses, Scannell and Hills were all 16 and Bostock 15 when this season started.
Koke Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Really? Than why does their chairman sack even more managers than Mandaric? Look what Holloway walked into, a club with 7 RB's ffs. - Just like that Palace lad said, Warnock got lucky in some respect as he joined their club at the right time. Palace had a decent side before he took over, but unfortunately for them they had a clown in charge. And Milan have only sacked Allen and Kelly for your information.
maddog Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 We could probably have had Paul Ince too and he seems to be doing alright. I hope we get Ince for next season. If we go down we certainly won't though
