davieG Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Link SKIPPER Brian Howard is expected back in the Barnsley team for Saturday's beat-the-drop clash with Leicester at Oakwell. Manager Simon Davey's team can secure their Championship future with a victory over the third from bottom club. Howard has not played since the FA Cup semi final and was out again last night as Barnsley lost 3-1 to Hull City, who climbed into an automatic promotion place. Howard recovered from an ankle injury suffered at Wembley but reported sick this week. Said Davey: "He's not trained at all so he was not available for Hull. Hopefully he'll be recovered in time for the weekend." After winning twice away from home, Barnsley remain five places above the only remaining relegation place with three games to play. Said Davey: "We need a win and we have to go and get that win whether it's against Leicester, Charlton or at Cardiff. We prepare now to go and win against Leicester. "We've not changed position, we've not changed our points tonight. It would have been nice to have had a few more points on the board after the game in hand but that wasn't to be." He added: "Everybody looked tired. Not only tired legs, there were tired minds, tired decisions which results in us losing the ball and passing the ball out of play. It was hard to watch sometimes from the sidelines. It gets frustrating but they're not going to get too much criticism off me because they've worked very hard over the last week." Hull are only the fourth team to win at Oakwell this season. Davey commented: "Hull are a good side, there's no doubting that. They've come here and beaten us 3-1 and on reflection they were the better side on the night. That's why they're in promotion spot. On their performance tonight and the way they worked, their attacking skill, that's why they're where they are." Istvan Ferenczi came off
Phlashman Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 He added: "Everybody looked tired. I think we should stick Campbell and Hume on to take advantage.

Zingari Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 a win at Barnsely would be HUUGGEE. COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!1 RRAHHH i just can't imagine thinking that a few yews ago but yes right now it will be
FilboFox Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 COME ON LEICESTER!!!! Win here and we have all but secured our Championship status I would imagine... Coventry aren't going to be picking up any points soon! OLLIE'S BLUE ARMY!!! OLLIE'S BLUE ARMY!!! OLLIE'S BLUE ARMY!!! :scarf: :scarf:

Let them run at their back four who should be nackered.

Coventry aren't going to be picking up any points soon! OLLIE'S BLUE ARMY!!! OLLIE'S BLUE ARMY!!! OLLIE'S BLUE ARMY!!! :scarf: :scarf: Hmmm it will all be clearer after Saturday. I have to say though after Coventry play Colchester and Blackpool play Sheff Wed I cant see either of them picking up many points. Coventry (Wolves H, Charlton A) and Blackpool (Plymouth A, Watford H), If we are still within a point of both come the end of Saturday I think we will survive.....WHY HAS IT COME TO THIS?!?!?!....please let Coventry go down! Although I fancy us to lose away at Barnsley, so things will probably get worse before they get better. Lets just hope it gets better this season. As long as results go our way, a draw away to Barnsley would'nt be the worse result in the world. Who knows Stoke may already be up come the final game of the season and then that makes that slightly less daunting as well.

Who knows Stoke may already be up come the final game of the season and then that makes that slightly less daunting as well. We need to win to ensure that we stay up without relying on goal difference and assuming both Sheff Wed and Cov lose and/or draw, and we win our last home game. The Stoke game then becomes immaterial and I'll go to the game and have a right laugh and take the mickey out of Stoke as they'll go on to do a Derby next season. Then again, that's best case scenario. It involves a WW streak. If it's going to happen, it'll happen now. This weekend. We'll have a much better idea come the end of Saturday.
Tilley Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Wouldn't it be freeeeeking amazing if Leicester went the whole season without back to back wins. Then, we beat Barnsley & Sheff Wed. Probably never gonna happen but would be the best thing ever if it did.
egg_fried_rice Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Your always so optimistic.Hume & Campbell up front. Let them run at their back four who should be nackered. In my end of season delirium, I've placed an accumulator involving a Leicester win at the weekend... Now there's optimism for ya! I agree with Hume and Campbell - I think pace going forward will be key, as Barnsley did look sluggish against Hull. Perhaps give Laczko and Etuhu a decent game also?
Chimp Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 I can't help but feel an enormous amount of dread toward this match. I can't see us picking up any points and, tbh, come 5:45pm on Saturday 19th April 2008 Leicester City will be all but relegated.
maddog Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 lose and we are in a mess. I would be happy with a draw, as long as we get a win against Wednesday or Stoke. 3-4 points should certainly be enough to survive And if Cov lose their last 3 games, just 1 point.
evan Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 and wouldnt Barnsley needing to win mean they attack and come at us which might help us with our old problem of not being able to blow a proverbial back door down. we're always better when teams come and have a go...rather than sit in...and nick an 89th minute winner.

MUST WIN GAME! a draw only gives us a small chance Lose and were are relying on others
Legend_in_blue Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 MUST WIN GAME! a draw only gives us a small chance Lose and were are relying on others Possibly. But should Sheff Wed lose at Blackpool and we beat them at home, we'll stay up on goal difference. I'd say that's more than a small chance. Whatever we happen to do, everybody seems to be factoring in a loss for Sheff Wed and/or Cov this weekend. Let's hope that happens and we go away and do something positive.
Geo V Posted 17 April 2008 Posted 17 April 2008 I think we can turn them over. They are looking tired but then again it was Hull who they were playing and they are beating everyone at the moment and have some classy players in there side. Anyway, I hope we are set-up for the win and are not going up there to grab a point. Holloway needs to get this right.
lavrentis Posted 17 April 2008 Posted 17 April 2008 theres no point in hoping we're going to win. Everyone has us to go down.

Geo V Posted 17 April 2008 Posted 17 April 2008 theres no point in hoping we're going to win. Everyone has us to go down. No offence but I dont give a fook about "Everyone!". We need to recall that spirit that got us the win against Oxford years and years ago to keep us up and the same spirit that got important win over Preston (away) last season. Any side that can dick WBA like we did, stop long undefeated runs against the likes of Palace and Norwich this season and stuff Watford early season should have the ability to get enough out of the last few games to stay up. Anyway, Coventry are going down.

Geo V Posted 17 April 2008 Posted 17 April 2008 I agree with you but I have just had it with LCFC. Mate I dont know how you can say that. I agree that the last few seasons have been utter shite and if you are under 18/19 then arguably all you have seen is utter crap and the likes of me talking of proper glory days not so long ago just doesn't add up but its not like we haven't tried as a club this season!! New owner, plenty of cash thrown in, loads of new players (many who left within 6 months), £2m transfer fees, emerging young talents but unfortunately the manager hasn't been able to harness the pluses and turn them into a decent football side. I havent spent as much time doing the 200+ mile round trip to the games in the second half of the season due to work commitments but even though I am nervous, down at the prospect of the third division and annoyed at the high waged low achievers, its still "my" club and I`ll back them and be optimistic about things even if we were playing Peter Taylors Stevenage

If we stay up, it will be great however my confidence in them has greatly decreased since last saturday. But, it is Leicester and we will probably draw against Wednesday and Barnsley but probably beat Stoke.
