Has anyone ever substituted a choice before? Apparently I cannot do this now, but in late Feb/early March something comes into play untill June named 'UCAS Extra' meaning you can apply for another course/university - has anyone ever done that before?

I always planned on studying at Liverpool John Moores, never found a course, but after talking to people and doing research I have found a course I could have and should have applied for. However, I have used up all my 5 choices meaning I cannot sub one of them. I have had an unconditional offer from Manchester Met, but I have also been rejected by Sheffield Hallam (their loss!) and apparently if you are rejected, or do reject, a university then you can apply for UCAS Extra, so I was then going to apply for web design/development at Liverpool.

Just wondered if anyone has been in the same boat, or gone through this? I have looked on the Yougofurther forum I am signed upto, and nothing, I have also looking in my UCAS welcome guide and on the student room forum but again I cannot seem to understand it. Maybe I should just wait untill late Feb and hope I am able to apply.

I think you either need to have been rejected from all 5 unis or to decline any offers you have received before you can take part in ucas extra. If you're serious about this it's best to get in contact with the uni you want to go to directly to ask if they still have spaces on the course you want to do, if not then there's no point.

Yeah you are right. I misread it. It says you can apply if "you have been rejected by all 5 universities", and obviously I haven't!

Confirmed Manchester Met as firm. Anyone studied/studying here?

Can't apply for accommodation until April 4th I think.

Got an offer from Durham now. Between that and Newcastle. Quite fancied Newcastle but the chance to go to Durham is very difficult to resist.

If you ask me that's a no brainer: Top 5 Uni vs a top 20 one. Fvcking well done in both cases though. :trumpet:

Just sent my options off, Lancaster firm, Hull insurance (living there for 3 years bit of a killer though)

I recieved an offer from Hull, Scarborough campus though :/ meaning it was longer away than me going to Manchester.

Well done both of you

Thank you

No brainer for me as well but for different reasons entirely - ****ing Newcastle man!! Go to a proper city! The difference between the unis at the individual level is much of a muchness - whether you love or hate your degree will be pretty much pot luck (from my experience anyway...)

Oh and come 4am after a heavy Saturday night out Newcastle will feel very far from Durham!

Can't really comment on the university itself (I studied until January at the University of Manchester, didn't really like it) but the city is just the ****ing best by miles :)
