Toby or not Toby Posted 11 June 2008 Posted 11 June 2008 Stef Oakes has gone to Lincoln on a free, he sed he wants to come home that is why he rejected the new contract at Wycombe. Good signing for Lincoln
Toby or not Toby Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 He has signed for Crystal Palace. Didn't hang around long at Charlton did he.
lildave3 Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 Good god Warnock, what's he doing. Although it's well known he likes brave and passionate central defenders.
andyh1884 Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 Paddy to Palace Paddy departs for Palace Centre-back Patrick 'Paddy' McCarthy has joined Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee, Charlton announced on Thursday. Almost three weeks after swooping for former Eagles skipper Mark Hudson, Addicks manager Alan Pardew has allowed the rugged Irish defender to make the short trip in the other direction. Dubliner McCarthy made 33 appearances for the Valley men after arriving from Leicester City for £650,000 last summer. And he weighed in with three goals in that time, most notably a last-gasp overhead kick against the Foxes four days after Christmas. But his short move to Selhurst Park marks the first significant departure of the summer as boss Pardew's preparations for a promotion assault continue in earnest. McCarthy, who came through the ranks at Manchester City before moving to the East Midlands in March 2003, established himself as a key member of the rearguard in the second half of the season. A dominant and vocal presence at the heart of the defence he re-established himself in the first team at the turn of the year and played in every Addicks game of 2008. Indeed, he was ever present in the final 24 games of the campaign, working in tandem with Madjid Bougherra, Sam Sodje and Jonathan Fortune. A starter on the opening day of the season against S****horpe United, McCarthy, who turned 25 on May 31st, would admit a season-ending shoulder injury sustained in January 2006 when with Leicester stifled his early progress at The Valley. And after featuring in the first five league games of the season, McCarthy faded from the Championship picture until December when he emerged from the bench to replace an unwell Sodje. A Boxing Day start at Norwich followed as Pardew dealt with a series of defensive suspensions, and having worked tirelessly behind the scenes to win back his place, McCarthy was not dislodged from then on. As well as his no-nonsense defending, McCarthy specialised in last-gasp goals, heading home his first effort for the club to win a 4-3 Carling Cup thriller against Stockport County on August 28th. And in his second start back, at The Walkers Stadium, he was again the unlikely saviour, hooking home an instinctive overhead effort to help his new club snatch a point against his former employers. He also showed predatory prowess in the box against Preston North End on March 8th, stabbing home a shortlived equaliser in a 2-1 defeat and his consistent displays saw him finish third in the supporters' player of the year poll. McCarthy's exit makes him the fourth Addick to head for pastures new this summer following the release of out-of-contract trio Chris Powell, Cory Gibbs and Osei Sankofa. Charlton chief executive Steve Waggott told the official website: "We wish Paddy well in his future career and we thank him for his efforts in his one-year stint with us." Hudson remains the sole new face at The Valley to date, while skipper Matt Holland, Svetoslav Todorov, Kelly Youga, Grant Basey and Rob Elliot have all penned new contracts to remain in SE7. Ever-present in their final 24 games...... as they slid down the table and out of the play-offs.
Maybes Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 Would be interesting to see what 'LetsAllLaughAtMillwall' has to say about this.....
MikeyT Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 Good god Warnock, what's he doing.Although it's well known he likes brave and passionate central defenders. What was wrtong with Mcarthy? I thought he was alright!
lildave3 Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 What was wrtong with Mcarthy?I thought he was alright! He's not THAT bad. But Palace will be aiming for Playoffs this season really, and he's certainly not that good.
andyh1884 Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 What was wrtong with Mcarthy?I thought he was alright! A disticntly average defender, all too often caught out by any pace/intelligence/ball-control shown by opposition player, poor distribution and highly questionable temperament, collected yellow and red cards like Panini stickers. Other than that he was very similar to Franco Baresi
Joe. Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 Shocking captain for us, never lead by example in terms of his attitude- picked up many needless yellow/red cards BUT I don't think he was as bad as many made him out to be on here.

Jack Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 He's half decent, far from play off quality though which is what palace will be aiming for next season.
DBEightyFive Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 arriving from Leicester City for £650,000 last summer. Did we get that much for him? I don't remember
andyh1884 Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 Same as Kisnorbo . I'd say Kisnorbo gets his pants pulled down by opposition forwards far less than McCarthy. His distribution is equally poor though
The Stig Posted 12 June 2008 Posted 12 June 2008 Shocking captain for us, never lead by example in terms of his attitude- picked up many needless yellow/red cards BUT I don't think he was as bad as many made him out to be on here. Hit the nail on the head there.
Lamby Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 Im disgusted with the sale of Paddy Mac. He was a solid CB and didnt put a foot wrong, much. Well done Mr Pardew, what an inbicile you are. £350K loss on him as well.

Warnock obviously prefers him to McAuley. On this issue at least, the Palace boss has it sussed.
Simi Posted 13 June 2008 Author Posted 13 June 2008 Or Steve Walsh at a similar age.. Warnock obviously prefers him to McAuley. On this issue at least, the Palace boss has it sussed. Maybe he hasn't got the budget to play over a million quid for him? Just a thought...
