davieG Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 Isn't it time something was done to speed them up or at least add the time on. They take so long these days and when you consider some of the other pointless rules, (players having to leave the pitch after receiving attention) it seems incredible to me that so much time is allowed for free kicks.

They could start by booking any player who delays the taking of a free-kick by deliberately stopping the kick being taken.

They could although I'm not a great believer in bookings, what ever happened to moving it 10 yards forward. These days though it's used as a legitimate way of wasting time.
Fox You Forest Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 If were talking end of the game there should be an alloted time in wich to take it, if not taken in that time give it the other way, But then that would have to apply all the way through the game does less time = less chance of scoring an attacking free kick. Anyway if Fifa/Uefa/FA/Football League got involved it would all go tits up anyway look a the offside rule/s, It would end up something like take a free kick within 20 seconds with no boots on or be red carded.
iancognito Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 It's always the same with new guidelines & rules. The ten yard advance rule lasted a few months, the time/steps a keeper is allowed with the ball is changing all the time and never adhered to, being booked for taking off your shirt etc are all treated differently depending on the referee.
Number 6 Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 It is a little irritating sometimes but surely the attacking team should get the advantage, however they wish to use it. If you don't like it then stop giving away free kicks.

As a spectator it bores me to death no matter which team has got the free kick, the refs are partly to blame for all this whistle waving, let them take a free kick quickly if someone's in the way move it forwards. If the team taking the free kick take too long add some time on. On the subject of time wasting don't book the player add double the time wasted onto the end of the game.
DB11 Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 (players having to leave the pitch after receiving attention) Physio comes on and is supposed to analyse the injury and then the player goes off for treatment. Of course, this isn't what happens. what ever happened to moving it 10 yards forward. It was a trial for a season. It could only be used if the opposition player was cautioned for dissent at the award of a free kick. Most Refs didn't use it because it meant they'd have to caution as well. The ten yard advance rule lasted a few months Lasted a season. the time/steps a keeper is allowed with the ball is changing all the time No limit on steps. Six seconds are allowed though, and it isn't changing all the time. being booked for taking off your shirt etc are all treated differently depending on the referee. Not really. You'll find every Referee caution for removing your shirt because it is a mandatory caution and, when being assessed, they'll lose valuable marks for not cautioning on mandatory ones.
Bryn Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 They could start by booking any player who delays the taking of a free-kick by deliberately stopping the kick being taken. That'd be controversial, there'd be loads of quick free kicks.

davieG Posted 26 May 2008 Author Posted 26 May 2008 why do you get a yellow for taking your shirt off?? Because the children don't want see mens nipples!
DB11 Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 why do you get a yellow for taking your shirt off?? Delaying the restart of play I think. Or unsporting behaviour. I'll go and find out
Number 6 Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 why do you get a yellow for taking your shirt off?? Footballers are not allowed to have emotions.
Jay Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 They could although I'm not a great believer in bookings, what ever happened to moving it 10 yards forward. These days though it's used as a legitimate way of wasting time. I think they had to scrap it after a Chelsea match when they complained and berated the referee so much that after he had just past Watford it didn't make sense anymore
Number 6 Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 defending teams might also want the ball moved forward ten yards to make it more difficult to get the ball up and down over the wall.
DB11 Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 I found out the reason, as written by FIFA: "Removing one's shirt after scoring is unnecessary and players should avoid such excessive displays of joy."
