Uncle Albert Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Pepe is class. Ronaldo getting the skippers armband brought a tear to my eye.
Asha Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Funny how Pleat was describing how amazing the tackle on Nani was, but when his fellow commentator said 'that's an awful challenge', he suddenly backed down and said 'yes, well, bad tackle that' or something similar. Pleat = no balls.
Simi Posted 7 June 2008 Author Posted 7 June 2008 Kick off at 7:45pm.Portugal 2-0 winners I reckon. Ronaldo to score and take his top off saying "Viva Madrid". Two out of two.
lildave3 Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Has Deco even turned up? Thought he was class tbh. Funny how Pleat was describing how amazing the tackle on Nani was, but when his fellow commentator said 'that's an awful challenge', he suddenly backed down and said 'yes, well, bad tackle that' or something similar.Pleat = no balls. Because it looked like a great challenge at first, then on the replay it showed just how bad it was. Still, Aurelio was quality, the Fenerbahce beast. Portugal did look pretty damn good though, could well go a long way again. Turkey didn't produce much at all in terms of shots, Nihat disappointed and Tuncay just annoyed. Kazim did well though, as did Aurelio and Servet.
dandannieldanok Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Portugal should cruise through this group now, I doubt the turgid performances of Czech Republic and Switzerland will have them shaking in their boots. Some of their play was sublime, although the Turks did appear limited opposition.
purpleronnie Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Amazing such a small nation produces so many amazing players.
WetFlannel Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Cristiano Ronaldo - who hit the post with a sensational free-kick early on - inspired his side to victory as they scored two second half goals to kill of a Turkish threat which never materialised. I knew the media would be all over him just because of one free kick which was hardly special. He did nothing noticeable, especially to warrant this ludicrous money being linked with him.
StroudFox Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Portugal are one of my 2 sweepstake teams at work so they better win. Think it will be 2-0 Portugal.
Uncle Albert Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 I knew the media would be all over him just because of one free kick which was hardly special. Was another good performance from the little man.
Asha Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Ronaldo was class tonight mate, he was apart of everything Portugal done. Agreed, but because of Ronaldo's high goalscoring tally, people will think he has to score to be seen as doing something. The pressure/media etc. doesn't seem to be affecting him at all.
Joe. Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Portugal looked very good tonight, performances like that will get them far. However I don't agree with all this Ronaldo business- I thought he was nothing special at all tonight. OK, a great free kick which was extremely close to hitting the back of the net but little else really. In fact he lost the ball on numerous occassions and there'd be more players I'd put ahead of him as man of the match tonight. It's only the fact he's had such a stunning season that everybody seems to think he can do no wrong now.
syston_fox Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Has Deco even turned up? He was my man of the match - thought his range of passing was superb tonight!
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Nihat disappointed and Tuncay just annoyed. I actually thought that Nihat was one of the brighter players for Turkey. Decent set pieces, some neat footwork, and created space for Tuncay, who should've been replace at half-time at the very latest. Ronaldo was class tonight mate, he was apart of everything Portugal done. No, Joao Moutinho was part of everything and was arguably the man of the match.

Hummm... Ok then.

He didn't play as well as he should have, but yeah Tuncay was shit. Sabri I thought was poor when he came on too. Would like to see Semih get a start next time out.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Hummm... Ok then. Come on, Moutinho had a great game.
lildave3 Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Come on, Moutinho had a great game. I thought Deco was the better of the two tbh.

Would like to see Semih get a start next time out. He definately didn't play as well as he could. Would benefit from a tall target man alongside him. Don't know how Turkey usually play their football though.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 I thought Deco was the better of the two tbh. Both were quality. Good to see Deco back on form.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Come on, Moutinho had a great game. He did, but I think Ronaldo had more of an affecting game.

Don't know how Turkey usually play their football though. Well they don't really have a tall target man sadly. Get Semih alongside him though, then they'll benefit.
