David O'Leary Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 Luton Town fail in points appeal Luton Town have lost their appeal against a 10-point penalty for financial irregularities. Luton, who were also deducted 20 points after failing to satisfy the Football League's insolvency rules, will begin life in League Two on minus 30 points. The Football Association has now ruled the club's 10-point deduction and £50,000 fine for making irregular payments to agents stands. The Hatters were relegated from League One last season. An FA statement said: "The FA Regulatory Commission's responsibility was to decide the appropriate punishment for Luton's admitted breaches of the FA's own rules and regulations. "The deduction of 10 points was a heavy sanction, as it was intended to be, but was not excessive as a reflection of the seriousness of the breaches and the need to deter such conduct within football clubs."
davieG Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 Let's hope they have the balls to mete out similar punishment to the 'big' clubs when they break the regulations because from memory it seems like it's only the 'small' clubs that lose points, are ejected from competitions or demoted big clubs just seem to suffer relatively mediocre fines.

They won't have the balls to do it, that's the problem. I feel for the supporters so much.
Ashley Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 I really do feel for Luton Town and there fans. It'd be a shame to see them fall out of the football league.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 My Comm Studs teacher is a Luton fan, so i did have a laugh at him when I found out about the 30 points but no team deserves this.
Flynny Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 Ludicrous. The 10 points was the most watertight bit of the lot but they could perhaps have been more accommodating. It's the 20 that's beyond comprehension.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 It's all Warnocks fault - mean Luton are clearly not trying to cheat - they're trying to survive. I reckon I might give em a call, see if they'll need a keeper on a few saturdays - whole squad up for sale, no money to get players in. It's going to be a bleak season. Shame this wasn't given to Leeds last season - oh how we'd have laughed then!
