Knighton Matt Posted 5 April 2005 Posted 5 April 2005 i have to say i thought big craig's comments on the official site i.e. we played excellently and the crowd were excellent were absolute rubbish! i thought we were pretty toothless tonight we hardly even created one chance i can't remember us having a shot on target apart from the goal and we didn't pass the ball with any fluency at all whereas wolves did. and we were the home team! also the crowd were pretty poor although admittedly they got behind the team just when we scored but then stopped singing again! why can't we get behind the lads for the whole 90 mins lets face it it took a pretty shocking ref to get the crowd going and there was more "you don't know what your doing" chants than the crowd actually getting behind the team! finally i couldn't help but observe that mark de vries is shocking and paddy macarthy good prospect that he is shouldn't be playing right back his positioning was extremely poor all night and i thought they could have had a winner right at the death when he let one of their attackers go right past him luckily he put it over. plus he was v lucky to be on the pitch after two, lets be honest, very poor challenges. argh so frustrated!

Benji Posted 5 April 2005 Posted 5 April 2005 i missed that was geering at away fans then turned to see them all slapping the refs back who was smiling i see levein has made no real comment on the goal other than 'a little lack of concentration' its one thing to make a big mistake, but not to own up is another... was hoping for a little considertion on it to be honest

By saying we weren't up to standard isn't criticing players in public.
C-man Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 I dont think City were great last night, especially not 'Excellent' but they werent as bad as some of the performances this season where a manager said we played well (eg Brighton at home, when Micky Adams said we were positive )

Connolly had two one on ones saved, we had at least one (when Connolly was pulled down) and probably two (when their right back hand balled it from Maybury's cross) penalties turned down, and we had a definate goal disallowed for offside. Walker didn't make a single save during the entire game.

However, these good spells were largely cancelled out by periods of play where we lost possesion much too easily, passes went wayward and players found themselves out of position at important times. All in all we weren't as good as we have sometimes been lately, there's areas where definite improvement can be seen and some areas where things still need to be improved upon. Given the chances we had, the penalties we were denied and the goal that was wrongly disallowed we deserved a win last night. It should of been at least 3-0 at 80 minutes, not a fragile 1-0 lead where the players were afraid of going near a Wolves player in case the ref gave yet another free kick.
kenny Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 At times in the first half, the passing between hughes, williams and connelly was awesome, really quick and tore wolves apart. Second half not so good but still not bad, i think its fair to say we easily deserved the win over 90 mins, wolves didnt look up for it at all. See Mad dog's post for chances we should have put away. Also how poor were the linesman/Referee, the far lineman gave offside every time the ball went in that half.

But that was a quality performance and Connolly could have had a hat trick were it not for a magnificent save, a crap linesman and a crap referee. The kop was brilliant!

Mad Dog Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 L1 was in decent form aswell despite ridiculously heavy handed policing as normal. If the atmosphere could be like it was for the 15 mins leading up to the goal all game every game, we wouldnt have gone down last season. Think we'd have drawn those games with Liverpool, Wolves & Man City towards the back end of the season if we'd been at filbert street? would we bollocks.
MON Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Good point. The atmosphere was almost electric yesterday, and the players responded to it, and Maybury got forward to score. I couldn't see us scoring in the second half and I think some of the fans realised that and got behind the side to encourage them to get forward.

Definately not a case of trying to outsing the kop at all, we're just singing for our own fun, and its great. Yesterday was a great laugh, we loved it, just a shame plod had to be twats as usual.

I sensed for once that the players cared and I think that it was that what spurred the crowd on. The atmosphere and the glimpses of good football convinced me that we have a brighter future. We are a long way from being good but I for one felt better than I have done for ages.

The one frustrating thing is we seem to move up a gear only to be knocked down again and it's happened 3 or 4 times this season under Levein. We've put a few performances/results together and the fans think we've broke the back of it, only to see it fade away. All it might take is something silly to galvanize this team and get them achieving what they should be given some of the players we have, and we'll look back at this period we're experiencing and laugh ourselves till we piss the bed. Levein's the future, the players need adhere to that.
Guest Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 We're not consistent enough; at times the team look fantastic, then five minutes later all the shape is gone, and they look like they're chasing shadows. It's frustrating, but it is starting to come together now. I'm more optimistic now than I was at the start of the season.
Ricey Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 It seems Levein has been very uncharacteristic recently, he is making silly tactical decisons and not being honest in interviews (if he is being honest I don't understand where he is coming from). Tuesday night was frustrating but from what I have seen of Levein and the team since he took over there are far more positives than negatives.
