Appologies if this has already been covered but it really irritated me...

I was reading todays sporting blue and the nostalgia article. A good article about that famous season and the last game that kept us up, but the final paragraph really pissed me off.

"He is asked back to Everton once or twice a year, Blackburn occasionally, Villa now and again and Newcastle, too, will invite him up for the odd do. Since he walked away from Leicester on Saturday, May 11, 1991, he has never been back. No-one has ever asked him."

I am not surprised  but think this should be changed

I'm not surprised either the club gives the impression it's piss poor at this sort of thing, that's why Stoke have statue of Gordon Banks even though he played more games for us, spent more seasons with us and won the '66 World Cup whilst playing for us - never mind we have a snack bar names after him.

Edited to add - I bet Holloway gets invited back.

The Campaign starts here then without his contribution the rest of the decade league cup wins, play off finals and so on may never have happened survival that year was so important to stay up especially when you look at what happened after that

It does seem a real shame. Without him keeping the club up, we wouldn't have had the trips to Wembley, the glory years, the move to the new stadium.

The club should do something. As DavieG said, I bet they invite Holloway back.

The guy from Dragons Den :crylaugh:

>_<

Thought about that but reckoned he may not care - so I thought I would try the Peter Jones at the club instead

:frusty:

I do find that shocking. When this story came out I actually had to check that he had played more times for us. He's one of very few brilliant players that we can lay claim to as a club and non-fans know who we mean, and we've let fucking Stoke have dibs on him.

Shocking but not surprising treatment of both Lee and Banks by this club. Lee should be back on a regular invite, as others posters have said ,he played important role in clubs history.

Quite right.

On more than one occasion in the recent past, the Mercury have even airbrushed him out of our history altogether.

Until Holloway managed it last season (and of course Pearson has now matched it), Lee was the last manager to win his first game in charge, in February 1991. Forget the "caretaker" tag - as far as I'm concerned he was a proper manager.

I'm pretty sure, though, that there was a gathering of ex-managers at the Way a couple of seasons ago. Martin O'Neill was there, so were the likes of Brian Little, Craig Levein, Micky Adams and Peter Taylor.

It would have been very strange, not to mention extremely rude, if Lee had not received an invitation to that do.

Typical Leicester really. Cheeses me off that does.

Not that shocking. This is Leicester and many at the club would have you believe there was no club before 1991 and that Brian Little was our first manager. I'm surprised Birch hasn't even had him back as part of his HT 'entertainment'. The club are ignorant bastards but Birch is a bit more in the know.

The other amazing thing is that on Liberty island or whatever they're calling it on Upperton Road, they're going to put that chipped, gnarled garden gnome of a liberty statue. Even if there wasn't room at the ground, there's a big wide open space at a main artery into the stadium just crying out to get a big bronze Banks/Bloomfield/Gillies/Lineker/Rowley etc statue and it gets that lump of dogsh!te dropped on it.

That statue, which will be restored, is part of the city's heritage. Notice how the club has declined since it was first taken down.

As for Banks, he is a genuine legend, helping us win a League Cup (our first-ever trophy), and being part of the England 1966 side.

Birch, with respect, isn't fit to lace his drinks. And he probably knows it.

Anyone fancy ringing in the moan-in about this kind of thing tomorrow? I would, but I doubt my words'd have too much weight what with me being not quite 2 when he left. See if we can't prick Birch's conscience.

Mention Banks n'all.

Same with me. I was only 1 when he kept us up so they might not think it was genuine.

Had a reply from Peter Jones:

"Thank you for your e mail.

I remember Gordon Lee and if there is an opportunity to invite him to a match I am sure that the staff involved at the club will be pleased to do so.

Best wishes and thank you for your interest.

Peter"

Can't say I expected a lot else really...

i think it would be great to invite him to the club along with tony james ...he saved us from the 3rd tier of english football back then.....shame we never had anybody that could have done that last season.

I'll bloody invite him, I'll buy him a ticket if I have to. The guy is a legend. I often wonder how our football life would have mapped out if it was us and not West Brom that went down in '91, my knee is fooked because of that game too!

Typical Leicester really, bunch of shits. I still have the Oxford game (with suspect commentary) on VHS in the days when they used to sell individual games on tape from the club shop. I really must try and get it onto DVD before it corrodes.
