Wouldn't suprise me if he turned them around as he did at Brentford in a similar situation, the money (possibly + Mandy) got to his head here but on a budget with limited players he could thrive again.

He reckons he's never had a team finish lower than 7th would be a big achievement to get that for Cheltenham.

At every club he has managed, from non-league Barnet to Championship club Leicester City, the eccentric manager has gone to unusual lengths to inspire his players – and keep them on their toes.

His training methods have included include swimming in the Solent and the Tees during Brentford's 2005 FA Cup run and making his players clean toilets.

Now Allen has revealed that he worked as a waiter at a Berkshire pub during his year away from the game prior to his recent appointment by lowly League One outfit Cheltenham Town.

Allen said after Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Millwall: "It's great to be back at work and on the touchline, I love it. I was telling the players what I was doing when I was out of the game.

"I was working as a waiter and barman in a pub called the Old House – most of the clients there didn't know anything about football.

"I did it just to stop me being bored, as I was still being paid by Leicester City."

Allen, however, may have wished he was still pulling pints and clearing tables after his side resembled something close to a pub team at the New Den.

Some underhand payment from Mandaric no doubt as a part of the "confidentiality clause" no doubt.

I know this is highly presumptuous and suspecting of me, but that quote just smacked of arrogance and smugness. I'm probably completely wrong and read it the wrong way but it just sounded bad from my perspective.
