ronnup Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I won't welcome him. he's largely to b lame for last seasons catastrophe. Nice bloke but he's not top of the tops for me.
fox123 Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 He can take his pretty flowers with him, at lest then he wont leave here with nothing!
Sods Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I blame him for Chelsea Dagger. Therefore we should throw rocks at him.
markbsac Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 He can take his pretty flowers with him, at lest then he wont leave here with nothing! we will never know what would have happened......i cant see him getting the stick little got on his return with villa........or if smegson returns.
Darkzzz_ Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I wish him well. We are over that era now. Good luck to the man.
The Stig Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Allen added he has plenty of sympathy for Downing: "I do feel sorry for Keith Downing because I know how hard it hit me when I got the sack at Leicester, so I will try and speak to him before the end of the week." Proof if ever it was needed that mutual consent is a load of bollocks.
Lovejoy Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I dislike the bloke. He has to take a serious proportion of responsibility for last season.
Granno Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I still don't have an opinion on him as a manager as he simply didn't stay long enough. But according to popular rumour, it was the right decsision for him to go. I however, again, can't possible say I know enough about it to have an opinion. That said he seemed a likeable manager, so I wish him luck. Agreed. To me he seemed a bloke the fans would have taken to, had he more time. But we will never know what happened behind the scenes. So like The Stig I don't have an opinion as we wasn't here for long enough.
Corky Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Some of his signings left a lot to be desired.
hebangsthedrums Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Chelsea Dagger, DJ Campbell, Carl Cort, I could continue but I might cry... Amateurish twat

The Stig Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Chelsea Dagger, DJ Campbell, Carl Cort, I could continue but I might cry... Damn good point. Although we did do well to beat off the Premiership clubs chasing Cort.
DB11 Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Damn good point. Although we did do well to beat off the Premiership clubs chasing Cort. And the Premiership clubs chasing Kaebi

Flynny Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 The players a manager brings in can only be judged on what he achieved with them himself to an extent, not how other managers use them. We can't be mad at Allen because Megson and Holloway didn't like what they'd been left with. Who's fault is that that he's had to leave it unfinished? We got a very unlucky loss in which we had chance after chance and then a thumping win with Allen's rejects. Different managers want different types of players with different qualities in their teams, which is why getting a new manager can be so counter-productive and expensive. Holloway's proven that. And given how much time Holloway got without criticism despite a load of shit results this seems ridiculously harsh. I think the real reason its so easy to be down on Allen is that that buzzing optimism he worked us up into was yanked from under us with his dismissal.
Daggers Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 The players a manager brings in can only be judged on what he achieved with them himself to an extent, not how other managers use them. We can't be mad at Allen because Megson and Holloway didn't like what they'd been left with. Who's fault is that that he's had to leave it unfinished? Exactly! Who knows what marvels he could have achieved with 37 right-backs given more time?
hairy Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 Lets hope he gets the fitness levels right this time and he doesn't have another Clarke situation.
davieG Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 NEW Cheltenham Town boss Martin Allen ended a self-imposed 12-month exile from the game yesterday and then declared: "I'm coming back a better manager." Allen was confirmed as Keith Downing's successor at a Whaddon Road press conference yesterday morning after agreeing a three-year deal to take charge. Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker yesterday confirmed that Allen had been the favourite to succeed John Ward before Downing was offered the role on a permanent basis last October just weeks after he was sacked by Leicester just four games into his tenure. Allen, however, turned the opportunity down – admitting that getting the sack from Leicester 'hit me hard' and in need of a break from the game to re-appraise his management style. He said: "I needed some time out of the game after Leicester. "It hasn't been a wasted year and I have had my management career analysed by some very senior consultants. "I have had to come in for a lot of criticism or advice about dealing with people and coping better with management at the top-level. "I have looked at different strategies and tried to consider how I could do things differently. "It has been a complete period of research and soul searching. "I have gone through a full and in-depth analysis of my management style and of myself as a person. "It has been interesting and I am hoping that I will improve and develop into a better manager and person." Allen will take charge of the team for the first time when Bristol Rovers are the visitors to Whaddon Road this evening. His immediate aim will be to lift Cheltenham off the foot of the table after only one win in six games this season. "The challenge for Martin is to keep us in this division," said Baker. "That is not going to be easy given where we are now and considering the size of our playing budget. "We will be working hard to increase that to help Martin bring in some quality players. "We are serious about making this club a proper League One team capable of challenging for the play-offs." Allen, meanwhile, made his first signing yesterday by securing a one-month loan deal for Bristol City winger Scott Murray on a month-long loan deal. Jennison Myrie-Williams will not be extending his loan spell and has returned to Bristol City, but he may now go on loan to Carlisle.
Flynny Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 Exactly!Who knows what marvels he could have achieved with 37 right-backs given more time? Precis- oh, you! Seemed to be doing alright with what he had, though.
Tilley Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 Winning one nil, PA gave the goal to Owusu, but SSN seem to think Bazza scored it
