breadandcheese Posted 11 April 2005 Posted 11 April 2005 Top two. Let's be realistic. Our attack is amongst the weakest in the division (judging by performances this season) - by attack, I include midfield and strikers by judging our ability to breakdown teams and supply good balls for the strikers. Compare our strikers to promotion-chasing teams such as Sunderland, Wigan or Ipswich (with players like Elliott, Ellington, Roberts, Bent) and then think of the possible teams coming down e.g. Southampton - Phillips, Crouch; Norwich - Ashton, Huckerby; Palace - Andy Johnson; WBA - Campbell, Earnshaw, Horsfield. Our defence needs replacing with Nikos not good enough and Dublin (who has been immense lately) getting on a bit. Add to that the strong possibility of Walker leaving, and the possible need for a new left-back (depending on where you stand with Stewart and whether Sheehan is good enough). Plus, our midfield is devoid of leadership and allows teams to dominate us too easily. Joey gives the ball away needlessly with bad passes. (Maybe Dawson is good enough, I hope so - one less player to buy). Having said all this, I do believe we will improve next season with a play-off place more likely. The standard of football in this league is poor, as are the most of the teams (says more about City than anything else that we are doing so poorly). We have the nucleus of a good side but are crying out for some big positions to be filled (e.g. new centre-back, defensive centre mid, creative winger, striker - almost a spine of a team), with the next 2 or 3 signings being crucial to our chances of next season. Levein has made some excellent signings in Paddy, Maybury and Hughes. He needs to make two or three more and hope that the youngsters that have been hyped (Dawson, Sheehan, Stearman) are as good as we hope. All I am saying is don't build up expectations of a top two finish for next season. It is that kind of thinking that didn't help this season with Micky.

Kris Commons I feel looks a good player in a bad team, when he was at Stoke he hardly shone. Stuart Taylor is a decent keeper but cannot kick, we have one of the best keepers in the league in Ian Walker, hopefully he will stay. Moore doesnt seem to be getting a chance under Levein and is hardly prolific. I think with Jani Sturm coming in, all we're missing is that link up man up front, I've already pinpointed Josephe desire job as that man, perhaps on loan or permenant. Just someone who can tally up the goals and benefit Connolly.

Louise Posted 11 April 2005 Posted 11 April 2005 It's strange looking at where we are in the table and thinking of some of the goals we've let in, yet we still have about the 6th best defense in the league.
Teeno Posted 11 April 2005 Posted 11 April 2005 I actually think that Blake will stay next season. He hasn't had a chance of yet really and I think when you look at players like Gillespie and possibly Stewart and how much their games have come on under CL. Maybe he can do the same thing with Blake. Same with Wilcox and Dabizas, neither are awfull players and both may not be first teamers next season but would be valuable squad players to have.
dog_4 Posted 11 April 2005 Author Posted 11 April 2005 levein has come in. had a very old squad to work with and started to make them play better then what adams cud do. added a few of his own players and made the team better then before. whenever i watch city i always think they look better with stewart then without. can say what u like about the guy but i can't really member him making a defensive mistake all season. just need to improve central defence. I'd luv to see macarthy and stearman together, people will say stearman hasn't got enouth experiance but he can only gain experiance with games. midfield i wud say is nearly the finished article. gillespie, williams, hughes are good player but tiatto always gives the ball away and seems to be out of steam after 30 mins.

I guarantee you that Blake, Wilcox and plenty others will be given the spanish archer (elbow) come the end of the season.
