When you come to Colchester!

Hi there

As im sure you know you'll be at historical old Colchester on the 30th.

As our ground is new the stewards have started off very tough (not disimilar to the Dons stewards) and as some of you may be aware a 17 year old lad was ejected and arrested when Oldham came to town. The original offence was for standing (yes, standing, at the back) however when the steward was transporting the guy down the steps Oldham scored their unfortunate equaliser and naturally the lad celebrated as usual. This was taken as 'offensive' or something and he was later arrested, missed his fan bus home and the rest is history as they say.

The stewards are not much better on home fans either and the usually fantastic atmosphere at Layer Road has been obliterated with the loud people being banned, pushed away or relocating to another part of the ground.

Why am i telling you this? Well, when Leicester turn up we are hoping for a big away allocation (how many will you bring?) and hoping that the travelling fans will take no bollards with the stewards and stand regardless. Similarly, this is when us ColU fans who are situated in the E8/E7 blocks (to the right of the away stands) are going to put on our display. Due to the nature of the stewarding we are not sure how effective this will be. We are planning to have the same sort of displays we had at Layer Road: big flags, confetti and balloons. I and 2 others are planning this so if you see a couple of guys and a girl get transported out of the stadium you'll know who it is >_<

So when you come to our ground, dont take no bull from the stewards and neither will we. So far we have been overrun with stewards as the away section has only had maybe 500 people maximum in but when Leicester come we are hoping for a bigger, better turn out where we can make our stand.

Enjoy the trip.

Up the U's :scarf:

I went Layer Road a couple of seasons ago and it was terracing in the away section... Have they put seats in there now? >_<

EDIT: left to show that even I make mistakes sometimes.

Doubt we'll bring very many with it being in midweek now.

I presume that's a joke?

We wont be bringing as many numbers as you would think. Week night and the distance that it is!

We wont make 4 figures.

I'm personally not going to this game I don't think, the way your club has treated your fans is disgusting and to be honest, don't feel like contributing to it.

I hold out little faith for our fans in this one, as a group we have very little willingness to stand up to stewards and I am predicting we will all sit, sadly. Mainly because it's a midweek game.

Good luck with your efforts and I hope it comes off, because I understand, also witnessed first hand what you did at Layer Road and it's not fair how you've been shafted.

I know a Colchester fan that was ejected at Leicester last year and is still serving a banning order to this day.

Lee Clarkson.

He's the one who usually puts on the displays, which is one reason why this is going ahead: its a new experience for me!

Don't know his name, just know of him really because he posts on standupsitdown.

I loved Layer Road, it was a brilliant ground.

I should be there on the 30th all being well, can't see much of a following from our lot though.

I'm still waiting to see if I can get to this game >_<

Hi ColUinpeace,

I'm moving into my new house in Greenstead the day before the game, (I'm one of them tax dodging students from down Wivenhoe way) and have a couple of queries about the new ground as I've not seen it yet.

How far out of town is it? I'm pretty concerned that my match ticket also comes with a bus ticket. Heard a rumour we have to get shuttled in from North station?

Are there any decent pubs for away fans that end of town, or am I best to hang around in The Playhouse until match time? I've only ventured up to Mile End once for a cricket match so don't know that area of town particularly well.

Had some great memories at Layer Road last year, as a fan on the away terraces, as a reporter in the press box and on the pitch for a charity match that I played in there. I hope that this new stadium can retain as much character and spirit as the old ground did, though from your reaction, the club's policy and from other things I've heard, I sadly doubt it.

May well end up joining you down there in the home end later in the season, on my feet, not on my seat. That's if the loan I get do do nothing all day can match the price of a ticket!

Well I'm going and to be honest if the stewards kick up a fuss then i'm not gonna get thrown out just for the hell of it just to prove a point. Taking time off work, travelling all that way and coughing up a hefty ticket price to risk being booted out after 10 minutes? Sometimes I will argue with them but this, like with Southampton away last year will just be a case of going with the flow.

Without trying to spark a big argument in this thread with the usual suspects..

I can't remember the last time I watched a football match sitting down, I don't plan on experiencing that again if I'm honest, last time I despised it no end. I'm a great believer in strength in numbers paying dividends. As the Col U fan said, the stewards have targetted small pockets of support. The story is NEVER the same with a large support willing to fight against what they believe in.

I know we have enough people that want to stand to make this happen, but I don't expect to see it anytime soon.

Having said that, I fully see where you're coming from.

First night back at Uni, and I want a First. Trying to see if it's possible to switch to the full time lectures for the first week only.

I am going to have to miss Brighton and Tranmere though, possibly Walsall

Well yeah if a large group of people are standing then I'll be with them but sometimes when theres so few of us (im not expecting any more than 400) the stewards will just pick people off one by one and it's a losing battle from the start. If it came down to sitting down watching the game, or standing up in the car park then sadly sitting down wins everytime!

Alright, alright, don't rub it in.

It's bad enough as it is.
