Alexikokopops Posted 18 September 2008 Posted 18 September 2008 Without trying to spark a big argument in this thread with the usual suspects..I can't remember the last time I watched a football match sitting down, I don't plan on experiencing that again if I'm honest, last time I despised it no end. I'm a great believer in strength in numbers paying dividends. As the Col U fan said, the stewards have targetted small pockets of support. The story is NEVER the same with a large support willing to fight against what they believe in. I know we have enough people that want to stand to make this happen, but I don't expect to see it anytime soon. Having said that, I fully see where you're coming from. It depends how many though. At Southampton it was pretty much me, Sam L, Sods, Fez, JME, my sister's boyfriend at his first Leicester game and then maybe a couple of others. JME got chucked out after ten minutes for persistent standing. There was no numbers to provide any strength, and I guess that's the worry syston_fox has.

Alexikokopops Posted 18 September 2008 Posted 18 September 2008 Were you there? I have no reccolection of that
lildave3 Posted 18 September 2008 Posted 18 September 2008 Were you there? I have no reccolection of that Of course I was there! You sir, are a farce!
Alexikokopops Posted 18 September 2008 Posted 18 September 2008 Of course I was there! You sir, are a farce! I even knew that the only game you missed last season was Burnley away!

Shocking atmosphere, shocking football, pathetic stewards. It had it all, Im glad you remembered I went Its made the trip well worth it now.
lcfc_jme Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Well I'm going and to be honest if the stewards kick up a fuss then i'm not gonna get thrown out just for the hell of it just to prove a point. Taking time off work, travelling all that way and coughing up a hefty ticket price to risk being booted out after 10 minutes? Sometimes I will argue with them but this, like with Southampton away last year will just be a case of going with the flow. Ahh yes, Southampton away last year. Good times. Thoroughly enjoyable, result and Chloe Dexter Death Mobile aside. The idiot who got himself booted out after 10 minutes needs his head testing, though. What a plank.

ColUInPeace Posted 19 September 2008 Author Posted 19 September 2008 Hi ColUinpeace,I'm moving into my new house in Greenstead the day before the game, (I'm one of them tax dodging students from down Wivenhoe way) and have a couple of queries about the new ground as I've not seen it yet. How far out of town is it? I'm pretty concerned that my match ticket also comes with a bus ticket. Heard a rumour we have to get shuttled in from North station? Are there any decent pubs for away fans that end of town, or am I best to hang around in The Playhouse until match time? I've only ventured up to Mile End once for a cricket match so don't know that area of town particularly well. Had some great memories at Layer Road last year, as a fan on the away terraces, as a reporter in the press box and on the pitch for a charity match that I played in there. I hope that this new stadium can retain as much character and spirit as the old ground did, though from your reaction, the club's policy and from other things I've heard, I sadly doubt it. May well end up joining you down there in the home end later in the season, on my feet, not on my seat. That's if the loan I get do do nothing all day can match the price of a ticket! The ground's pretty far from town. You can get a shuttle bus from Bruff Close straight to the ground. Do you know where Bruff Close is? Basically, get any bus you can from outside the Odeon to North Station or the north station layby and walk, well, up. Bruff Close is situated behind the Big Yellow Storage near Asda. I can get you a map hopefully if needed. I'm not sure if there's any decent 'away' pubs as im not an away fan. I know for the home fans they use the fox and fiddler or the bricklayer. Not sure which, i think the Fiddler is the most used so it'd probably be best to avoid them although generally speaking ColU fans are friendly. The new stadiom cannot retain as much 'character and spirit' at all. The fans are trying but the stewards won't let us: the stewarding is pathetic to the highest degree. At the Oldham game we were at the back standing for the first 5 minutes singing and then they had 10 stewards stand on the steps and inbetween the rows of seats and we were silent. Our drummer was told "on your arse drummer boy" and we were shouted at by the head steward "sit down, shut up or get out". So we can't really do much otherwise we get banned, like many have been so far. If you come in the home end come to E8 or E7. I'm truly hoping the stewarding improves but i can't see it happening in the near future: the club seem too ignorant of the fans to allow a meeting between the fans and the stewards and safety officers.
Koke Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 The fact that it's a midweek game will severely hamper our attendance.

We aren't that short and unnoticable, are we?

Exactly... and you've forgotten about me as well. I was sat with LD3 and JME (for his 10 min spell) just in front of you!
lavrentis Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 how do you all afford to go to all these away matches? I go to a good amount but for us were spending £100 every time we go!
syston_fox Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 how do you all afford to go to all these away matches?I go to a good amount but for us were spending £100 every time we go! Think that answers you're question right there. I just have to look after myself at away games so my own match ticket (at student price if possible) and then if I can get relatively cheap train tickets then I'll go on that, if not then Fox Travel is never more than about £16. £3 for a programme, £10 for food and drink and you're not looking at too bad a price for a whole day out.
Koke Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Usually drive and share the petrol between 4 lads. Other than that, I have to look after myself only, tickets (student prices if possible), and on top of that food and drink is no more than 10 quid.
lildave3 Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 how do you all afford to go to all these away matches?I go to a good amount but for us were spending £100 every time we go! £100? Good god. How many off you go?
Bert Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 The max I'd spend on an away day is £50. That ticket, travel, food and drink, a few bets and sometimes a bandit stop off. Never ever any more than that.
lavrentis Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 £100? Good god.How many off you go? £20 for my dad £(under 18 price) for me £20 for my brother over 18. Petrol about £20 burger there and drinks £10-£15 (as for 3) and 2 programmes (£6) some fish and chips on the way back (£10)
lildave3 Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 £20 for my dad£(under 18 price) for me £20 for my brother over 18. Petrol about £20 burger there and drinks £10-£15 (as for 3) and 2 programmes (£6) some fish and chips on the way back (£10) Well that can be cut down, why are you buying two programmes?
lavrentis Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Well that can be cut down, why are you buying two programmes? 1 for a programme collector
syston_fox Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 £20 for my dad£(under 18 price) for me £20 for my brother over 18. Petrol about £20 burger there and drinks £10-£15 (as for 3) and 2 programmes (£6) some fish and chips on the way back (£10) So say £105 for the three of you only equals £35 each.... that's probably less than what most people pay per game.
lavrentis Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 So say £105 for the three of you only equals £35 each.... that's probably less than what most people pay per game. yeah but it comes out of 1 pocket .
Dr The Singh Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 yeah but it comes out of 1 pocket . I can easily spend £100 on a match day, I don't get out much hence that's mainly because of the copius alcohol i drink till early hours of the night!!!
