Hopefully shouldn't be too long now.

harpendenfox Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Martin - 6 - Had nothing to do all evening. Colchester had three shots near the end. Two went wide, and a delicious free kick hit the inside of the post, which was our one nervy moment. Martin literally didn't have a save to make. Gilbert - 7 - solid in defence and quick to attack Powell - 8 - solid, calm and pushed forward nicely Tunchev - 8 - yet again immense Hobbs - 8 - extremely calm Adams - 6 - busy and involved, often cutting infield. A little lightweight for my liking King - 6 - tidy without being inspired Oakley - 6 - similarly neat performance Dyer - 8 - stunning goal, and could have had a couple more Howard - 7 - a good solid performance, plenty of effort, but hope he can score a goal or two soon Fryatt - 7 - very busy. Nearly scored a beauty on 70, and a real handful for Colchester's defence Although we only won 1-0 I felt the gap between Colchester and us was huge. First half was largely drab, with us shading it. Second half we tore them apart for the most part, but when you're only 1 - 0 to the good anything can happen, and Colchester nearly grabbed an ill deserved point with a classy free kick. Travelling support was chirpy. How good it is to be winning and trying to play some decent football. How good it is to have a clam manager not forever opening his gob. Despite travelling on my own to an away game, something I rarely do, how much I enjoyed tonight. And now I can say I've been to the Weston Homes Community Stadium. Get me.
martyn Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 First Half was dismal after a decent first 10 minutes, second half we dominated entirely until a few scares at the end. Colchester didn't have a chance until 82 minutes and even that was a free kick Martin 6 - Nothing to do, kicking was suspect Gilbert 7 - solid Tunchev 7.5 - Great for the most part, beaten in the air a fair bit but still a commanding display Hobbs 7.5 - as above Powell 8 - Still super fit and has great positional sense. Gets forward as well, a very good performance MOM Adams 7 - Lively and all over the pitch. Delivery sometimes wasteful King 5 - Didnt touch the ball 1st half, barely touched the ball 2nd half. He gets an extra half point if he provided the through ball for that Fryatt chance agfter the best move of the match. It was either him or Oakley Oakley 5.5 - Dreadful first half but improved after the break and played some nice passes Dyer 7.5 - Right back gave him nothing first half, Dyer tore him a new one from 45-75 of the second Fryatt 7.5 - Good link up play and movement. Managed to look quick against colchesters 2 oil tanker centre halves Howard 6.5 - Mixed Bag, held it up well on occasion but lack of mobility/fitness shone through
BedsFox Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Martin 6.5 Little to do, Some suspect kicking distribution as usual Gilbert 7.5 Excellent going forward tonight and not troubled defensively. Often the outlet man in the first half, and is super fit too Tunchev 8 Class, never troubled Hobbs 8 As above, never got close to being troubled Powell 7 Pleasant surprise since he signed. Fit, great positional sense and always quick to feed Dyer, which has to be good Adams 7 Very busy, solid performance. Final ball occasionally lets him down but seems to be settling into the club now King 6 Quiet game, but efficient enough Oakley 5.5 Bit under par I felt. Half a yard off the pace, and had little impact Dyer 8.5 For the first half an hour of the second half he was unstoppable. Cracking run and finish for the goal. Should have set up more goals really given how readily he skinned the full back Fryatt 6.5 One great run from half way, a few half chances. Did his job without inspiring too much Howard 6. A bit off the pace too, but only a great save prevented him from scoring in the top corner by a deflection
hebangsthedrums Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 7's for defence 5's for midfield, except for Lloyd - 7 6 for big Steve & Matty Too tired to explain...

Joe. Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Not any bad performances out there tonight: Martin 6.5 - Kicking improved tonight, especially when under pressure on his left foot. I can't recall him being in action too often, but he controlled the defence well and didn't put a foot wrong. Gilbert 6.5 - Joined in with most of the attacks on the night, and really helped out Nicky Adams who would have struggled up there on his own. Defensively sound also. Tunchev 7.5 - Nothing gets past this man, he's a rock at the heart of this defence. Hobbs 7.5 - Like Tunchev, he was composed and solid today, especially whilst on the ball delivering some excellent passes from the back. Powell 7.5 - Also joined in with his fair share of attacking to help Dyer on the left. I like Powell more everytime I see him play and it's clear to see that his experience really does help the team. Very reassured at the back. Adams 7 - Works hard for the team, you certainly can't fault him for effort. Managed to find the cross on a number of occassions, but sadly once again his corners were lacking. Good performance. Oakley 6.5 - Him and King went about their jobs today professionally, and were always looking to break down and help in the attacks. Steady without being spectacular. King 6.5 - See Oakley. Dyer 8 - Took his goal superbly, it really was a fantastic finish. Beat his man on a number of occassions once again, however one criticism I would give is that he probably didn't pass the ball as much as he should have done. However, I'm not going to fault him on what was once again a MOTM performance. Good job Lloyd. Fryatt 6 - General play was good, and he linked up well with both the midfield and his strike partner Howard. However, his finishing was poor, in particular one incident where he was completely through on goal and decided to hit it straight at the keeper. Howard 6 - Much better than he was Saturday in my opinion, won more in the air, and held the ball up much better. He was always bringing others into play tonight, and it was good to see that.

Yeah, i would agree with your ratings. I thought Oakley and King had a quiet game and King gave the ball away too much when he did have possession. Powell MOTM for me, and he seemed really happy at the end!

syston_fox Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Joe's ratings I'd echo those! Decent away performance and our third win on the trot. A few nervy moments towards the end but we rode the storm and came away with another clean sheet. Still only one goal conceeded away from home in the league this season is pretty impressive considering how other teams appear to leak goals for fun!
