JoeyB Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 How can you tell how bad they are? Basically today i have hurt my knee, dont know how, not twisted it that i can remember but its dead sore. Cant walk properly, hurts when i straighten it, tried running and i cant do that either, or i can but it chuffin kills. It dont hurt when i sit down. Basically all i want to know is how can i tell how serious it is? should i go doctors or leave it for a few days?
Guest Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 Is it swollen? If so, raise it on some cushions, and put an ice pack on it. Is it bruised? Does it feel like it needs to click? Does it hurt if you bend it? Again, elevation and ice. And rest!
Daggers Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 Has Harold Shipman put the fear into people or something - why the hell does no one with an ailment go to the doctor anymore? I'd rather trust a prognosis of any problem I may possess to someone who has undergone 7 years training and then periodical ongoing training rather than a rum collection of online drunks, idiots and spotty kids. * Erm...not including anyone who has placed an opinon so far

Katy Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 I went to the doctor when I 'went over' on my knee about this time last year. He sent me to A&E I'd done my ligs in, I was on crutches and everything. If it's shagged don't be walking on it.

As for doctors, GPs are the ones who aren't good enough to be surgeons and/or consultants, and surgeons and consultants are effectively glorified mechanics!

Vennegoor10 Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 EXactly the same thing happened to me on sunday, collision with the keeper. Basically its called Bursitis of the knee, and you will need anti-inflamitaries (well I got prescribed them) for about a month.

Ibuprofen, oral or topical, will do the trick (as long as you can take them).

Alexikokopops Posted 9 October 2008 Posted 9 October 2008 RICE is essential. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Ibuprofen will help with the swelling. Take paracetamol to try and help the pain, or get prescribed co-codamol and slip into a world of bliss. I've had bad knees for about ten years, they like to dislocate themselves occasionally and then pop back into place. Mmm... codine
Foxhateram Posted 9 October 2008 Posted 9 October 2008 It's like a sunday morning for me this is Well i have been in and out of Football for about 2 years now due to stupid knee injuries. My problem was that i have flat feet, and doing pre-season every year my knee's would always die on me, i would be fine one minute, then the next my knee would just give in. To fix such problems i was given a drain on my knee to get rid of build up of marrow fluid which was due to me being flat footed, and i was also given a 6 months of physio. Physio was crap and hard work, and tbh the best way to get rid of such knee injuris is to RICE stragith after the injury. Then when it gets a lil better do plenty of walking, then build up to jogging, and then do some cycling. Cycling and swimming are amazing ways of re-building knee muscles. i did alot of cycling this summer before pre-season, came to pre-season this year and apart from a few niggles here and there this season so far has gone very well. Basicly to summarise get it checked out, because if you have got what i had and you just leave it. It gets worse and worse.

My knee is partially dislocated, but the operation to repair it could leave me worse off, so I have been told I need to exercise it for the rest of my life to keep it stable. It does occasionally flare up, or move around (like on Sunday whilst playing badminton; the blokes on the court next to us heard the crack! I was more pissed off about the fact I was beating Carl at the time, and couldn't carry on to finish the job), then it's getting the timing right with rest and getting back to exercise!

I hurt my foot playing 5 a side on tuesday and my ear is still giving me pain but cocodamol sorts it all out.

Oh yeah, I concur with this one. We happened to have an excercise bike at home (my dad went through a phase of building a home gym which he ended up using once or twice) so I spent so much time cycling in front of the tv or reading when I was younger Industrial strength codeine is fantastic. My knee is partially dislocated, but the operation to repair it could leave me worse off, so I have been told I need to exercise it for the rest of my life to keep it stable. Mine hasn't done it for a while now, which'll mean it'll probably do it. It does it at innocuous times though. The first time it happened was when I was putting my coat in my locker about ten years ago and it's done it since. Lovely stuff.
