Alexikokopops Posted 14 April 2005 Posted 14 April 2005 We live in a Victorian house, and we wanted to get 3 of our windows replaced, with double glazed windows in a wooden frame, with wooden framey bits inside, and the cheapest quote we got was over £3000 PER WINDOW!! OVER £12000 TO GET 3 WINDOWS REPLACED?? Needless to say we didn't get wooden ones

Matt Posted 15 April 2005 Posted 15 April 2005 I'm currently making a window at college at the moment, I'm guessing its not the same as you want though WOOHOO if the cost of windows is £3000 each now, in a few years when there even less tradesmen about and i'm making windows, I'll be charging whatever I want (within reason) And according to a B-warm serveyor wooden windows are becoming popular again, In a few years everyone will be replacing there UPVC Windows with wooden!

I've got nothing against people going to uni or doing courses in Teaching/Law/Phsycology, e.t.c but do we really need as many as all the people doing learning these subjects? Obviously I ain't no plumber so I couldn't help the example I have gave above but its just an example of what will be happening in a few years time! kenny Posted 15 April 2005 Posted 15 April 2005 Fair play matt, you are doing the right thing, im a civil engineer and the money i earn in the summers is going up and up by the month, construction is the place to be at the moment.

kenny Posted 15 April 2005 Posted 15 April 2005 Im assuming you are only 16/17 so even £4 an hour is good, £8 at 18(ish) is better than most get, but once you have a bit more experience £150 per day is more than feasible, particularly if you can do shuttering work, this sort of work is fairly boring but in high demand.

My grandparents bungalow cost one hell of a lot less to get the windows all re-done, I know that.
Teeno Posted 17 April 2005 Posted 17 April 2005 I've done a spot of Window manufacturing Tis a piece of piss.

WINDOW FITTER (PNE) Posted 5 January 2006 Posted 5 January 2006 ' date='Apr 14 2005, 09:41 PM' post='92951']We live in a Victorian house, and we wanted to get 3 of our windows replaced, with double glazed windows in a wooden frame, with wooden framey bits inside, and the cheapest quote we got was over £3000 PER WINDOW!! OVER £12000 TO GET 3 WINDOWS REPLACED?? Needless to say we didn't get wooden ones I have to say that sounds VERY expensive even for sliding sash windows. Personally I only fit plastic ones as a rule.
Hitesh Posted 5 January 2006 Posted 5 January 2006 yeah, Microsoft are just trying to make more money out of us!

Just thought I'd let you know though.. a lot of your posts about uni students etc and other trades/occupations/careers make you sound a bit like you've got a chip on your shoulder. Still, good luck to you.

Just thought I'd let you know though.. a lot of your posts about uni students etc and other trades/occupations/careers make you sound a bit like you've got a chip on your shoulder. Still, good luck to you. I'd possibly agree with your comment...when you talk about Uni/Students - I don't know why, possibly because I never did any good at school? Possibly because I never get good grades? Possibly because I got the piss took out of me because I was thick at school? I don't know...Possibly it might even be the reason students don't seem to do that much (Prehaps they do, I'm not questioning it, its just a stereotype I hope) yet all these students need to take a year out (<--- Which to be honest I suppose you can't blame them) (** And to those people...look whos laughing now, I may be thick, but most of those people have dropped out of college, working in a dead end job, and i'm earning 2 times what they are and not even on full pay yet ) But i'd disagree when it comes to other trades/occupations/careers.
Alexikokopops Posted 5 January 2006 Author Posted 5 January 2006 Jesus titty **** Christ, where did this ol' chestnut pop up from?
